Chapter 15: Bickering
"I'm really getting sick of how lousy you are at conversation, you know. Otherwise a pleasant trip could be completely ruined if you get stuck traveling with some boring companion." Hidan said as Chiriku groaned in pain.
"Trying to sleep here." I said as my eyes were closed. I gotta tell ya, Chiriku's moaning is really getting on my nerves. "We're not exactly on a vacation here, Hidan." Kakuzu reminded him.
"I've also had enough of searching for Jinchuriki when we don't have a clue where they might be. Put yourself in my position. I've been forced to go alone with all this extra work. A little sympathy would be nice." Hidan complained.
"Just shut up and keep walking. We're late." Kakuzu told him. Something tells me Kakuzu was getting a little annoyed with Hidan's complaining. I really can't blame him because I'm getting fed up with his complaining, too.
"Huh? We're only late because we have to stop at that collection office or whatever it is. For crying out loud, you're making this devious trip even longer. I'm telling you, it's getting really annoying." Hidan said, obviously annoyed.
I opened my eyes when we stopped and saw that Kakuzu had stopped walking. "You should've kept your mouth shut, Hidan." I said, sighing. I closed my eyes again as Kakuzu began to scold Hidan. "This is annoying? This is part of an important mission."
"Whatever. I know you're in charge of making money for the organization. But this bounty, it's a pittens. Barely enough to cover the after party for a tailed beast hunt." Hidan pointed out. I didn't hear anything for a few seconds, so I decided to speak up as my eyes were still closed.
"If we don't get a move on, Leader-sama will wonder what we're doing." I said. I opened one of my eyes as Kakuzu took my advice and continued walking again. "Tch. Hey, wait up. I'm sorry." Hidan apologized as he caught up to Kakuzu.
I closed my eye, trying to go back to sleep. "That guy must be pretty heavy, right? I don't mind carryin' him for ya." Hidan said. "And what do you plan to do with my valuable bounty?" Kakuzu questioned. "What? Hey, I was only trying to be nice here." Hidan said, trying act innocent.
"You plan on getting rid of it, aren't you, Hidan?" I said. "What are you talking about?" Hidan asked. "Don't paly dumb. Nue already found you out. She can see through you. Literally." Kakuzu said. "Literally? What's that supposed to mean, Kakuzu?" I asked as I was now fully awake.
I lifted my chin off of Hidan's shoulder to look at Kakuzu. "Your eyes are glowing purple again." He mentioned. "Huh? Oh, sorry." I said, making my eyes change back to red. Sometimes, my eyes have a tendency to change purple on their own.
I don't know how it happens. It just does. Hidan laughed. "All right, you got me. Let's forget that guy and get to the Jinchuriki." Hidan said as he gave us a closed-eye smile. Kakuzu quickly went to hit Hidan as I grabbed his fist, stopping his attack.
"See that? I finally made ya mad." Hidan said in a creepy voice. I rolled my eyes. "You are so childish." Kakuzu said, angrily. "Quit trying to piss him off, Hidan." I said as Kakuzu withdrew his hand. He began walking again.
"Hey! Come on! What? No fight, then?" Hidan asked. 'It's like this idiot wants to die!' I thought. My eye twitched in annoyance. "I don't have time to spend on your pointless distractions. And besides, after this mission, I'll be sending you to the next world so I won't have to listen to you in this one anymore." Kakuzu said as continued to walk, his back facing us.
"Not that again. Man, I sure hope whoever our next opponent is they have enough fight in him so I can finally let off some steam." Hidan said. "One of these days, you're going to push Kakuzu over his limit." I mentioned out of boredom.
"Oh, don't worry about him. He's not so tough." Hidan said. "You're going to get yourself killed with that mouth of yours." I warned. "Whatever. Let's go." Hidan said as he began to catch up with Kakuzu.
"Which reminds me. Hidan, I've been meaning to ask you something. Why do you kill?" I asked. Hidan just smirked at me. "Well?" I asked. "Let me ask you this, Nue. Do birds wonder why they fly?" Hidan said. I didn't answer as I glanced at him with a bored expression.
