Planning - Chapter 43
~Switch Perspective (Saihara POV)~
As Kaede and I walked into class, we took our seats assuming that this was going to be a pretty normal day. After talking together for a bit, Mr. Harada walks in as well with his usual bland expression.
"Hello, class. I hope you had an alright weekend." he began with a typical bored expression. We've all pretty much got used to his lack of enthusiasm to teach, I really have to wonder why he's still a teacher here. "No important announcements today except for the fact on Thursday and Friday we'll be having a cultural festival."
...
"Huh?!" a lot of us yelled out.
"I'd think that's pretty important!" Keebo placed a hand to his chest as he called out.
"Jeez, calm down. Everyone was alerted today. We have all class to decide what to do." he scratched the back of his head with a yawn.
"All class?!" Shirogane yelled out with a confused tone. "What about learning?"
"You really wanna learn?" he raised a brow.
"N-No."
"I don't see the need to teach anyways." he shrugs. "It's a weird policy. We just gotta teach you something every day."
Teaching is a weird policy for school?
"Apparently parents complained." he sighed as he continued ranting "Saying focusing on developing talents won't help them in the future. Even though it will; if you graduate from here literally every job or college would you want you." he emphasized on the 'literally.' "I guess in a way, they're right."
"Huh?" I asked.
"Nothing." he scratched the back of his head as he avoided the question. "My main point is that I don't necessarily have to teach. As long as you perform okay in tests, we'll be fine. If you guys get done early, I'll teach. You can't work on your event anyways until after school..." he focused his attention on Kaede after his speech. "Anyways, class rep, how about you take it from here?"
"Huh?" Kaede picked her head up to focus upfront. "U-Um... I think it's a fun idea and I'll help out any way I can."
"Great. Because we need a topic of what to do." he tosses a piece of chalk to her as he sits on his chair. He leans back and puts his feet up, quickly falling asleep. Akamatsu awkwardly laughed as she went to the front of the class.
"Wow, our teacher is so reliable!" Oma laughed.
"No, he's really not!" Keebo argued.
"Jeez, be nicer to your teacher. Are robots really that heartless?"
"How rude, assuming I'm like that just because I'm a robot!"
"So you're just a bad person in general?" Oma grinned. "Gotcha."
"No!" he fumed.
"Shut up for a second!" Akamatsu shut up the two bickering students. "A class event, huh..? What can we even do?"
Mr. Harada opened one eye. "Oh yea, forgot to mention. They're mixing the sports festival and the cultural festival. So while us teachers set up the sports events, you kids can set up your own attractions at the class."
"What?!" Keebo tensed up in shock. "You should've told us that at the start!"
"You haven't even discussed yet." Mr. Harada pointed out.
"W-Well-"
"Yea, just shut up Keebo." Oma rolled his eyes, playfully hitting the robot's shoulder (though it didn't do much harm).
"Anyways, you're first years so you don't gotta do much. You can ask your upperclassmen to help with events but you only have to work on your own performance. Like a play or something." he yawned. "At the end of the day, the judges will analyze whichever performance is the best and give them a trophy or something. Didn't really pay attention to the meeting. At the other sports slash cultural festival in spring, you can run your own events."
"Two of these shits this year?!" Iruma groaned. "That's too much fuckin' work!"
"Why can't we run stands on our own? That contradicts what most other schools do, yes?" Shinguji put a hand up as he questioned him.
"Not my rules." he yawned. "Maybe it's so that the first years collaborate or something. If you're running different stands, you won't experience the growth of youth. Or so I'm told."
A perfect explanation, huh?
"Thank you, Mr. Harada!" Kaede gave a bright smile as she looked at the class again.
"Mhmm." he hummed before quickly drifting to sleep again.
"What do you guys want our class to do?" she pointed the chalk at all of us, waving it around.
"Arm wrestling tournament!" Momota suggested, flexing his arm.
"I'm kinda surprised you didn't say anything about space." Shirogane placed a hand to her cheek in bewilderment.
"I changed my mind." he raised his hand again. "Stargazing exhibit!"
"It'll be day." Tojo pointed out.
"Shit." he put a hand to his chin as he continued thinking. "We put stars on the ceiling and we lay blankets on the floor so they can watch!"
"Oo, great idea Momota!" Oma put his hands up in excitement.
"Hey, thanks!" he smiled happily.
"Yea, maybe next we'll give them their bibs and their favorite blankies to match with the baby baby activity this is!" he threw his arms behind his head, snickering as he leaned back in his chair. Momota gritted his teeth in response.
"Fuck you."
"I-I'll just write that down as an idea." Akamatsu awkwardly laughed as she quickly wrote it down. "I have an idea!"
