♛ Chapter Two ♛
Soon, they came up to a small jet plane that had the words CHEONG AIRLINER written on the side. The staircase was down, seemingly all ready to take flight when boarded.
Cooper furrowed his brow at the plane before him. "Cheong Airliner? Isn't that Duke Jae and Duchess Nari Cheong's private airliner company?" He asked, pulling his eyes away from the shiny airliner and turning towards his mother.
Daniel stood beside his brother and used his hand to shield his eyes from the sun bouncing off the plane. "That's more like Kwan's personal airliner." He pointed out, furrowing his brows.
Natalia looked at her children and ignored Cooper's question, pointing at the plane. "Get inside the plane now." She demanded this time, and her kids obeyed her command.
Cooper went in first, followed by Daniel, then Brian, then Allison, Viviane, Natalia and lastly Vincent, who closed the door.
Cooper looked around with wide eyes at the luxurious interior of the plane. "Wow, this thing is loaded." He whistled, running his hand on the fix of leather and wood. "It's decked out with everything."
His eyes landed on a certain someone, a young boy who was stretching his arms over his short black hair with bright brown eyes. "Kwan?" He exclaimed with wide eyes and a quizzical look on his face.
Kwan perked up at the voice of his friend. "Coop!" He stood up and set his fruit punch juice box down in the cup holder, then walked over to his best friend. "Welcome aboard my private jet! I was worried for a bit there when you still hadn't come, I thought the worst had happened." He gave a dramatic sigh, but with a lopsided grin.
Cooper chuckled, walking up to him and giving a hug to his friend. "What are you doing here? Why are we on your jet?" He asked, pulling away with shining eyes.
Kwan smiled looking at his friend and patting his pat. "Well, my fine mate," He motioned to Natalia and Vincent, who in return nodded to him. "It's not my story to tell, as much as I would like to."
Alison sat down on the couch inside the plane, looking around with a smile, taking off her shoes. "These seats are so comfy and soft." She mused laying on her back and reclining, putting her feet up on the footrest that popped out. "I could sleep on these."
Daniel looked around with wide eyes and a smile on his lips. "First time on a plane? How sweet is that!?" He exclaimed as he went over to it and sat down in it. "Wow," He popped out the foot and tipped it back, closing his eyes. "This is the life!"
Viviane sat down on the other side of the couch, across from her sister, and crossed her legs. "This is nice, and cozy honestly," She said, turning around and looking out the window. "Never in a million years did I think I'd be on a plane!"
Brian rushed over and fell on his knees, opening it up. "It's a mini-fridge!" He looked at everything that was in there and pulled out a bottle of water and a package of chips, salsa, and queso. "Amazing! I have never seen this before! I never knew it came in a package."
Kwan chuckled with a nod, looking over at Brian. "They are very common where we are going, so don't act surprised if you see them again." He told him, flashing a smile.
Brian looked over at him and tilted his head to the side. 'Common where we are going?' He thought, his brows furrowing. "What do you mean, Kwan?"
Kwan gave a cheeky smiled and chuckled. "That's for me to know and you to find out," He joked, opening up another juice box. "Just sit back and enjoy flying in luxury."
"Time to take off. Everyone must be sitting down and buckle your seatbelts." The pilot spoke through the intercom, and soon enough, they were high in the sky, leaving their beloved kingdom behind after the suitcases were loaded up and stored in cargo.
Cooper turned to his parents after everyone got situated now they were in the air. "Now, tell us what is going on? I think we have enough privacy for that." He asked, earning a look from his siblings.
Natalia sighed softly, twisting her ring around her finger. "There isn't an easy way to say this and you aren't young children anymore." She paused for a moment, taking a deep breath. "The truth is, we were delivered the news that someone wants to kill us and take over the throne, again." She replied, feeling a bit of deja vu.
There was an uncomfortable silence that shrouded the occupants in the plane.
Allison just blinked at what her mother had just said. 'Did I hear her right? Does someone want to kill us?' She shook her head, pushing away the knot forming in her stomach. 'But we're well liked by the whole kingdom, why would anyone want us dead?'
Brian was stunned, he had to do a double-take to what his mother had said as he thought. 'She did say someone was trying to kill us? Who would want to kill kids, let alone our parents who did nothing wrong?'
Cooper sighed, casting a sad frown at the ground as he heard his mother's words. 'I was right, after all, someone does want to kill us. I thought it was just me, but why my whole family? Unless someone wants the throne and to have that . . . we must all die.' He thought, looking down at his lap.
Daniel sighed, rubbing his temples as he heard the word's from his mother's mouth. 'Someone wants us dead. Why all of us? It doesn't make sense, unless they want our whole lineage erased . . . Who would think it'd be okay to kill a whole family including children? Someone very sick in the head.' He thought, his stomach-churning.
