Chapter 14: The Two Immortals In Action
Nue's POV
"Dammit. Where are those two?" I asked out loud. I didn't know finding Hidan and Kakuzu would be this hard. "Nue, if you needed help, you should've said something." I heard White Zetsu say. I looked to my side and saw him emerging from the ground.
"Zetsu," I looked at him with a bored expression. "What are you doing here?" I asked. "Leader-sama had a feeling you'd get lost, so he sent us to come help you." He explained. "Is that so?" I asked.
"You'll find Kakuzu and Hidan by the Land of Lightning." Black Zetsu said. "Thanks." I said, quickly before running towards the Land of Lightning. When I got to them, I saw a building that was completely knocked down to the ground.
"What the hell happened here?" I mumbled. "It's been thirty minutes. Aren't you done yet?" I looked ahead to see Kakuzu sitting on a stone and Hidan lying on his back with a spike impaled through his chest.
"Does it really take you thirty minutes to do your ritual?" I asked, bluntly as I walked over to them. "Would you two shut up?! You're interrupting the ritual!" Hidan said, annoyed. I sighed.
"Are you guys going to capture another Jinchuriki after this?" I asked Kakuzu as I sat down next to him. "The Land of Fire is next." He said as he looked at a map. "By the way, how the hell did you find us? Another one of your abilities?" Hidan asked.
I watched him take the spike out of his chest. "Zetsu helped me out." I told him. Zetsu popped out of the ground to tell us to stop dilly dallying and get to work. "How is it that one half of you is nice and the other half of you is... rude?" I asked.
"You mean like you?" Black Zetsu said. I frowned at him. "Shut up." I mumbled."Let's go. We have work to do." He said. "Leave the Jinchuriki to us." White Zetsu said. I nodded and began to follow Kakuzu.
"How much further is this place?" Hidan asked. "We're almost there." Kakuzu replied. "Just be patient, Hidan." I said. "He's keeps saying we're almost there, but..." Hidan groaned when he saw more stairs.
"You're kidding. More climbing?! This better be a Jinchuriki at the end of this. Because if it's not, I'll get mad and you know what happens when I get..."
"I don't give a damn what happens!" Kakuzu snapped. "And if you don't stop whining like a spoiled brat... I'll kill you." He finished. "Oh, come on. What's that about? You tryin' to scare me or what?" Hidan said. "Hidan, I think it's best if you don't push Kakuzu over the edge." I advised.
"Tch. You're really an anti-social jerk, you know that?" Hidan said as we continued to walk forward. After a while, I began to slow down. "Hmm? What's wrong with you?" Hidan asked me as he stopped walking.
Kakuzu stopped as well, turning to look at me. "Nothing. I'm just... a little tired." I admitted. I shook my head, trying to stay awake. "I think I can keep going for a little bit longer." I said. Hidan sighed. "Why did the Leader make you come with us when this is the time of day when you sleep?" He said.
"Orders are orders, Hidan." I said, covering my mouth with a yawn. He sighed again before thrusting his scythe into the ground. I raised a brow at him. "What are you doing?" I asked. He responded by piking me up and putting my on his back as his arms held under my legs to keep me from falling.
"Hold my scythe, will ya?" Hidan requested. "Okay." I said with a tired yawn. I picked up the handle of his scythe and used my wings and tails to hold his weapon. My arms wrapped around his neck as we started walking again.
I fell asleep on Hidan's back while my chin rested on his shoulder. After a while, I woke up when I heard a crash. I lifted my head off Hidan's shoulder and yawned slightly. "These guys don't look like they convert to the Way of Jashin. Nope, no converts here." Hidan said.
"Converts?" I repeated with a yawn as Hidan walked forward while he was still carrying me on his back. "Where are we?" I asked. "We're at the Fire Temple." Kakuzu informed. "Those robes. There's no doubt these guys are from the Akatsuki." I heard a monk say.
I sighed. This is definitely not a Jinchuriki hunt. It's a bounty hunt. I glanced ahead as I saw a monk step forward. He actually looks familiar. I've looked in Kakuzu's bingo book a few times while he was sleeping and I've seen this monk's picture.
"Hey, Kakuzu. How much is this monk worth?" I asked. "$30 million." He answered. "That's a lot of money." I said as I stared at the monk. "Hey, we're not doing this for the bounty, are we? Because that's a one way ticket to damnation, my friend." Hidan told Kakuzu.