"They don't. And the same goes for me." Hidan finished. I stared at him for a moment, trying to take in what he said. "I see." I said, closing my eyes. "What, you going back to sleep on me?" He asked. "Yep." I said. We continued to walk to the collection office in silence.
We stumbled upon a strange building after a half hour of walking. I think it was a restroom. I thought we were going to keep moving, but Kakuzu started walking towards the building without saying a word.
"Huh? Hey, where the hell are you going?" Hidan called to Kakuzu as I got off his back. Kakuzu ignored him as he continued to walk to the building. "Pfft. Bathroom break. I guess could take a piss myself." Hidan said. I handed Hidan his scythe and he began to follow Kakuzu.
"Coming in?" Hidan asked. I shook my head. "I'll wait out here until you guys are finished." I said. I sat down on the steps as they entered the restroom. I gazed up at the sky as the clouds move slowly. I sighed as I closed my eyes.
"I know you're there. Come out." I said. "Wow. I'm impressed you could detect my presence so quickly." My dark twin said as she appeared behind me. I opened my eyes and glanced at her.
"Please. You were there the whole time while Hidan was carrying me. It was hard to sleep with you trying to break free from my body. If you wanted to talk to me, you could've just walked up to me like a normal person." I said.
"Pass." She said, quickly. "Huh?" I looked back at her in confusion. "That guy with the creepy mask was there." She mumbled. "What? You have a problem with Kakuzu's voice or something?" I asked. My twin gave me a 'so what?' pout.
"What about you? I see you're back to your old self. But it did get me thinking why you started caring for these people at... what do you call it? Anatsuki?"
"Akastuki." I corrected her. "Whatever. So, what made you start caring for these fools? They're humans, you know. Well, almost human, if you count that fish guy." She said. "You mean Kisame?" I asked.
"Yeah, him."
"So, what? I like them."
"How come?"
"Because they don't look at me like I'm some kind of freak. Not like the people in that damn Leaf Village."
"I can see your point there. But what about Orochimaru?"
"What about that snake?"
"When are you gonna kill him?"
"Soon. Very soon. What's up with the questions all of a sudden?"
I turned my head to look at her, but she was gone. "She ran." I mumbled to myself with a bored look. I looked at the ground as I saw white birds land in front of me. One of them landed on my shoulder and I looked back at the sky.
"Ah, so you're into animals, huh?" I turned my head to see Hidan coming out of the restroom. "Where's Kakuzu?" I asked. "He's in there counting the money. Turns out the collection office is in there, but it's hidden." Hidan explained as he sat down next to me, causing the bird on my shoulder to fly away.
Hidan began to sniff his cloak. "What are you doing that for?" I asked, curious. "The bathroom in there stinks. Ugh, nasty. Five minutes in that cesspool and the stench has seeped into my clothes." Hidan complained. "I'll say." I said as I held my nose.
I heard someone's footsteps from behind us. "Took you long enough, Kakuzu." Hidan said, annoyed as he glanced back. I looked back as well and saw that it wasn't Kakuzu, but Asuma. "Hang on!" Hidan said as he grabbed my waist and quickly stood up.
Asuma threw shuriken pieces at us and Hidan skillfully wielded his scythe, making the shuriken pieces bounce off the line that was connected to his scythe. He made his scythe slash down on Asuma, in which he dodged it.
I looked to the side and saw Kotetsu and Izumo charging at us with two big swords, preparing to stab us. I vanished out of Hidan's hold and landed just a few feet away. "Hidan, what are you doing? Dodge them!" I called.
But then, I knew exactly why he couldn't move when I saw a long shadow at his feet connected from him to Shikamaru, who was on top of the collection office. "Way too slow." He said, smirking as his hands were in the sign of the Shadow Possesion Jutsu.
Hidan got stabbed by Izumo and Kotetsu, but was unfazed by it. "Ow, that hurts. Who are you people?" Hidan said, barely showing emotion. "They hit your vital spots. It's supposed to hurt." I said. I looked towards Shikamaru and frowned.
"I'm not amused." I mentioned. "You shouldn't be. Long time no see, huh, Nue?" Shikamaru asked. "Too bad this will be the last time we meet." I said as my eyes changed purple.