Viviane sighed a long and heavy sigh, slumping down in the chair. 'I feel sick knowing someone wants us dead. That someone wanted to kill us and end their lives? How could someone be so cruel?' She thought as she closed her eyes and took deep breaths, trying not to get woozy over just the thought.
Allison just blinked at what her mother had just said. "Mum, you're joking right?" She asked, her stack churning with each passing moment. "No one wants us dead, right?W-who would want us dead? W-we haven't done anything wrong?"
Viviane closed her eyes and took deep breaths, trying not to get woozy over just the thought. "Please tell me your jesting? Because this is not the least bit funny." She begged, her eyes teary and pleading.
Natalia shook her head, sadly casting a glance to the floor then back at her daughter. "I wish I could say I'm morbidly jesting, but I can't. I'm sorry, it's true, as true as I sit here before you." Her voice held sadness and a bit of pain since.
Vincent rested a hand on top of his wife's folded hands on her lap. "Your mum is right. That is why we have to leave the kingdom - the whole country to be safe. We don't know who we can trust, especially since there had already been an attempt before." He hated his own words, no matter how true they were.
"Are - are you sure we are going to be safe?" Viviane stammered, twisting the ruffles on her skirt. "Who all knows where we're going? Who is going to tell us when it's okay to return? Will we ever return?"
Vincent exchanged looks with Natalia, having a silent conversation with just their eyes. "Duchess Nari and Duke Jae, know, they're helping us. They're our eyes and ears while we are way, we trust them with our lives."
Viviane felt a bit better that it was Kwan's parents, they were trustworthy people and honest. "What about our pilot? Can he be trusted?" She asked, her voice turning hushed.
A tiny smile nudged the corner of Natalia's cheek. "Yes, the pilot has sworn to not say a word or even return to Amaryllis until we are ready and the threat has been neutralized. He's quite trustworthy since he's a friend of Kwan's and not from Amaryllis."
Viviane sighed, feeling a invisible burden lifting off her shoulders. "That's good to know. We don't have a lot of people we can trust, do we?" She asked, earning silence from her mother which told her all she needed to know.
Brian frowned and crossed her arms, slouching in his chair. "But Dad, isn't that being cowardly? Shouldn't we take on the threat head-on? Fleeing for our lives is cowardly, isn't it?" He hesitantly asked after some internal conflict.
Vincent sighed at his son's words and shook his head. "This threat isn't one we can handle and take on head first. We had a close call last week when someone tried to poison your mother's tea, thankfully it was caught before she could take a sip."
Everyone's jaws went slack, especially Viviane. "And you failed to tell us why? You almost died! You could have died! You should have told us because I've been doing late night snacks in the pantry!" She exclaimed, feeling sick once again.
Natalia rubbed her arm, regretting not telling them sooner. "I - we just didn't want to worry you over adult issues. Looking back, it affects you just as much as us, I should have told you, I'm sorry." She looked dow. at her lap, her gaze turning upset.
Viviane's expression softened, realizing her mum only had good intentions. "It's okay, we probably would have freak out and not been able to keep things a secret." She side-eyed Allison, who scowled in return.
"I can keep a secret you know," Allison snapped at her sister, crossing her arms over her chest. 'Who does she think she is to imply such things about me?' She thought to herself with a internal huff.
"Duchess Nari and Duke Jae were the ones who warned us. That is the emergency meeting we were in." Vincent added, squeezing his wife's hand tightly.
Daniel pursed his lips as he mulled over his father's words. "The kingdom is safe, there is no threat towards it, right?" He asked, tapping his fingers on the armrest.
"There are no threats to the kingdom." Natalia chewed her lip out of nervousness. "We have no idea who we can trust and this is bigger than we have ever thought. We have to get away. It's safer for us all."
Cooper pursed his lips as he listened to what his parents said. "I understand. I know the first time an attempt was made was towards me, hence why you sent me to live as a commoner in the township until I was thirteen."
Natalia averted her gaze to her lap, spinning her ring around her finger. 'Why do I still feel guilty about sending him off to live as a commoner with mercenaries masked as farmers until he was thirteen because of a similar threat? I did it to protect him . . .' Her thoughts trailed off into a sharp pain in her chest.
Vincent spoke up, seeing how his wife had fallen deep into thought. "We know this will be a difficult change for you, so we hope you can bear with us and we will get through it together." His voice became kind as he could see the worry on his children's faces.
Natalia took a deep breath, pushing her hair behind her ear. "You are not allowed to use any of the social media you used here. Make an excuse why you can't be on, so no one suspects anything. You will be given new phones to use for communication only."
