《 it's a map 》
Marinette forgot how enormous the museum was. No matter how many times she visited the historical place for excursion trips during school, she was always dumbfounded by the pure beauty of the architecture. After all, she was a designer. She tended to look at the intricacies of things.
"Look," Adrien said, pointing to a new addition to the museum, "it's another one of those hologram newspapers."
The four teenagers, with the oddly quiet villain in tow, walked towards the device. Marinette pushed the button and jumped back when the light streams shot up in front of her. Adrien caught her shoulders, squeezing them gently in reassurance before letting his hands fall by his side.
"It's a map," Alya stated.
And she wasn't wrong. The hologram showed the basic blueprints of the entire museum. Whilst the layout of the museum didn't seem to differ from the 2017 version, the exhibits did.
And the Miraculous exhibit was in the very eastern room of the museum. Marinette pointed to the exhibit on the map, her index finger so used to touching paper maps, went straight through the light beams, distorting the image before she retracted her finger. "The Miraculouses must be in this room."
Everyone nodded before falling into step behind Alya who already had a picture of the map on her phone.
As they walked, Marinette noticed the lagging villain. She nudged Adrien who was beside her and nodded her head in the direction of the akumatised Parisian. Adrien rolled his eyes. "Hey, slowpoke. Did you want the jewelry or not? We're doing this for you, you know."
The Inventor broke away from his reverie and started the jog towards the four teenagers. What an odd little man, Marinette thought, keeping a close eye on the villain thinking that it was strange for an akuma-possessed person to be this willing to follow mere teens.
"Just a little further," Alya called from the front.
Five minutes passed until they reached the eastern room that was meant to exhibit Miraculous related artifacts and possessions. As they walked into the center of the room and observed the items that surrounded them, they became more confused.
"This isn't Miraculous," Nino murmured, almost under his breath, "This is the Stone Age."
"Doesn't this museum go in chronological order?" Adrien asked,
"Yes," Alya breathed.
"Which means we are at the wrong end of the museum." Marinette finished.
A machine started to hum. They whipped their heads towards the noise.
The Inventor was waving to them from the entrance of the room, his mouth stretched into an evil smirk as a large gate started to descend from the ceiling. He was standing next to what seemed to be a security guard, but his eyes were encased in a glowing purple butterfly mask, controlled by Hawkmoth. Marinette was sure that the security guard pushed the button to turn on the gate mechanisms and flipped the map so that they all went in the wrong direction.
"Did you think I would let you find the Miraculous with me?" The Inventor laughed as the gate was almost shut, "You'd just want it for yourselves!" He was going to lock them far away from the Miraculous exhibit.
The teens were too stunned at the double-cross, even though they subconsciously expected it, to run towards the gate to try and squeeze under it.
The Inventor and security guard turned their backs on the caged teenagers as the gate thudded with the ground beneath it.
The Inventor's laugh ran through their ears as he made his way towards the Ladybug and Cat Noir Miraculouses.
Crap.
