A Good Impression - Chap. 2
Isabelle's POV
One morning, Isabelle woke up to the sound of her mom yelling up to her 2nd floor bedroom, asking if she was almost ready for church. She panicked and jumped out of bed, ran to her closet and quickly grabbed a dress, then ran downstairs. Normally Isabelle would be awake at 7:30 on a Sunday morning, that way she would be ready to leave for church with her family at 8:30, however, the night before she had trouble sleeping and must have slept through her alarm. She rushed down the stairs with a hair brush in one hand, and a pair of shoes she was trying to put on with the other. When she reached the bottom of the steps, she noticed her entire family-- her mom, dad, and sisters, Elise, Rose, and Maria-- were all ready to heading out the door.
"What took so long?" Isabelle's mom asked, "You still have to feed the dogs," she added.
Isabelle let out a groan and rushed to feed the family's 3 dogs while her sisters and dad were waiting in the car. Without another word, her and her mom left the house and got in the car to go to church. When she entered the church building, she was quickly greeted by her aunt standing with a tall, blonde boy. "Isabelle, this is Andrew. He's about your age and will be with you in teen class today," Isabelle's Aunt Caroline told her. "Hi, nice to meet you," Isabelle quickly said before rushing off to class to set down her jacket and phone. Normally Isabelle would've put in more of an effort to be welcoming, but her tired mind was far too busy trying to function enough to live through class. Just then, Lizzie, Isabelle's best friend, and the only other teenager that was normally in teen class, walked into the building. She came in only minutes before church started, so the friends greeted each other, and went to class.
By then, Isabelle had nearly forgotten about the new guest, but was soon reminded when he walked in and sat on the second of three rows of chairs in the small room. Isabelle glanced over her shoulder to really take in his appearance. He has his curly blonde hair slicked back, and his eyes were like a mix between ice and the ocean, unlike most blues she'd ever seen. As soon as they started class, Isabelle said to the youth pastor and his wife,
"I am very tired and I apologize for any time I am kind of zoned out." Sadly though, they seemed to forget all about the last 16 words she had just said, and proceeded to immediately give her several verses to read out loud. Isabelle attempted to read one but only ended up stumbling on some of the words, ones that were hard to pronounce due to the old origin of the bible. Seeing her struggle, Andrew jumped in and started reading for her. Isabelle couldn't help but smile, but only listened quietly. Once he was finished, she turned to him and gave him a smile, a silent thank you for stepping in when her own mouth seemed to fail her.
After an hour of laughing, when class had been dismissed, Isabelle grew to like Andrew quite a bit, even though she hadn't known him long. He was kind and liked to tease and unhealthy amount, but he was charming in his own way. Smart, his confidence levels breaking through the roof, yet despite all those good qualities, he somehow succeeded at being a bit of a jerk. Isabelle was just hoping he would continue coming so she could get to know him better. Luckily for her, he did. He continued coming for a couple weeks to church on Sunday then soon started coming to the church's prayer meetings on Wednesday as well.
One Wednesday, Andrew came in on the dot as usual, but he had another boy with him. His brother, 1 of 11 of his other siblings. The other boy was a bit shorter than Andrew, his hair was much darker but had a somewhat similar hairstyle, his eyes were just as dark as his hair, behind a pair glasses.
His name was James. She soon learned that he had a different personality as well. James was sweet and goofy, but him and Andrew did have their similarities, like their sense of humor. Isabelle was very glad to have some new friends to hang out with and she did what she could to get to know them as often as possible. She noticed though, that she seemed a bit more drawn to Andrew, but she assumed it was because she had more thing in common with him than she did with James.
The day of the church's Thanksgiving party/dinner had come and Isabelle was very excited to be spending time with Lizzie, but to her surprise, it turned out that Lizzie wasn't the only person she wanted to be around. After the dinner, Isabelle noticed Andrew was playing with an adorable blonde, curly haired little girl, his sister, Hazel. Isabelle, at first just wanted to play with the cute little toddler since she had always been great with kids, but after talking with Andrew for a while as they played with Hazel, she decided maybe it wasn't just his little sister that she wanted to spend time with. That night, they continued talking and playing with Hazel...
...when Isabelle suddenly realized how connected she felt to him.
