Chapter 29

Steve froze. He didn't know whether to just swing at Beta or run. Either way, he'd probably die.

He lowered his sword to his side. "Beta," Steve said.

"Were you going to kill me?" Beta asked, feigning innocence.

"As a matter of fact, yes," Steve replied.

Beta's eyes narrowed. "How rude," he said as he pressed a button on something in his pocket.

An alarm blared. How had they had time to set up an alarm? Steve thought pointlessly.

He drank an invisibility potion and ran. There was no use in trying to kill Beta. Steve would probably lose anyway.

He ran straight to the building with the stairs. Hopefully Jay was there somewhere, waiting for him. Steve heard Beta yelling after him.

Mojang monsters ran around frantically, trying to find the invisible intruder. But Steve evaded all of them.

He reached the building with the stairs, which was empty of monsters at the moment. He looked around and saw Jay hiding in a corner.

"Jay!" Steve yelled quietly. "Drink a potion!"

"Steve?" Jay asked. "What's going on?" He drank a potion of invisibility just as two Skeletons in iron helmets barrelled in, looking for the intruders. But they were invisible.

The Skeletons ran up the stairs. "Follow them," Steve whispered. He hoped Jay heard, cause Steve ran up the stairs.

Up the stairs was a whole different world. They couldn't see from below, but up there there were prisoners everywhere. It was another nether brick bridge, but this time there were large cells on the sides of the bridge.

In the one closest to them, to the left of the bridge, about 50 Blazes sat dejectedly in the corner, not blazing with angry fire like usual. Across from the Blazes were 50 Wither Skeletons, who held their stone swords sadly at their sides. Next to the Blazes were 50 Zombie Pigmen, crowded in a corner, but not speaking. Across from the Zombie Pigs were 50 Magma Cubes, unmoving. And at the end of the bridge, on the other side of a four way intersection, the 50 Ghasts lay on the ground behind their cage. A few of them moaned sadly.

All five groups were behind nether brick bars, and they were all too depressed to escape, despite being capable of doing just that.

The alarm was still blaring, but no one suspected that Steve and Jay would be in the prisoner area. They thought that the two rebels thought Nether monsters were too dangerous.

And they were. Steve had one small hope that his plan would work.

He heard Jay standing next to him, taking it all in. The Skeletons that had come up here left the prisoner area via the intersection.

Steve and Jay were alone with the prisoners.

"Ready?" Steve whispered. "You know what to do."

Jay was silent, but Steve assumed he nodded. It was time for the plan.

And they had to act fast, or their invisibility potions would run out.

Steve ran over to the Blaze cage, and he heard Jay run to the Wither Skeletons. Steve broke the door with his iron pickaxe.

The Blazes looked up, noticing the absence of the door. But none of them moved.

Steve stared at them helplessly, unable to do anything invisible. The Blazes were too beaten up to want to escape. They had lost their will to live.

Suddenly, four Spiders in iron helmets ran up the stairs. They saw the Blaze and Wither Skeleton cages broken open.

Two went to investigate each cage. Steve backed away, and he hoped Jay did too. When the Spiders got to the Blaze door, the Blazes jumped into action. They shot fireballs at the unsuspecting Spiders, killing them. Then the Blazes rushed out of the cage and down the stairs. Steve heard screams. He smiled.

A similar thing happened at the Wither Skeleton cage. Now it was time to move on to the next monsters.

Steve broke open the Zombie Pigmen's door, and Jay broke open the Magma Cube's door. The Zombie Pigs rushed out right away, ready to attack. Some went down the four way intersection near the Ghasts.

The Magma Cubes were much slower, but they made their way down the stairs and helped attack.

Now for the Ghasts. Their cage was much larger than the others, since they were so huge and there were 50 of them. The door was ten blocks wide and ten blocks tall.

Steve ran towards it, and he saw Jay running there too.

Wait.

He saw Jay? That meant the invisibility potions had worn off.

"Aw crap man, I can see you!" Jay exclaimed.

The alarm cut off shortly, like something had attacked it. Something most likely did.

"We can't just let the Ghasts see us, can we?" Jay asked.

"I think we can," Steve answered, and he started breaking down the door. Jay didn't seem to like this, but he helped too.

When they finished, none of the Ghasts moved. They saw Steve and Jay, but were too sad to do anything.

"We have to ride them," Steve murmured.

"What?!" Jay exclaimed incredulously.

Steve stood next to Jay. "Splash a potion on us," Steve ordered. Jay obeyed.

Not wanting to think it through anymore, Steve ran and jumped on a Ghast that was lying on the floor. It screamed in alarm.

Steve managed to get a grip on it and pulled upward. The Ghast flew up, not wanting to be hurt. Then Steve steered it towards the door.

Surprised, the Ghast let out a fireball, which collided with the cage wall, making the hole bigger for the Ghasts to escape. Steve steered the Ghast out the hole and above the building with he stairs.

He was riding a Ghast.

He saw all the Ghasts following him, and he hoped Jay was on one of them. The Ghasts started shooting fireballs at anything that survived the Blazes, Wither Skeletons, Magma Cubes, and Zombie Pigmen. Which wasn't much since these monsters were destroying everything below. One by one, the Mojang units fell.

Steve saw Beta's office was destroyed. But the commander himself was nowhere to be found. Hopefully he was dead.

The Ghast destroyed more of the bridges. Steve happily let it.

Now Mojang couldn't stage a full attack on the Resistance. And hopefully, the Spider, Slime, and Skeleton commanders were dead.

Steve steered his Ghast back to the portal, and he saw one following him. It must be the one Jay was on.

He heard an explosion behind him. Somehow, someone had gotten hold of some TNT and blew the entire place up. The only thing left was the nether brick platform on the lava, which used to be the support beam.

Steve hopped off his Ghast in front of the portal. So did Jay, just as their potions wore off. The two Ghast left.

"That was crazy, man!" Jay yelled. "Awesome, but crazy!"

"Yeah," Steve agreed. "Let's go home."

The two entered the Nether portal to return home.

* * *

A few hours later...

Three very different figures sat on the nether brick platform in the lava, that used to be the support beam. They were the only three survivors of the Nether monster attack.

"This is all your fault!" a silky voice shouted. "If you had just checked on the prisoners like he told you to--"

"I did check on them!" a slimy voice yelled back. "They were fine when I was there, so I left! So stop yelling at me!"

"No!" the silky voice replied loudly. "Everything that ever happens is always your fault! Now we can't attack the Resistance, cause our units are completely dead!"

"It's not my fault the prisoners escaped!" the slimy voice shouted. "If we had used cobblestone like I suggested instead of nether brick, maybe they wouldn't have escaped!"

"I didn't build the--"

"SILENCE!" the third figure yelled.

The other two shut up.

"We will go back to Mojang. We will get more troops. Then, we will attack the Resistance!" the raspy voice said.

"But how are we gonna get back?" the slimy voice whined.

Suddenly, a small helicopter appeared above them and lowered a ladder.

Delta, Gamma, and Beta escaped the Nether.

They wouldn't be attacking the Resistance tomorrow.

But once they got more troops, the Resistance was as good as dead.
