♛ Chapter Six ♛
Brian looked out the windows after three days of flying, expecting to see vast land or blue ocean. His eyes widened as he saw a private airport come into view. "Look! I see the landing strip!" He pointed out, turning to look at the rest of his family before looking back out.
Viviane strained her neck, trying to look put the window that her twin was blocking. "We're in New York!" She squealed, bouncing a little in her seat, mostly restricted by the seatbelts. "Brian what does it look like?"
Brian's eyes swept the scene before him and turned towards his sister. "Um, like a rural private airport." He replied, looking back out the window. "I can't see the Big Apple from here though, trees are obstructing my view." He frowned, sitting back and sighing.
Alison rushed over beside her brother and looked down as well. "Ooh, that means we are ready to land and then go to this mansion!" She squealed so happily, finally getting off this plane and out on the ground.
Viviane walked over to her two siblings looking out the window. "Do we have to go there in a horse and carriage?" She asked, walking back over and getting back in her seat, followed by her siblings.
Vincent chuckled softly, setting down his empty cup into the cup holder. "No Vivi, they don't use horses and carriages here. We will be driving in an van since it's big enough for all of us." He clarified, a smile growing on his face.
Viviane furrowed her eyebrows at his words. "Oh, that makes sense, but how are you going to be driving? Don't you have to have a license?" She asked, smoothing down her skirt.
"I will be driving you!" Kwan piped up, pulling out his driver's licenses from his pocket. "I've got citizenship here in the America so I get one of these little babies." He flashed it to everyone for them to see.
"You're so lucky, Kwan." Allison put her hands in front of her but then grabbed her luggage. "You have citizenship in America and in Korea, and in Amaryllis, it's so unfair."
Kwan put away his license and shrugged his shoulders. "It was a long process but its worth it since I spend most of my time here in America and back in Korea." He replied, reaching up in the overhead compartment, grabbing his duffle bag out.
Cooper titled his head to the side and furrowed his brows. "How come you never told me any of that?" He asked, gently nudging his friend beside him in the arm.
"Because," Kwan began, shifting in his seat and crossing his legs. "I don't like to sound like I'm bragging. It also never came up in our conversations." He replied, casually shrugging his shoulders.
Cooper nodded, not denying that was true. "Maybe I should start asking the deep, philosophical questions," He lightly joked, seeing Kwan hold in a laugh.
"Don't get too philosophical on me." Kwan shook his head, leaning his head back on the headrest and then sighed. "In settings like these you learn a lot about a person's true character."
Natalia turned her head towards Kwan and Cooper the moment those words left the black-haired boy's lips. "It shouldn't be a problem for Cooper and your father, but for the rest of us it will be a little difficult to fit in."
Viviane stretching her arms over her head and
"Let's get going," Vincent walked over to the door now that it was opened, turning back to his family and Kwan. "Ladies first then the gentlemen." He waited for his wife and daughters to go out before letting his kids and Kwan go out.
Alison put on her sunglasses as she went down the stairs. She handed off her luggage to a guy who set it on the cart. "Ah, fresh air, this is more like it." She took a deep breath and felt the sun on her face.
Viviane was only focused on one thing. "I just wanna get to the mansion so I can take a shower. Then I can focus on getting comfortable in my new bedroom." She handed off her luggage as she walked into the sleek black van.
Kwan slipped into the driver's seat, followed by the others after the luggage was piled high on the roof.
He pulled up the directions Vincent had given him on his phone so the GPS could lead him to tbeir destination.
The ride remained silent even as Kwan pulled up into the gated driveway of the mansion they were staying in.
Alison's eyes widened brightly at the gated two-story mansion. "We are staying here?!" She exclaimed, unbuckling herself and throwing open the van door, jumping out as soon as Kwan turned off the van.
Natalia nodded, getting out after Allison and helping Kwan get down the suitcases. "Yes, this is our new home for the time we are here." She rellied, rolling her suitcases to the bottom of the stairs to the entrance. "Don't forget your luggage."
Alison grabbed her suitcases, duffle bag and backpack from her father. "Wait for me Mum!" She called, dashing after her mother and rushing up the steps.
Natalia grabbed the key from under the mat at the door. "Be careful, Alli," She said, sticking the key inside the door and unlocking it. "I don't want you tripping on the stairs." She pushed it open and walked in, the cool air-conditioning hit her mixed with the scent of tropical air fresheners.
Vincent looked at his kids, excpect for Allison, all clustered together and taking their dear old time. "Come on. You can talk in here." He called out to them, waving them inside the mansion.
Viviane arranged her luggage and sighed, turning towards the door and making her way there. "Coming, Father." She glanced back to see her siblings following her lead to go inside. "Wow, it's bigger inside." She marveled, walking past him and into the foyer of the entryway. "Where are our rooms?"
Vincent looked at his kids as they piled into the foyer of the mansion. "Up there." He pointed up the stairs. "You will get to pick your own and I expect there to me no fighting." He explained, eyes darting darting his children.
