Jane

The happiness that my niece's birth had brought me remained as I ran down London's streets with a large grin plastered across my face; I was so excited that I almost missed my turn to reach Jack's street. When I finally reached his door, Jack was standing with his arms crossed in the doorway. I stopped for a moment to admire him - strong arms, his hair was messed up, his clothes were full of holes. He was Jack Hammond. I watched from the side of the street as he took a few steps into the road and looked towards the other end of the street; seeing my opportunity I quietly ran up behind him and embraced him. Turning in my arms he looked down at me and pulled me closer to him.

The two of us entered his small home and I sat myself in the kitchen; as he made a fresh pot of tea I told him everything that had happened in the past twenty four hours. When I finally told him about little Mary he was just as happy as I was and it was then that we decided to tell Elizabeth that I had been seeing Jack. Before we left we ventured down into James' office to tell him of our news. He was nowhere to be seen...

Looking around I  saw many things - some frightening, some intriguing and some truly shocking. Seeing an open bag on the table I discreetly looked under the folds without having to touch anything at all; what I saw caused me to stumble backwards in fright and disgust. Seeing me fall onto James' stack of newspapers Jack hurried to my side and asked me what I had seen - I could not speak. Instead he invited himself to poke through his brother's satchel on the table and he too stumbled backwards with a slight cry of terror. The open bag then spilled out over the table presenting us with the dismembered remains of the Hangman's victims...only they were the missing remains that had been taken before the Hangman abandoned his victims in the streets.

Trying to find my footing again after the terror in which I had witnessed I noticed that all of Jame's papers featured the Hangman as the headline; and then I saw it...It lay there staring me in the face from beneath a red trench coat. I saw it in all it's blood stained glory and stood frozen in time as it mocked me with it's pride.

There beneath the red coat was nothing more than the Hangman's notorious noose...
