Chapter Five

Casey walked outside, his fourth period class having just been dismissed to go to lunch. He wasn't headed towards the cafeteria though, he was headed towards the roof of the school, where he wanted have to feel the eyes on him when a group of students walked by. It was as if he could hear their thoughts, all exhibited when they looked in his direction. Has he walked up the stairs, he recalled all of the periods he had been in: Choir, English, Science, Pottery, each and every single one of them being the exact same as the last, just a drone-on fest. The teachers were robotic and every single way, he used to believe when he was a kid that at the end of they day, they all went into a box and powered down, only to be turned back on the next day. The sad part was that he learned that they actually did have a life, but not a very fun one.  Their schedule was: coffee, school, strip club, vodka, and even more coffee. It was very repetitive, and it only changed his they had a family, but even then, their wasn't a very big difference. All the students were the same too, but only slightly different. They all just partied, neglected their homework, and had sex. Of course, if they were good students, they did has they were told, but even then, they all managed to get dragged into the partying and endless sex. As he approached the door leading out to roof, he noticed it was raining, again.

Washington was on a strict schedule of rain and then some, and it wasn't even spring yet.

He pulled open the door, only to be meet with a gust of rain carried by the wind. He put his bag by the door, to keep it from locking him out and stuck on the roof. He went and walked towards the edge, sitting down on the edge. He didn't have a fear of heights. He wasn't paying attention to how high up they were, just the city and the drizzling rain, falling from the sky in soft pellets. The world was a dreary grey color, but to him, it was like his home away from home. He looked down at the street below, seeing people run out of the building, hopping into their cars, driving away, screaming and hollowing out into the atmosphere. They were insane, but they were the fun insane, the kind that was envied by everyone, even him. It made him not want to be alone, but, what could he do?

He couldn't exactly take the loneliness away that easily.

It wasn't a uncomfortable burden, besides, he had gotten used to it by now. It made him feel somewhat their, because it was better then nothing. While everyone was living their lives to the fullest, was it a crime that he had no issue with being alone? The rain, music and the burden of being alone were his company, and he doesn't think it can get any better then that.

Then he felt a tap on his shoulder.

A soft one, but it was there.

He turned around, only to be greeted with the most beautiful pair of violet-brown mixture colored eyes. They belonged to a tall, brunet male, their eyes clouded with unshed tears and full of sadness. He was wearing a grey skinny jeans, with a long sleeve, black sweater hoodie. His brown hair was in wavy curls, not very long, but long enough for him to comb his finger through. He was sporting a pair of Nike's, but not flashy ones like all the other rich kids. Just a normal pair, a black pair. He was looking down, for an instant, but he then looked up as soon as he realized that Casey had turned around.

"Is it okay if I sit with you?"

His voice was deep, but at the same time, it wasn't. He could tell that he was trying to hold back the tears in his eyes, his voice sounding choked and forced. Like it was hard for the words to come out of his mouth.

"Yeah...go ahead" Casey replied, before turning back around to look out at the city again.

"Thanks..." the voice replied, then presumably sitting next to Casey. Casey wasn't used to having someone to sit with, it truly had been a long time since he interacted with anyone. His voice sounded like it hadn't been used in a long time, especially in normal conversation. He only spoke when he was singing, or when he was being called on by the try-hard teachers. They were the ones that cared about their job, and you could tell they used to be one of the good kids he regularly saw in class. But, his thought process was interrupted when the new person beside him spoke up, again.

"...What's your name?" they asked.

This is new.

"...my name is Casey. What about you?" he replied.

"My name is Andrew. How old are you?" Andrew said, questioning him.

"...I'm 16, what about you?" he replied, not sure what exactly was happening.

"I'm 16 too! I didn't think I would find anyone up here, on the roof to be exact" Andrew said, looking over at Casey.

Casey was frankly, surprised. This is his longest conversation he has had since he last talked to his parents when they moved here. It was so strange, and he could feel his mind being filled with new things and thought, feeling as well. He didn't know whether to look over, or to continue staring into the distance. He was unsure on whether he should reply or not.

He decided to, since he thought it was at least polite to do so.

"I didn't think anyone would come up here, I'm usually alone up here" he replied.

"That sucks, I wouldn't want to be alone, at least not for very long" he said, moving his hands in a grand gesture.

"I've just gotten used to it..." Casey murmured quietly, more to himself then anything.

An awkward silence settled over them, both unsure about what to say, since they had recently just met each other. Casey could feel it, and he had a feeling that he had caused it.

"...Um, what's your favorite song?" Casey said, trying to salvage to conversation before it was lost to the wind and rain.

"Oh man, I have so many, but my favorite as to be Hallelujah by Panic! At the Disco" he said, a small smile on his face, sheepishly looking down at the ground, just beyond to ledge.

Casey turned to him, gasping, he just couldn't believe it. Not many people at school liked P!ATD, he being one of the few. Even his old friends, didn't like Panic! At the Disco. Everyone liked Pop, and hip-hop. It was always pitiful to watch all of the popular guy at school rap, and sing. They butchered every lyric and it just made him cringe. All the girls acted like hoes, twerking to the pop songs, even if they were slow and sad. He always watched in embarrassment, and amazement, he couldn't figure out how they manged to get their butts to move that rapidly.

That was exactly why he stopped going to homecoming, for that exact reason...and then some.

He decided to do something daring, and it was something he never thought he would do randomly. At least not again, in front of someone he just met. He moved away, and got up from the ledge, slowly, but deliberately.

Then he stood up and started dancing and singing "Hallelujah" by Panic! At the Disco.

"All you sinners stand up, sing Hallelujah!

Show praise with your body!

Stand up, sing Hallelujah!"  he sang loudly, his arms out, while he twirled in a circle.

He saw a smile spread on Andrews face, his eye crinkling up, and he wiped his eyes, clearing the tears away from eyes. He got up from the ledge, and turned towards Casey, a smile still gracing his face.

Then he too, started to sing and dance, but with Casey.

"And if you can't stop shaking, lean back

Let it move right through ya!"

Casey looked over at Andrew, and the first time in a while, he smiled...

"Say your prayers!

Say your prayers!

Say your prayers!"  they both sang together, loudly, and even though they had just met, they were both having the best time ever.

And Casey...

...he was happy.