Brian grinned, he was gonna get the first choice if it was the last thing he did. "The last one in the room is a burnt marshmallow!" He darted up the stairs, hoping to find the rooms first, and picked his own.
Viviane gasped like her brother when he dashed past her, she then dashed after him. "Wait! Why does it have to be a marshmallow! I've never even had a marshmallow before, neither have you!"
Brian shrugged, turning back to look at her with a cheeky smile. "Because I said so." He told her, turning around and walking back up the stairs.
Allison groaned face-palming at their childish actions. "Brian, Viviane, do not tarnish our royal names, act as a normal human begins." She called to them, keeping her voice even toned.
Brian laughed at what his sister had said, glancing at Alison and then at Viviane. "Come on, Alli," He crossed his arms and leaning against the railing at the top of the stairs. "We are no longer royals but your average family!" He teased her with a lopsided grin.
Allison rolled her eyes at his comment pointing to her, and she shoved his finger away. "No," She said, crossing her arms over her chest. "Just because we have to live like normal human beings, doesn't mean we can't retain some of our royal character."
Natalia sighed, walking over to them, setting her keys on the table under the mirror in the foyer. "Hmm, how about this: we will keep our royal ways inside the mansion, yet when people visit or outside this mansion, we will act like normal people?" She inquired turning towards her children. "Also remember to use your manners, you should keep some dignity in tact."
Brian shrugged his shoulders walking down to find himself a room. "I am still going to get my first pick in the room!" He exclaimed looking in all the bedrooms, trying to figure out which he wanted on the right side.
"Not without me, your not. "Viviane frowned and followed her brother, looking in all the rooms before darting over to the other side. "I found one!" She exclaimed happily, going down and bringing up her suitcases.
Cooper looked over at his friend, sighing softly. "I must admit, I am glad to get away from the palace. But I'm sad that someone wants us dead and we have no idea who, but it at least got us a chance to spend time together." His tone might have been sad, but he tried to remain optimistic.
Kwan rested his hand on the crown prince's shoulder. "I know, Coop," He softly gently, his heart weighing heavy about his friend. "At least you see the silver lining in all this. Besides, time will tell sooner or later."
Cooper nodded, feeling a tad bit better with his friend's reassuring words. "You're my best mate," He nudged him gently with his elbow.
Kwan chuckled, giving his head a nod, moving his hair from his forehead. "Now, let's find our rooms before the good ones get taken." He commented, putting his hand on the railing and walking up the staircase.
Cooper smiled softly, putting his hands on the railing as he followed Kwan up. "Thank you again, Kwan, you are a wonderful mate. I am so honored to have met you."
Kwan shook his head, with a small smile on his lips. "Pfft, Cooper, I am only doing what any mate would do to help protect my mate and his family whom I've come to love as my own."
*
Cooper smiled as he walked up the steps and came to the first bedroom that was empty. "My," He mumbled, looking around at the big bedroom. There was a king-size bed, basic bedroom furniture, a big balcony, and a bathroom that was the size of an average living room. "The only thing it's missing is colour and my style."
Kwan rolled Cooper's luggage into the room, thanking Vincent, who nodded and walked back down to get the other luggage. "How about we go to the mall? We've got time on our hands and it will be a chance to stretch our legs?"
Cooper nodded his head. That sounded like a good idea. That also gave his parents some time alone. "I'll go ask Mum," He walked down the stairs and over to his mother. "Mum, can I take my siblings to the mall to get stuff for our rooms?"
Natalia looked up and furrowed her brows, looking over at Kwan. "I suppose. Just take these phones, we can track where you're going on ours. Go straight there and come straight back, Kwan, you're in charge. Be back before supper, an hour before supper." She handed her son five phones.
Cooper smiled and kissed her cheek, taking the five phones."We will, promise." He said, walking to go find his siblings so he could tell them what was going on. He knew Kwan was the only one with a driver's license, so it was only natural he'd be in charge.

Soon, they arrived at a mall in the Big Apple. Alison's eyes lit up as she looked around. It had everything she could ever want all in one place! "Who knew a place like this could exist!" She exclaimed, spinning around and taking a deep breath. "We never had one of these back homes."
Cooper looked over at his sister and pursed his lips, shaking his head at her actions. "Ali, act normal like you have been to one before." He whispered to her, grabbing her arm and pulling her close to him. He was not about to draw attention to them, they had to keep a low profile.
Alison looked over at him and rolled her eyes. "I haven't ever seen one before. I can pretend and do my best." She snarkily replied, yanking her arm away from him and fixing her sleeve on her dress. 'Brothers.' She thought and shook her head.
Brian's eyes gazed around the first floor they were in which was the second. "It seems busy and there is only one way to escape, why?" He had noticed the door that came in seemed to be the only way in. That was something he didn't like.
Kwan gave an amused look, he was known for knowledge outside of their kingdom. "It is unlikely for a mall to have just one entryway, some have more than one. Now if some only have one it is because if anything bad happens, the bad guy can only leave the same way he can in making it easier to get caught." He explained but then pointed at the other exits. "There are three exits here."
