♛ Chapter Four ♛

When supper had finished, Stephoné had retreated to her room, closing the door just enough that it still was a bit cracked open.

She pulled one of her blankets over her body, and buried her head in her pillow, letting out a long sigh. 'I wish my mood would improve instead of feeling so empty.' She thought to herself, closing her eyes.

Lillian passed by her daughter's room, she peeked in and saw her daughter cuddled under a blanket on her bed. 'Oh, Steph . . .' Her thoughts trailed off as her expression softened the longer she looked at her daughter. 'I wish I could make her happy - I know it's not my fault but . . .'

She took a step back from the door and walked into the living room. She took the phone off the stand and pressed some buttons, dialing a number.

"Hello?" The feminine voice on the other end of the line spoke after picking up the phone. "Lillian? What can I help you with"

"Margaret," Lillian smiled softly hearing the women had answered the phone. "I was wondering if you and Will could come over to my house and try to cheer up Stephoné while I am gone back to work?" She twisted the curly phone cord around her finger, chewing on her lip.

Margaret, gave an sigh from the other end of the phone. "Of course we can. We will be over there in a few minutes." She then put her hand over the phone speaker and spoke to her son.

Lillian placed her hand over her chest, feeling better since Stephoné wouldn't be alone. "Thank you so much, I will see you in a few." She hung up after they said their goodbyes and she went to get ready once again.

About five minutes later there was a knock at the door, and Lillian answered it in a rather quick way, slipping in her flats with a smile.

"Thank you two so much, I am so sorry I can't stay and chat, I have to get going." She gave an apologetic look to the two blonde-haired mother and son duo. "You can stay the night if you want, I'm sure Steph would really like that."

Will blew his messy blond hair from his face, his bright brown eyes looked at Lillian. "Thanks, Lillian, I'd love to stay over with my little sister," He shook his head at her words, walking through the door and into the living room, turning to her as he spoke.

Margaret nodded with a soft smile on her lips. "It's never a problem, Lillian, I'm always happy to come over." She pushed her curly ponytail to her back, her own brown eyes sympathetic.

Lillian smiled, grabbing her purse and walking out the door, and turning back to them. "Bye Stephoné, love you and see you later," She called out to her daughter, earning a soft love and bye back, before looking at Margaret and Will. "And thank you two again, this means so much to me." She closed the door with a wave.

Margaret turned to her son, she put her hands on her hips and ran a hand through her hair. "You go tend to your sister and I'll start on the laundry." She departed from her son and made her way to the little back porch.

Will walked down the hall and up to his half-sister's door. He peaked in and saw Stephoné looking like a little burrito. He knocked on the door softly, being careful not to say a word.

Stephoné let out a sigh as she turned to the door. "Come in." She opened her eyes as she heard the door open all the way, she pulled the blanket up to her chin.

Will closed the door behind him after he had stepped into the room and then made his way over to his bed. "It seems like someone needs to be cheered up, what's bugging you, Steph?" He laid down beside his half-sister, resting his cheek in his hand after he had rolled on his side.

Stephoné nodded, looking over at her half-brother and rolling on her side, lacing her fingers with his. "Everything?" She replied vaguely, recoiled and clarified. "Mostly, I've been thinking a lot about . . . our father," Her voice grew softer near the end of her sentence.

Will laced his fingers together with hers. "Sabrina said something about last week's father/child fundraiser at school, didn't she?" He asked softly, his eyes darting around her face.

Stephoné sighed at the thought that had formed in her head before she began to speak again. "Yeah, she did. I just wish we knew our father, like, I wish he never abandoned us . . . it'd be nice to have that bond father's have with their kids."

Will pulled her close to his chest, and hugged her softly yet tightly. "It would be, but we were never dealt that card. Even I'm jealous at times of people with great dads, like Ariana. What I'd give for a dad like that, he's like Dad of the Year seventeen years running."

Stephoné felt better knowing she wasn't alone in her feelings. "Mr. Greene is pretty cool, huh? I wish he was my dad. Ariana is blessed to have such a dad in her life . . ." Her voice grew soft as she trailed off.

Will mustered up a smile and tried to be optimistic. "At least we have each other, right? I've got the best half-sister in the world, and you have the best half-brother in the world." He grinned, pulling away from her.

Stephoné blushed slightly at his words. "You are the best brother a person could ask for." She whispered to him, closing her eyes and just feeling safe in her older half-brother's arms. "But I don't think I'm the best sister, honestly, I'm kinda sucky at being a sister."

Will scoffed at her words, shaking his head. "You're not a sucky sister." He countered, feeling bad to see his sister think so lowly of herself. "Why do you think that?"

Stephoné twisted a lock of her hair around her finger. "Because," She held up her wrist. "You were the one who found me and I scared you again . . . it makes me feel bad because you shouldn't have seen me like that." She whispered.

Will frowned, his expression softening as she explained it. "Oh Steph," His tone just as soft as his expression. "You shouldn't feel bad because your depression isn't something you can exactly control."

"My last therapist said it was, I have to use self control and not allow myself to go down that path." Stephoné replied, glancing up and meeting his eyes for a moment. "So, yeah, I am a sucky sister."

Will shook his head, giving her a lopsided smile. "You're there for me when I need you, and you're the best hugger. I see an amazing girl who deserves nothing but the best." He slowly emphasized the last five word sof his sentence.

Stephoné chewed on her lip to keep from laughing at his comment since she had buried her head in his chest to keep from him seeing her blush. "Will!" She groaned feeling her cheeks heat up even more. "Why must you do this to me?"