"Shoot." Harukawa replied.
"Piano lessons from all of us! I can teach you the basics and you can teach it to them."
"Literally no one will want to do that." Oma shot down her idea fairly quickly as he looked at his fingernails. Akamatsu pouted as she swung her leg in disappointment.
"Org-"
Tojo quickly cut off Iruma. "Perhaps we could do a banquet? We could serve to people that come in and give them a meal."
"Uh, mom," Oma rolled his eyes, "that's a you thing, not ours. You're the one who serves us, we don't serve anyone else."
"You male, that's too rude!" Chabashira seethed and tried to lunge at him but the maid simply grabbed her arm so she wouldn't do anything brash.
"No offense taken. I won't want to go through with it if not everyone supports the idea." Tojo frowned slightly to show her disappointment but she acted calm as she usually did.
"Apologize right now!" Chabashira yelled but Oma responded by putting out his tongue in a smug fashion. The Neo-Aikido master threatened to break from Tojo's grasp but she just held tighter.
"What about a maid cafe?" I suggested, raising my hand. "You can serve food then."
"Nice, Shuichi!" Momota gave me a thumbs up. "It's a man's fantasy to see girls in a maid uniform..." He had a content smile on his face as he crossed his arms, nodding slowly in approval of my idea. Harukawa cringed as she scooted her chair away from the astronaut.
"...Saihara, I expected better from you." Chabashira gave a disgusted expression as Tojo finally released her. I winced in fear to the idea that I would be the one she would throw instead of Oma.
Immediately after, Shirogane stood up with much force. The chair slammed against the desk behind her as she stared at the ground. She seemed the most offended by my suggestion (which surprised me). I thought she would be the one to support my idea the most. Isn't there a bunch of fictional material that uses that trope?
"Saihara!" Shirogane turned to me in a fit of rage. "You can't do that, literally every anime does that! It's an overused trope!" she pointed at me with aggression, making me flinch. "If we're going to do something, it has to be unique! We can't do something basic like that or I will literally die!"
"S-Sorry." I stutter, awkwardly staring away. I dismissed the idea completely. The cosplayer gave a satisfied smile as she sat back in her seat.
"Yea Saihara, we all know you wanna see Akamatsu in a maid costume, we get it." Oma teased, letting out a quick exhale in disappointment.
"Anyway," Momota luckily changed the topic, "what if we actually do serve something? Doesn't have to be food. Can be anything."
"Yea, let's dissemble Keebo and put his parts on display for a hefty price." Oma suggested with a smirk.
"How rude!" the robot seethed. "I'm not some item for you to just sell! At least appreciate my functions as an exhibit, not this!"
"Yea, I loaded that ass with some kickass stuff!" Iruma cackled, getting up to slap his ass in the process but winced in pain once her hand connected with the hunk of metal.
"Momota, I shall expand on your idea!" Yonaga clapped her hands over her head with a smile. Immediately, we winced in fear of what her suggestion could be. "What if we were to display some works that we made through our talent for everyone to observe!"
"Wow, that's actually a good idea on your part, Yonaga." Momota scratched the back of his head. "Thought for sure you'd do something creepy."
"Thanks you!" Yonaga's cheerful smile turned into an overbearing one as her eyes started to dim. "And then once they see my art piece, I can ask for a blood sacrifice as a price for being blessed with the presence of one of Atua's wo-"
"Nevermind." he quickly cut her off with a pale face.
"Hoshi? You have an opinion on this?" Kaede turned his head towards the former tennis pro as he blankly stared back.
"I don't care either way." he shrugged as he chewed on a candy cigarette. "I'll go along with anything."
"Come on," Oma hummed, "we don't wanna do anything you don't want to do!" he said in a feminine tone, presumably to mock Kaede's tone of voice.
"I really don't have a preference on what to do."
"Okay, moving on then." Oma quickly turned away from the boy.
"I think it's a good idea to do something that involves our talents though, like Yonaga said." Amami suggested as he put his arms up. "Then, we can do what we all want in a way that befits us."
"I agree with that." I nodded. "If we find a way to incorporate all of us together while showcasing our talent, it'd make a better experience for all of us."
"Thanks."
I gave a smile and a thumbs up to him.
"When'd you two become friends?" Chabashira tilted her head. We both shrugged while Oma laughed in the background (for some reason).
"Good idea." Kaede smiled but then looked up to think, placing a finger on her chin. "What would we do with all our talents though?"
"A lecture showing the beauty of all our talents!" Shinguji suggested as he threw out his arms.
