Chapter 2
Chat Noir sat on a rooftop with a bored expression on his face as he watched a couple on a nearby balcony repeat overly cheesy love expressions to each other while grasping each other's hands. He finally turned away in disgust when the couple decided to smooch.
There were only two rules this kitty lived by: Do whatever it takes to survive and don't fall in love.
Even if surviving meant being apart of the most wanted criminal gang, in the entire Ladybug kingdom.
He would rather live through the excitement of being chased around the kingdom, sneaking and robbing houses, being respected by his gang members, kick butt and live life to the fullest than being cold and hungry on the street like a stray cat.
He could do whatever he wanted, however he wanted, and whenever he wanted without following any rules that shackled his feet from true freedom, which was, in his opinion, freely robbing houses and leaping from rooftop to rooftop. Long as he didn't do anything to disappoint the leader of the gang, his life was complete perfection.
His best bud Nino, who was also part of the Acuma gang, often joked that Chat Noir could win every girl's heart in the kingdom if he wanted to. But as always, Chat Noir shrugged it off and told him the whole concept of "love" was the most stupidest thing he ever heard in his life.
If love wasn't going to fill his stomach or make him rich, then he didn't want any part of it at all. Granted, there was a time in his life when he had a family, a home.
But that was in the past, and that's where it will always stay. He was mostly focused on who he was now, as Chat Noir...the stealthy and deadly young man who hid his identity behind a cat-shaped leather mask and could slice a throat without a care in the world.
Besides, falling in love is a compete waste of his time.
As he remained on the rooftop twirling his staff absentmindedly, Nino suddenly swung himself up next to him. The pair fist-bumped before Nino pulled out a piece of paper.
"Message from Hawk-Boss." he told him.
Chat Noir nodded and accepted the piece of paper from Nino. He unfolded it and began to read.
You have a new mission:
You must break into the Royal Castle and retrieve the crown of the Lost Ladybug princess... we can profit from the jewels and expand our weaponry.
DON'T disappoint me.
Chat Noir refolded the paper with a smirk. "Hawk-Boss is really tryna give me a challenge, isn't he?"
Nino shrugged with an all-knowing smile. "Everyone knows your the best out of the entire Acuma gang, bro, so I don't know why you're so surprised."
"I'm not surprised...I'm disappointed."
Nino cocked his head. "Why?"
"Seriously, Nino? Steal some stupid crown? Why couldn't he tell me to kill the king or something?"
"You're really giving me the creeps, dude. You're such a daredevil," laughed Nino.
Chat Noir grinned, his eyes flashing with danger. "One of the best."
Later that night, the two boys stealthy sneaked their way past the many security guards guarding the castle, and leaped over more walls and roofs than they could possibly count without being spotted. Their black outfits and soundproof boots were the ideal tools for some quick royal robbery. They had scouted this area many times before, so they knew what each and every nook and cranny the castle contained...not to mention how many guards were at each entrance and so on.
Finally, their feet landed atop the glass roof of the Throne room, where inside they could see the Princess's tiara protected in a glass encasement and guarded by at least 20 royal guards.
"You'd think that they would have more guards here, since this is, ya'know, the freakin' Throne room," Chat Noir whispered.
"Ditto, bro." agreed Nino quietly. "So what's the plan?"
"We give 'em the classic break in, kill 'em all, get the stupid thing, and then bolt."
Nino slapped his forhead. "Dude, do we really have to kill them?"
Chat Noir's green eyes glittered in the dark mischievously. "Hey, why not? It's always fun to spill blood every now and then."
"Yeah...but I just got this shirt washed."
"Too bad...blood on your shirt is the price of being awesome. You know that."
Nino grumbled as he passed Chat Noir a knife.
Inside the throne room, the royal guards didn't happen to notice the silent activity happening on the roof over them. Suddenly, there was a smash, and Chat Noir and Nino were all of a sudden standing in front of the guards armed to the teeth, a crazy grin on Chat's face.
Many yelled and blood was shed as the guards tried in vain to stop the criminals in their tracks, but they barely even left them with a scratch. Chat Noir was smacking guards left and right with his staff, throwing a knife into the back of a particular guard who had the bright idea to try and attack Nino from behind.
Finally, the fight ended with 18 royal guards on the ground, dead. "The other two probably went to get reinforcements," predicted Nino.
"I hope that's what they're doing," replied Chat Noir sarcastically. "Maybe then we can actually get a good fight next time."
When they both reached the glass boxed encasing the royal tiara, Chat Noir raised his gloved fist and punched straight through the glass. He then grabbed the crown and turned it over and over in his hands.
"This looks kinda cheap, Nino," he commented.
Nino rolled his eyes. "Let's just get out of here, dude."
When several more guards arrived, all they found was 18 dead bodies and 2 dark figures leaping out of a smashed window into the darkness of the night.
After one look around the scene, Commander Plagg yelled orders for the two thieves to be found at once and then hung in the most undignified manner.
The boys were able to swing themselves to the ground from the window without being caught, but unfortunately, Nino landed with a cry of pain.
"Crap..." Chat Noir muttered, hoping the guards didn't hear him. "You okay, Nino? Can you stand?"
Nino tried to stand, but only ended up wincing and falling to the ground with a thud. "My leg is killin' me."
They both heard the footsteps of the guards fast approaching. We don't have time for this, a pissed off Chat Noir thought as he slung Nino's arm around his neck and helped his injured gang member to his feet. The two hurried as fast as they could towards the woods, hoping that the guards would lose sight of them there.
A few hours later, Chat Noir could see the sun's rays stretching over the horizon.
They had to hurry.
Chat pulled Nino to a small opening he found in a nearby rockery and rested Nino against it's walls.
"Nino," he said, "We need to split up."
Nino nodded, trying his best to hold back moans of pain. He reached inside his brown leather satchel and gave the crown to Chat Noir. "You take this and get somewhere safe until the guards give up the chase and go back. Then we'll meet back at the hideout."
Chat nodded and took the crown from Nino and placing it safely into his own bag. He then covered Nino in a bunched of leaves and branches and hoped that the guards wouldn't notice him. As soon as he was done he ran for his life, leaping over rocks and stumps until he eventually took refuge in a giant oak tree.
Commander Plagg thundered though the forest on his horse with his men and searched with the eye of an eagle. This is such a waste of time, I could've been enjoying a nice platter of Camembert right now, thought the irritated Commander.
Chat Noir held his breath when he saw Commander Plagg and his men pause at his tree and inspect it suspiciously. The oak had many leaves and branches, but the sun was rising higher and higher, making his chances of being easily spotted from 1-100%.
One of the many reasons why he hated the daytime.
After a thorough search (or so he thought), Commander Plagg continued on deeper into the forest, and Chat Noir was finally able to give a huge gasp of relief.
He swung from branch to branch and finally landed himself into the soft moss growing at the foot of the oak tree. He then raced along the path back to the kingdom, but suddenly paused with a puzzled expression on his face. He didn't remember these mysterious dirt paths leading to the kingdom.
He shrugged and figured being lost was better than being chased, so he continued to run down the dirt paths in hopes that it was a quick detour to his desired destination. However, when he came to the end he realized he was deeper into the forest then he thought. Here, the trees and other wild plants seemed to grow more wildly and more closely together.
Chat Noir groaned in frustration. Why did he have to be lost today of all days?
Suddenly, he though he could hear the slight sound of a river close by. He decided to follow the sound to it's source, and sure enough he had found a beautiful river within 20 minutes.
But the strangest thing was that he also found a stone tower also standing a few feet away...