"Well, after all, they say that money talks wherever you go." Kakuzu said. "I've never heard of that." I mentioned. "It's an expression, kid." Hidan informed me. "Hidan, I'll be turning seventeen soon. Could you stop calling me kid?" I asked, a little annoyed.
"Afraid not." He smirked. I sighed. "I don't know what your business is here, but turn around and keep moving." The monk spoke. "The monk's name is Chiriku. He's some kind of guardian shinobi, judging by his appearance." I informed Kakuzu as I got off Hidan's back, handing him his scythe.
I sat down on the ground, covering my mouth with a yawn. "You're gonna kill us without a cause, is that it? Charming. However, that's not one of my beliefs." Hidan said to the monk as he lifted his scythe.
"This fire temple is the most famous shinobi temple in the Land of Fire. They say all its monks wield a special power known as the Gift of the Sages. Especially this one worth thirty million." Kakuzu explained as he informed that the monk was once an elite ninja who protected the Land of Fire.
"Really? A guardian shinobi, huh?" Hidan said. "Take care, Hidan. Or you'll die." Kakuzu warned. "Gimme a break. Not that again! Shut up, Kakuzu! Move it!" Hidan yelled as the two immortals charged at Chiriku.
"Stay put, Nue!" Hidan ordered. I was already sitting down, so I just gave a nod. I've always wanted to see how these two fought. Maybe like a horse and its rider. Chiriku put his hands in a meditation position and I saw some kind of Buddhist statue behind him.
"What is that?" I murmured. Kakuzu went to throw a punch to Chiriku's face, but instead, he got hit by huge fists, multiple times. Kakuzu landed on his back and then, Hidan took a shot at it. But he got the same treatment that Kakuzu received. I blinked my eyes, unamused.
"Yes! Lord Chiriku did it!" The monks cheered. I sighed and stood too my feet before walking over to my superiors. "There's still one more. But... there's something different about her. I heard the monks say. I rolled my eyes.
"Idiotic humans. I suggest you don't attack me if you know what's good for you," I warned the monks as I walked over to my superiors. "Are you sure you don't want my help?" I asked Hidan as I put my hands on my knees.
He groaned and muttered, "Shut your mouth, Nue." I chuckled at his behavior. "You know... since this guy isn't a Jinchuriki, you might be able to obey your Lord's commandments." I said.
"Can I do that?"
"Yeah, I think so. But I think you might want to check in with Kakuzu before you do anything,"
I looked over at Kakuzu. "Is it alright, Kakuzu?" I asked him. "He can do what he likes but remember; his head is worth $30 million to me. I want him recognizable." Kakuzu said. I grabbed under Hidan's arm and helped him to his feet.
"Trading a human being's life for money. That's no way for people to behave. Disgusting! Just stay out of it, Kakuzu! Leave this one to me!" He said as he charged at Chiriku. I don't know why he's so angry. Come to think of it, he sometimes always angry.
About a while later, the whole temple was demolished. "Your justsu... it's a bit terrifying." I mentioned in an emotionless tone. I lied on the ground, on my stomach, as I watched a trail of ants go inside a dirt hole.
I turned on my back and closed my eyes, still feeling a bit sleepy. "Looks like there weren't any Jinchuriki hosts here after all. When I'm done with my prayers, let's move onto our next thing." Hidan informed. "No." Kakuzu said. "No?" I repeated, my eyes still closed.
Kakuzu walked over to Chiriku's body and picked up his body by the back of his robe collar. "I'm taking his body to the collection office. Money comes first." He said. I sat up and opened my eyes while stretching before looking at Kakuzu. "Let's go." He said.
"What about Hidan? He's not done with his prayers yet." I said as I sat up. "Come, Nue." Kakuzu ordered. I sighed and followed him since their was no point in arguing with him. "Hey, will you two wait for me? Hey!" Hidan called after us.
I continued to follow Kakuzu as Hidan caught up with us. "Hidan, I'm still tired. Will you carry me?" I asked. "You're still tired?" He asked. "Yes. You know I'm nocturnal. Why are you acting like this is all new to you?" I asked, bluntly.
He sighed and said, "All right, fine." I held Hidan's scythe with my wings and tails again and he carried me on his back. "Oh, I forgot to mention. While you guys were at the Cloud Village, did you happen to meet a witch doctor?" I asked.
"No, why do you ask?" Hidan said. "I was just wondering." I admitted before resting my chin on his shoulder.