"No one will come. No one cares if it's something as boring as a lecture, that's what class is for." Oma sighed, shaking his head in disappointment. "These ideas are so boring... Plus, don't you remember? If we showcase all our talents individually, that wouldn't make it much of a class event, righttttt?"
"Wait..." I suddenly had an idea pop in my mind. "What if we did a performance? I mean, uh... A musical performance."
Kaede turns to me suddenly with an excited grin but quickly composes herself with a cough. "Y-Yea, that's a pretty good idea." she said, nodding quickly as she wrote the idea on the board. It was clear she wanted to do this...
"Wait..." Gonta looked up as he thought, "how music performance include all our talents though? Gonta not quite understand."
"I mean... What if we were to make a song while everyone else showcases their talents in the background?" I suggest. "For example, there's music goes on while we showcase the best of our talents. For example, Momota flying a fake spaceship in the background to match the music or something."
"Hey, I like the sound of that!" the astronaut cheered.
"How would... How would I do it?" Kaede leaned her head forward in eagerness to my response.
I chuckled as I continued explaining, "Of course, you can play piano."
She pumped her fists in excitement. She clearly wanted to go with the idea but stopped herself before she could get too hasty. "But um... Is everyone else okay with the idea?"
They all nodded, muttering incoherent chatter as they were all talking at once.
"I have a question though." Keebo raised his hand. "So... How are we gonna add to the music?"
"I was more thinking that Kaede plays music while we all perform in the back." I place a finger to my chin. "Of course, some of us can add effects to add to the song but we can figure that out as we go."
I then noticed how I had almost everyone's attention. Their eyes were focused on me. Everywhere I looked in the class, there was a pair of eyes on me.
But...
They were eyes that were looking up to me- not in a way that stresses me out but rather in a way they were interested in my ideas. And of course, they were my friends so I felt less stressed out.
"Are we making our own song?" Momota tilted his head.
"Yea... I feel it'd be lackluster if we used an old song." I say with a smile.
"4 days to make a song, huh?" Tojo put her hand to her mouth. "Is that even possible?"
"We can!" Kaede quickly reassured her. "It won't be perfect but... I think I can make a song that'll sound good. Plus, I've gotten some experience lately making my own song! And, if we're using Shuichi's idea, we won't be focusing on the song by itself. It'll distract from the flaws of the song because we only made it in a few days."
"Nice." Momota smirked. "We have a kickass idea! They'll be amazed by our performance."
"Yea but," Keebo scratched his chin (even though he was a robot), "we only know one performance. Akamatsu's."
"You guys know mine!" Oma raised his hand with a mischievous grin. "While Akamatsu is playing on stage, I'll-"
"-bring in your secret organization and mess up everything, right?" Amami continued for him.
"Wow, exactly! I'm glad Amami knows me sooo well." he gave a passionate grin to the adventurer. "Can I crush your balls?"
"Well, that's a little strange to say, isn't it?" he gave a slight smile as he shrugged.
"Anyways," Tojo dismissed the discussion between the two quickly, "let's plan out what we all shall do during the performance. We'll figure it out later after school. Thank you Saihara for giving a starting point, you made us get a good start." she gave a slight smile.
I humbly scratched the back of my head with a slight smile. "It's no problem."
"Saihara still suggested the maid cafe so what if this is something suspicious?" Chabashira leered at me.
"Nyeh... I don't think so..." Yumeno tucked a strand of hair behind her ear with a sigh.
"Okay, I don't think so either then!" she changed her mind rather fast.
"We should probably wake him up now." Keebo suggested to Kaede, in which she complied. She walked up to our sleeping teacher.
"What do you mean!?" Oma groaned. "We can use this time to slack off and do something other than listen to his boring lectures! Like testing what happens if we ask Keebo to divide anything by zero."
"Do not compare me to a calculator!"
"Mr. Harada." Kaede shook our teacher up and he gasped as if he had been sleeping for years. "We're done discussing."
"Huh?" he rubbed his eyes as he sat back up. He looked around to take in his environment but then sighed as he understood where he was. "Oh right, I'm teaching. School event, right?"
We nodded.
"Cool. Well, we can proceed with class then." he turned his chair around to write something on the board.
"...You're not gonna ask what we're doing?" Kaede asked him.
"Huh?" he turned his head back. "No. I'm not helping out, so. I don't need to." After answering, he went back to writing on the board. Kaede sighed as she walked back to her seat, next to me.
"I wonder when Mr. Harada will care about us..." she ranted to me as she rolled her eyes.
I simply chuckled in response, "Maybe he'll come around someday."
"I hope so." she whispered back with a smile as she began to focus her attention at the front. I almost got distracted just looking at her before I noticed Momota smirking at me, which made me focus on the front as well.
...
