// Chapter eight //
The day Ashton had talked to Serabi hadn't gone as planned. Of course he didn't expect them to lock eyes from afar and suddenly run down the hall in slow motion to jump into the others arm and they'll be best friends again and never part ways, this wasn't the movies. He knew she would need some more poking to budge and he was open to trying and that's why he sat in the cafeteria at a deserted table waiting for her to walk through those doors but what he wasn't waiting for Jemma and her minions to slide in next to him.
"I know you." Jemma points at him with a well polished finger of hers. "You are Ashton Wave. The kid who moved away because his parents couldn't sort their shit out." It annoyed him how she talked about his parents like she knew their lives and he was also surprised that she had recalled him although not with good circumstances.
"I saw you helping out that social misfit. You don't help misfits here, you make them miserable. You helping them makes you one of them and you do not want to be one of them." She placed her hand on his shoulders and laughed richly. To her, she had just given the best advice she could give any newbie. "Look," She carried on. "You seem cute. I usually don't help newbies. If they do prove themselves to not be outcast, I help them up to the popular table but otherwise I make life in high school hell for them!" She said exaggerating the hell in the sentence.
Then it dawned on Ashton, she didn't remember him, matter of fact, she had no clue who he was. She had just saw him in the hall trying to help Serabi, asked one of her minions to do a database, found who he was and because he was hot decided to "help".
"Why make peoples lives miserable? What did they ever do you?"
"They are nothing like us. They are different. Outcasts. And I don't think outcasts should be treated equally, no one in the world is treated with equality, so why should they?" Jemma looked at her minions surrounding her for support and they all nodded in agreement. Ashton could bet that she was just as mean to most of them if not all.
"Because they are human too." Ashton got up abruptly, grabbed his plastic plates and threw it in the nearest waste bin. He was about to exist the cafeteria when he saw a pair of brown eyes on him from the cafeteria doors.
Her eyes made glances between him and the seat he previously occupied. Her face was blank of emotion but all he needed were her eyes which were so disapproving. He knew that she thought he was one of them and he thought back to when Jemma had used the word, us as though implying him as well.
He couldn't be one of them. He just couldn't.
