Chapter 10: A Time For Change

Thanks to the dedication and loyalty of the palace staff the death of the king and the condition of the injured prince was kept secret from the public and Lila and Madame Rossi were both convicted and punished in a private hearing at the palace. A month later Adrien was back on his feet and preparations for his speech were being made. As he got dressed in his best suit Adrien couldn't help but wonder how his people would react to the news. He knew it would not be easy and there were many changes that needed to be made but with Marinette and his new friends by his side he knew that everything would be ok. Adrien took a deep breath and turned to leave his room when he noticed Marinette standing in the doorway. He smiled when he saw Marinette was in the blue dress he had custom made for her and that she had placed her hair in a bun. "You look beautiful," he said as he placed a kiss on her cheek. "Thank you," she said back. "Now let's go deliver this speech." Adrien nodded and the two of them headed to the front stairs of the palace.

As they entered the main hall they found their friends waiting for them dressed in their costumes. "Are you sure this how you want to proceed Adrien?" Nathaniel asked. Adrien nodded, "Yeah I'm sure." With that said Adrien walk to the door and pushed it open revealing himself and Marinette to those waiting on the other side. He had sent guards all over the kingdom to spread the word about the speech he would be giving. Adrien wanted as many people there as possible so that he could get the word out quickly about what had happened. Linking his arm with Marinette, Adrien made his way to the edge of the stairs to stand before the people of his kingdom. The people cheered as Prince Adrien took his place and prepared to speak. Taking one last glance at the faces around him Adrien took a deep breath and began his speech:

"Citizens of France, it is with a heavy heart and renewed hope that I stand before you today. I believe that it is time you are aware of some things that have been going on behind the closed doors of the palace. A month ago today, I joined my friends in a battle to overthrow my own father. I know it may come as a shock to all of you but I too, grew tired of my father's dictatorship. It was not an easy decision but as crown prince and future king I felt it necessary to remove my father from power. On that night, my friends and I snuck into the castle and I confronted my father while they held back the guards. My father and I fought with our swords and shared our views. I managed to get the upper hand and knock my father down but he struck back and stabbed me in the gut. To protect me and save my life Le Paon bravely jumped into the battle and killed my father. The king is dead and I will be taking my place as the new king. The absurd rules my father has enforced upon you will be terminated immediately and life will go back to the way it was before my father changed. Due to my recovery, I felt I needed to protect you from worry and concern until I could address you myself. I understand any anger or worries you may have and I am willing to answer any questions. Also, at the end of this week I will be marrying my real bride, Mml. Marinette Dupain-Cheng. All of you are welcome to attend the ceremony and a new era of peace and happiness will begin."

Adrien watched as the crowd remained silent in front of him. He began to worry that his people were angry and a mob was about to ensue. However, the silence was broken by cheers and the whole crowd broke out in celebration. Adrien allowed them to rejoice before speaking once more.

"To end this meeting, I would like to introduce you to the Heroes of France who helped me win the battle against my father. Heroes, when I call your name please step forward and remove your mask: Le Paon, also known as Nathaniel Kurtzberg, is an amazing artist and swordsman. Volpina, also known as Alya Césaire, is an up and coming journalist with a sassy personality. Jade Turtle, also known as Nino Lahiffe, loves music and is also an excellent swordsman. Queen Bee, also known as Chloe Bourgeois, has a fiery personality and is skilled in using a whip for combat. Papillon, also known as Sabrina Raincomprix, is a smart young woman with more courage than she believes herself to have. Lastly, our leader and founder Ladybug, also known as Marinette Dupain-Cheng, is a girl who loves designing, baking, and who is also my fiancé. These are the Heroes of France that I was gratefully allowed to become friends and partners with and who have given all of us the chance to have a fresh start in our lives. Thank you all standing up for what you believe in and allowing me to join you even though you did not know who I was under the mask. With that said, I am going to bring this speech to a close. Thank you all for joining me and I promise I will rule this kingdom with a kind heart and a firm hand just like my mother would have wanted. Have a good day everyone and I hope to see you all here for the wedding and my coronation."

The crowd clapped and cheered as Adrien and the Heroes of France took their leave. "Well that went better than I expected," Adrien commented. His friends nodded in agreement as they followed him to the dining hall for lunch. While they ate Marinette and Adrien discussed their wedding and the preparations that still needed to be done. Their friends looked on and smiled at each other as they watched the young couple discuss their wedding. Eventually, a casual conversation began amongst the seven teenagers and time flew by. After a couple of hours, they decided it was time to part ways for the day so that they could each attend to their personal obligations.