Will grinned when he heard her embarrassed voice. "Because you're my sister, and I want you to feel better, smile a bit every so often!"" He exclaimed, pursing his lips afterward.

Stephoné groaned and pulled her head out of his chest and looked up at him, cocking her head to the side. "I know, thank you, it means a lot to me." She whispered, fighting back a smile.

Will played with her hair as he listened to what she had said, feeling her relax in his arms a bit more than before. "You don't need to think me, Steph." He smiled. "Now, moving on, I have a swim competition at the end of the week, and will you be there?"

Stephoné looked up at him, after opening up her eyes, giving his words a good thought before replying. "Of course I will, I'd never miss it in the world. Ariana will be there as well, so I can sit with her the whole time and cheer you on silently from out spot, hopefully away from people."

"I need all the cheering because I need to help the school win. Coach says I am the fastest swimmer on the team and has put me last to make up for the time of the others." Will exclaimed, his eyes shining brightly.

Stephoné softly giggled at how enthusiastic her brother was about his competition. "You guys will win. Nothing has been stop you guys so far. You'll bring home that shiny trophy that can be added to the school's collection." She reassured him, lacing her fingers back in his hand.

Will smiled at his half-sister's words, nodding his head. "You're right about that. We will win. We will bring home that trophy. We will make out school proud!" He proudly said, rolling on his back and putting his hand over his chest.

Stephoné rolled her eyes at his words, rolling on her own back. "You should keep up that confidence . . . I wish I could muster up that much confidence, but I wasn't dealt that card." She sighed softly and frowned deeply.

Will shook his head at her words, they were quite untrue and he was going to tell her that it was. "You have it," He pointed to her with his finger. "It's just buried deep down and you haven't had a chance to pull it out and use it. You'll get that chance and you'll enjoy your new found confidence."

Stephoné pulled the blanket over her head and slightly peaked out from them. "I don't have it, though. I've never had confidence or courage, I lack them." She frowned as her voice grew soft.

Will chuckled, finding her actions cute. "I'm not going to argue with you, you silly ninny." He poked her forehead with his finger. "You know I'm right, just accept it."

Stephoné groaned, covering her face up with her hands, peeking out between her fingers. "Fine, I'll try," She emphasized on the word try, hoping he'd just leave it at that. "But don't have any expectations."

Will folded his hands on top of his stomach and tapped his fingers. "Okay, okay, I suppose that's the best I'm going to get." He caved in, turning his head towards her and smiling. "You could be a little happier too, it's help you out.

Stephoné looked up at him, knitting her eyebrows and frowning a bit at his words. "When was the last time you knew me to be happy?" She asked bluntly, twisting her hair around her finger.

"All right, I see your point. I shouldn't ask such things of you when you're already trying your best. I'm sorry." Will apologized, looking back up at the stucco ceiling.

Stephoné rested one under her pillow and the other on her side. "Are you excited to find out the prom theme? Ariana is, after all, she is planning the whole soiree." She asked, glancing to him out of the corner of her eye. "She is very crafty, isn't she?"

"As excited as the average person," Will replied softly, pursing his lips and humming softly. "Yeah, she's quite crafty. I wish I was able to design and make clothes. I've never been a crafty person, it was a card I was never dealt."

Stephoné moved her feet up and down under the covers. "I don't want to go to prom, but Ariana is very persistent that I go. I just want to stay home and watch reruns of something, not stand awkwardly to the side."

Will turned his head towards his sister. "You owe me a dance," He suddenly mused, pushing his curls from his face. "I mean, you should dance with me, it'd be fun, huh?"

Stephoné sighed softly, twisting her hair around her finger. "I will maybe have one, just one, dance with you . . . but you know I'm awful at dancing, it's not my forte -"

Will quickly cut his sister off. "I can't dance either but we can unleash our awkward disco moves, and you know we get to make the playlist, doesn't that sound fun?" He asked, rolling on her side.

Stephoné titled her head back and forth as she rested her hands on her stomach. "It does sound fun. Do you think Ariana will allow me to add a ton of my songs?" She asked, her eyes brightening up a but.

Will crackled a smile, his eyes starting to sparkle. "Duh, of course," He confirmed, nodding his head. "We can add anything we want! We have full reign, Ariana said so, and even our principal agreed. I'm sure many will like the ones I've got in mind, because they have great beats and are popular on the radio."

Stephoné felt envy snaking it's way into her chest. "You're too optimistic. This is the school we are talking about, you can't make everyone happy, there will be people complaining." She frowned, itching the back of her head.

Will bit his lip, knowing she had a good point. "That's is true." He agreed, covering his mouth with his hand as he yawned. "Oh, before I forget, tomorrow is a new day, let's hope it will be better than today, hmm?"

"I guess you're right," Stephoné reluctantly agreed. "I will wait and start to hope." She vowed, unsure weather she could follow through with it or not, which was why she didn't promise it.

Will smiled and lightly pinched her cheek, cooing. "That is my little sister." His tone turned childish for a brief moment which turned into a laugh at her rolling her eyes, seemingly embarrassed. "You are my little sister, even if it is just by a year."

A/N:
Haha, once again the other half of the previous chapter.

Some of these chapters will be around 2k words, which is much smaller than what the 3k I'm aiming for. I may edit and add more as time goes on but right now I'm just focused on editing.

Chapter Talk:

Stephoné and Will have such a beautiful sibling relationship. I really enjoyed writing it since you don't get a lot of non-chaotic relationships. I wish my sister and I had a relationship like that, alas we do not. Such a shame.

Thanks for reading!