Allison gasped, her hand flying against her chest. "No! That means I can't use social media! I can't interact with my followers, chat with them, and take selfies?" She cried out in horror, lacing her fingers in her hair.
Natalia frowned, feeling a little disappointed in her youngest daughter's reaction. "You'll be fine. Perhaps it will be a learning experience for you." She suggested, earning a huff from Allison.
Kwan threw his juice box in the trash beside him. "Oh, before I forget: your surname is no longer Van Persie but Cunningham."
Allison frowned, feeling even more rotten than she already was. "Are you serious? Cunningham? Out of all surnames, did you choose that one? Why not something cool like Dexter? Webb? Stonebridge?" She glared at Kwan, crossing her arms over her chest.
Kwan shrugged his shoulders as he sat down. "Well, it's your new alias now so you will have to deal with it. I think it sounds cool!" He grinned, pretty proud of himself.
Viviane thought about the good that could come out of this. "Will we have to go to school? Like a public one? Like the ones in the teen flicks I watch? Where do you have lockers and a cafeteria with mystery meat?" She asked, a little curious.
Vincent raised an eyebrow but nodded nonetheless. "Yes. The best way is for you to finish the school year as exchange students, which took a while to make happen."
Natalia could feel the air surrounding them lighten up the more the conversation rolled on. "We're sorry that it had to come to this for us to leave. I know it is hard on all of us, but we hope it is for only a small amount of time."
"Mum, a threat like this doesn't go away in a few days or weeks." Viviane softly said, sitting up and putting her feet up on the little cushion that was in front of her part of the couch.
Brian smiled, he was surprisingly excited about this. "Vivi, we don't have any royal duties!" He leaned over and placed his hand on her shoulder, shaking her gently.
Vivane pushed his hand off her shoulder and rested her elbow on the armrest. "That does sound nice," She perked up, resting her cheek in her palm.
Daniel picked up a book, about to read it, then a thought popped in his head. "Wait a moment, you told us we were going far away but you never said where," He pointed out, setting the book down on his armrest.
"Oh, I suppose we didn't." Natalia said, mentally scolding herself for forgetting. "We are going to New York. It's far away from Amaryllis and it's a very dense populated place no one will find us."
Allison's eyes grew wide and shot up from her spot. "New York? NEW YORK CITY? THE BIG APPLE?" She squealed in delight, clapping her hands. "I can't believe we are living in New York! I've seen it on tv and in movies so much, a majority of my favorite shows take place there!" She squealed, jumping up and down.
Daniel did feel better knowing where they would be staying. "That's a safe opinion. If we chose a smaller city it would be easier to find us, but a big city like that, safe."
Vincent chuckles at how excited his daughter was and how interested his other children were. "Yes, but, Riverdale, a borough in Bronx, New York. An old family friend lives there in one of the houses we will be staying in while they are away. They hardly use it anyways, considering they travel a lot, much like Kwan here."
Kwan frowned as he tossed his empty juice box into the trash bin. "Wait . . . you make it sound like traveling is a bad thing? Yes, I do travel all over the world, but a portion of my time I spend most of the time in Korea with my grandparents." His eyes had a glimmer as he spoke about Korea.
Daniel took note of how his accent sounded slightly Amaryllian and partly Korean, especially with certain words, so it sometimes was hard to believe he wasn't a native. "It's hard to believe you were born in Korea and lived there for six years before moving to Amaryllis."
Kwan nodded, putting up the recliner and leaning back, crossing his ankles. "My mom and Natalia were penpals when they were children and met in their teenage years. She always loved it in Amaryllis and wanted to move there one way." He explained, lancing his fingers together and placing them behind his head.
Natalia smiled as she thought back to those days. "Oh, that brings up fond memories. I was so nervous and Nari was just as nervous as I was when we met the first time. I'm glad she stayed friends all these years."
Kwan loved hearing stories of his mother when she was young with Natalia. "She still has the photos of our time together, although she won't tell me where they are because she's a bit embarrassed by her short haircut." He chuckled at the memory.
Natalia softly laughed, shaking her head at the thought. "She was thrilled to get her camera and spend much money on film. I'll have to get her to take them out of hiding and show you them."
"Well," Allison rolled her eyes and grabbed some headphones off the table in front of her. "I'm going to watch a movie." She informed her family, putting them over her ears, and grabbed the remote, playing a random movie.
Kwan looked around at the others as they began to do their own things. "It's going to be a long flight." He mused with a smile, turning his head and looking out the window.

A/N:
This was the last half of the previous chapter. I am dividing the first four chapters so forgive me if things are messy.
Chapter Talk:
I must say, this new style is better suited for me and less tasking to handle and especially edit. Keeping chapters short makes things easier for me and that is why I've been spending my time editing all my books rather than write some new chapter, which you will eventually get.
Thanks for reading!
