6 - The Dream

She couldn't stand it , she couldn't stop the tears anymore. People passed by, some looking her way concerned but moving on and others ignoring and walking past. She stood there in the middle with the phone in her hand. The teardrops met with the phone screen.

The three dots moving and the message comes and the phone tings as if trying to make her remember of the reality that she had come to loathe. She hurriedly typed a reply, a reply not matching those tears. A quick sigh and wiping the tears, she looked up at the sky with a fading hue of color orange.

She wanted to scream and yell and cry ugly and just not be so silent anymore. Her own silence scared her, it felt deafening and louder than anything. She grew quiet and the chatter and the footsteps couldn't be heard anymore as if she was not in the middle of the street but at an unknown place filled with silence.

She looked up confused feeling everything change around her, the ground slipping away from her and the sky disappear like a screen pulled up. She felt as if she was being carried away somewhere, floating in the air.  She finally landed down and put her feet down to the solid ground.

She looked all around her and could only see black and strangely it wasn't dark. Again everything changed, The sky reappeared but it was too sunny, the crops in the field tickled her and towered over her. She was lost in the center of that maze.

She was suffocating, she ran looking for a way out cutting herself and stumbling but didn't stop. She turned around a corner and fell, trying to get up there she sees herself sitting in the room with earphones listening to the silly voice messages and laughing.

She tried to shout, telling herself to stop but no voice came out as if the maze had taken away her voice. She quickly stood up trying to enter the past but it faded away, there was nothing and she tried to grasp at it but couldn't do anything.

She ran again, she pushed herself through the narrow pathways and it was a dead end but again like before she could see herself. She could see herself happy spending time and giving the gifts and her heart. Scared, she stumbled back, trying to escape.

Every dead end and the corner she passed she saw herself, worried and bringing the food, talking to comfort and help, waiting for the reply, messaging excessively to get that one reply, writing letters in the middle of the night to give them, crying but still laughing at the messages and changing herself.

No matter how much she ran she couldn't find the exit and ran in circles passing by the memories over and over again. Her head hurt, she touched it just to see blood on her hands. She was bleeding and her body hurt all over and she could barely walk.

Again everything changed, the towering maze of field disappeared. She saw she was in an open ground spread infinitely and the grass felt cool to her bare and tired feet and she saw her. Standing, confused and panicked.

She limped her way there. Eyes met eyes, one pair full of tears and another full of confusion.

"Where am I?", She noticed she was in white tee tucked in with light blue jeans and black boots looking pretty with no effort.

"Where am I, D?", She just stared clutching onto her sides which hurt a lot wondering why isn't she concerned about her and how she was hurt.

"I don't know.", She croaked out, her throat dry and hurting.

"Then what is going on? What is all this?"

"I don't know."

They both stood in silence staring the other and she couldn't take it anymore. She was angry and frustrated. She moved forward getting closer to her and asked her

"Why are you not asking me if I am okay, I am bleeding."

"I dunno, this is a dream, I will wake up."

"Is that the only reason? Why not just say it that you don't care?", Her throat hurt but she wanted to say it all, she wanted to shout and yell and tell her to just stop this, what she was doing to her. There was no reply to her question. She spoke again.

"I am hurting because of your selfishness. You only text me when you are alone and sad when everyone is busy and turned their backs on you, knowing I will give you the attention you want and try to comfort you and make you feel better when no one else is there. Always just using me when you get hurt or get ignored. Running after those who don't even care about you and then come back to me again and then leave me alone hurting when you are done. Feeling guilty for others just to make yourself feel better. I am always your last option. I know you are hurting and going through things but please just see how cruel you are being to me, just-"

She couldn't speak any further and broke down, collapsing under the weight of it all. She was tired of always being the one to be there for people, tired of being like this, tired of everything.

She heard her muffled voice but she was too tired and she was hurting all over and her vision blurred, she allowed herself to let it go and just sleep. She looked at the sky, it was back to the pretty orange it was before.

Sirens blared and the people gathered around the lying body with the blood pooling around it. The driver panicking and trying to save her.

She opened her eyes to see all white. She looked around to find herself in the hospital room. Her hand felt warm and it was her sitting beside her looking at her strangely. She wondered

"Was this the dream or was it the one before?".