The week flew by as Marinette and Adrien prepared for their wedding. Before they knew it, the big day arrived and everyone was scrambling to get ready as the guests arrived. Alya, Chloe, Sabrina, Mylène, Alix, Rose, and Juleka helped Marinette put on her makeup and dress. Her dress was a simple, modest white gown with beaded floral detailing around the bottom and neck. Marinette felt almost claustrophobic as the six girls swarmed around her. However, the swarm ended once the girls heard the music begin to play and they began to line up at the door to wait for Plagg's signal to enter.

Back in the boys' room things had been much different. The boys had put on their suits and then sat down to talk until the wedding started. Adrien looked at the young men around him. Due to his father's sheltering ways, he had made no friends except for Nino and Nathaniel who he met after joining the group. However, Nino had taken the lead and introduced him to some of the boys around town that he had become familiar with from school. Adrien had enjoyed meeting the boys and he smiled at the group that would have his back as he married his true love. Nino was his best man of course, then there were his groomsmen Nathaniel, Kim, Ivan, and Max. The boys were all very different but they came together and made up a great group of friends. The boys were so busy talking they didn't notice Plagg come into the room. "It's show time gentleman," Plagg said with a small smile. With that the boys lined up and made their way to the altar.

Standing at the altar Adrien fidgeted nervously as he tried to desperately calm his nerves. Nino placed a reassuring hand on Adrien's shoulder as he whispered in his ear, "You've got this man. Just relax and remember that it's just a ceremony to solidify what you both already know. You love each other and you want to spend the rest of your lives together. This ceremony is just to celebrate that. Nothing to be nervous about." Adrien took a deep breath and gave Nino a grateful smile. "Thanks Nino," he whispered just as the music began to play and the girls rounded the corner.

As the girls made their way into the room Marinette became increasingly nervous the closer her turn came to go inside. Alya noticed immediately and turned to give Marinette a reassuring hug. "Just relax girl. All you are doing is telling Adrien that you love him on a fancier scale. You're going to be fine. Let's go." With that said, Alya disappeared into the room and Marinette took a calming breath before she walked inside. "May I do the honors of giving the bride away?" a familiar voice asked. Marinette turned around to see a face she hadn't seen in eight years. "Ms. Tikki!?" Marinette exclaimed enveloping the petite red haired woman in a hug. "It's good to see you too," Tikki said returning the hug. "Plagg said you needed someone to give you away and I thought who better than an old friend?" Marinette nodded and extended her arm for Tikki to take and the two women headed into the room. She smiled when she saw Adrien waiting for her at the altar. If he was there everything would be just fine.

Marinette took her place in front of Adrien and the pastor began to perform the ceremony. "Adrien, do you take Marinette to be your lawfully wedded wife to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, till death do you part?" the pastor asked. "I do." Adrien said smiling. "And do you Marinette take Adrien to be your lawfully wedded husband to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, till death do you part?" the pastor asked. "I do." Marinette replied. "Then it is with great pleasure that I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." The pastor said with a smile. Marinette and Adrien kissed and the room erupted with cheers. The bride and groom made their escape with their wedding party right behind them. Once they were back in front of the dressing room they all gathered in a group hug before splitting up once more to change for the reception.

At the reception, Adrien and Marinette shared their first dance as a married couple. As they danced the bride and groom stared lovingly into each other's eyes. Adrien and Marinette stayed in their trance until the quieting of the music and Plagg's voice snapped them back to reality. "Adrien it's time," Plagg said with a smile. Adrien nodded and made his way to the top of the stairs where Plagg was waiting with his father's crown and scepter. "Adrien," he began. "In light of your father's passing and the oath you took to become our next king in his absence, I am proud to introduce you as our new king. Congratulations, King Adrien Agreste of France. The crowd cheered as Plagg placed the crown on Adrien's head and handed him the scepter. Adrien was now the king of France and Marinette was now his queen. He looked forward to ruling his kingdom and sharing his future adventures with his new wife. Adrien and Marinette didn't know what life had in store for their future but they knew as long as they were together they could overcome any obstacle. THE END.