Viviane placed her hand on her purse at her side. "Makes sense. It would be easier to catch a thief that way . . . Oh, they have moving steps. That is cool and I haven't seen anything like that before. This world beyond our vast island kingdom is amazing." She placed her hands on her cheeks.
Kwan was amused at how amazed she was. "They are called escalators and I would avoid them. Taking the stairs or elevator is much safer and a whole lot cooler if I must add." He had a slight fear of them but who could blame him after going on that side of the web.
Daniel crossed his arms over his chest as he walked down the stairs. "Pray tell why is that Kwan?" He had always been a little paranoid about certain things but this took it to a whole new level. "It looks harmless and many people are going up and down them with no trouble at all."
Kwan placed his hand on Daniel's shoulder shaking his head. "Many people have gotten killed stepping off the escalator and falling through the trap door and getting crushed. It's not a pretty sight nor death." He tried to paint a vague image of what could happen. "Also, shoelaces can get stuck, it's just better to avoid."
Alison cringed at what he had said, trying to erase any vivid images of what he said happening. "Now I will be having nightmares. Thanks, Kwan, for that very gory image of falling through and getting crushed to death." She exclaimed a little loudly, placing her hand on the rails of the steps.
Daniel cracked a smile and nudged his sister. "Don't be so dramatic Ali, it wasn't gory at all. It is no different than saying if you get too close to the edge you will fall off." He teased his sister. They didn't enjoy this like most people though, he just thought he would give her a hard time.
Allison glared over at him, not just any glare but a death glare. "I'm not being dramatic, I am being honest because that is stuff that never crosses my mind, until now. I tend not to think about ways you can die, for me, I think about all the ways you can live." She shot back.
Kwan knew he had hit a touch subject and needed to steer away from it. "How about we go do some shopping now? Get our minds off of all this depressing death talk." He suggested, knowing they had a limited amount of time before they had to be back.
Viviane put her hand up in front of her and gave a nod. "I think that is a splendid idea." She smiled, pivoting on her heels and walking over to the stairs. She stopped and looked back at them. "Come on, we don't have much time."
Brian looked at Daniel, Cooper, and Kwan before following Allison and Viviane. "Wait for me. I am not going to let you go all alone." He said as walked up the steps behind his sister. "We should go all together to keep from getting separated."
Alison turned back to look at her brother as walked up a few steps. "Why not? It isn't like anything bad can happen to us. This place is huge, there are many people and video cameras. We are safe." She might have been a little naive when it came to the dangers of the world.
Brian shook his head at what his sister had said. "I have been watching the news, even places like this aren't safe. Nowhere is safe. Any bad thing can happen no matter where you are. It is just how life is." He explained, not wanting anything bad to happen to his sisters.
Viviane groaned, rolling her eyes and glancing sideways at the two. "Can you two not talk about what bad things could happen? We already have a target on our back and jinx it isn't going to help our situation." She was already uncomfortable, they didn't have to make her ten times more uncomfortable.
Alison rubbed the side of her neck as she took her twin sister's hand. "None of us like this but only time will tell. I know it may be an odd hearing that comes from me but it isn't so bad. Yes, I hate not being able to post and take pictures, but we have more freedom." She sighed heavily, waking up the stairs.
Viviane slightly nodded her head placing her other hand on the strap of her purse. "Ali is right, we can go to the store alone and go to school with other kids. I can't believe I am saying this but, I am excited about school. Kids my age, making friends, it seems like something from a book." She excitedly gushed.
Brian walked through the entryway of one of the bedding stores. "I will agree, we do have much more freedom. I want to experience all America has, including living like a normal person and not a prince. Like Cooper had for thirteen years." He nudged his older brother.
Cooper laughed and nudged him back. "Yes, that was quite a time. I can't deny I was disappointed I was royalty since I knew I'd have to leave my simple life behind. On the other hand, I was thrilled to have siblings, even if I didn't know them." It was a troubling time for him.
Daniel gave a sheepish laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. "I didn't make it any easier for you, Coop. I was pretty jealous that I wasn't going to be king one day, but I ended up coming around." He did feel bad about his actions, yet again, he was a child then.
Cooper looped an arm around his brother and pulled him close. "I understand your plight. You hadn't known about me either and thought you were the eldest when you secretly had an older brother." He shook his head, not wanting to dwell on it any longer. "At least we can now spend more time together."
Brian wrapped his arms around both his sisters as he walked behind them. "We don't have as many priorities as we did back home," He then paused for a moment. "You know, we don't necessarily have to spend our whole time looking for stuff for our room. We can check out the other stores and just explore. I hear they have an arcade, which I would love to check out."
Kwan chuckled at how much they were adjusting to their new lives. "First let's complete shopping first, then we can do other stuff." He didn't want them to get sidetracked. They had six hours before they had to get back and he wasn't going to squander it.
