51.5 ⊱ To My Country
A/N: To make the readers understand the message I wish to convey from my reply letter, I shall first post here the English translation of a fictional letter entitled, "Liham ni Andres Bonifacio kay ka Oryang" which means "Andres Bonifacio's Letter to Comrade Oryang". The original version is written by a Filipino playwright, Eljay Castro Deldoc.

Oryang, my love,
You're wrong. I did not meet you only for me to turn right and you to turn left at the end of the road. For wherever our cause takes us, you are the only one whom I will repeatedly stand with in front of the red flag. We did not exchange stories only for the last period of the very last phrase to be followed by a ringing silence. I will tirelessly sing to you our national hymn, Oryang. I will never run out of words so I may offer them to you as poems. Even whispers and sighs will convey my affection to you who also love our country. We did not laugh together, then share a look, and laugh louder only for pearls of tears to well up in our eyes as our laughter wanes. Even if the Lord wills it that we be separated from each other, remember that the laughs and shouts of our comrades are also my own. You should not miss me because I will remain with you. I did not embrace you over and over only for you to feel me leave as my arms unclasp from around you. I will forever be true to our vows, Oryang. From the moment I swore in the name of country, we will remain partners, soldiers, and heroes of our love. We did not build memories in the morning, noon, and night only for you to think, in your next waking moment, that we will not be together as we fight in this war. I may not hold any sway over tomorrow, but I want you to remember my promise that I will always choose to live and die to prove you wrong. And should I face our son Andres, I will face him with full conviction and tell him that you're wrong. I did not give a greeting at the beginning only to say goodbye in the end.
You are my country,
Andres
(*** Context: A fellow comrade gave this letter to Oryang a few nights after Andres was killed.)