~Switch Perspective (Harada POV)~
After an amazing session of teaching, I went to the teacher's lounge to have a break. It was the only time of the day when I could actually relax. I still don't understand why I accepted this job but at the end of the day it's the only source of income I have. I can't exactly quit.
Most of the other teachers rarely use the lounge as they're with their classes. I mean, I get it if you have a strong bond with them. I don't mind at all, it gives me some time to myself-
Nevermind.
I opened the door to look at Yukizome and Yoshino sitting at the table. I casually scoot myself to my desk, tossing the papers I'm supposed to grade to take a quick nap.
Or at least, I was supposed to.
"Harada, what's your class doing for the cultural festival?" Yukizome asked me, leaning in close to hear my answer.
I opened one eye as I reply. "Don't know."
"How do you not know?" she sighed, shaking her head. "You should pay attention to your students more, this is just the height of their youth. They need a teacher they can look back on with joy." she then looked up with a smile. "Also, learning more about your students helps with the curiosity. Perhaps there's already romance blooming. Have you noticed any relationships yet?" she teased me, she knew I wouldn't know that answer. Maybe Saihara and Harukawa have a thing, I'm not too sure.
Though, Saihara and Akamatsu call each other by their first names... And Momota calls Harukawa a nickname and she calls him by his first name. In addition to that, I can't imagine Saihara and Akamatsu not together, they're almost inseparable.
...Probably doesn't mean too much.
"Woah Harada, I didn't know you were that much of a lazybones!" Yoshino announced. I instinctively covered my ears.
"Too loud."
"Hey, what did you expect from the Ultimate Commentator? I can't help it!" he grinned proudly, placing his hands to his hips.
"I'm not that bad. I still teach them and grade things occasionally." I insist, trying to shut my eyes more but they continued to talk to me.
"But Harada, I'm serious. You should talk to your students more. Having a teacher is a one-time thing they can have, and it'd be bad if they think back to it as a negative experience. Especially because this is Hopes Peak, they have you for the next 3 years." Yukizome advised me. What is she, my mom?
"Listen, I got it under control." I sighed. "They won't have a bad year, they'll have good youth as you call it. I got a good class rep to keep them in control." I leaned back in my chair as Yukizome shook her head. "I don't have to be a part of their experience."
"That's why you're... A rotten orange!" she pointed at me with an annoying grin.
"I don't even know what that means." I cringed.
"Anyways Harada... I already know what our class is doing." she begins with a smile. "Of course, we're gonna win."
A vein popped on my head in anger. I composed myself quickly as I closed my eyes. "Nice. You won't though."
"Oh, but we will." she with a boasting smile. "My class will win the sports festival and have the best performance." Another vein popped.
"No way." I stood up quickly. "Don't underestimate my class, Yukizome. Don't dismiss them just yet."
"Ohh, what's this?! Is Harada gonna use his secret technique and eliminate Yukizome for good?!" Yoshino circled around us.
"Nah, but we're making a competition." I quickly look at the housekeeper with an irritated look. "My class will win."
"And I say mine will." she crossed her arms with a smirk. I don't know why, but she seemed happy with my challenge.
"And... I'm tired." My legs collapsed as I fall onto my chair. Yukizome's eyes widened as she stares at me.
"Are you okay?!"
"Yea. It's just... Got 3 hours of sleep today and I wanted to sleep at the lounge. Didn't think you two would be here today to interrupt my nap time."
"Sorry." she laughed awkwardly as she sat back to her desk. She then stares at me with an eager smile. "I'm excited to see what your class has to offer. After all, you're the-"
"Please don't continue." I cut her off.
"Alright, alright. Sorry." she apologized as she went back to what she was doing. Yoshino did as well (though more reluctant because he wanted to see things unfold).
...
~Switch Perspective (Akamatsu POV)~
"-and that's why Pluto isn't a planet anymore, Oma." Momota finally ended his 20-minute lecture to the supreme leader.
"I don't get it... If it's round, it's a planet, right?" he replied, tilting his head as he placed a finger on his cheek. "Like the sun!"
A vein popped on Momota's head.
"Momota..." Saihara finally had enough. "He's just messing with you."
"Seriously?!" Momota groaned in frustration. "Why didn't anyone tell me sooner?!"
"Admittedly, it was pretty funny." I teased him, putting my hand up as I continued laying my back against Shuichi's arm.
"Listen..."
Suddenly, Mr. Harada slammed through the door making us jump. His footsteps filled the room as we focused our attention on him.
"Class..." he faced us with determined eyes, slamming his hands on the table. "I'm going to perfect whatever the hell you thought up. We're going to have an amazing performance at the cultural festival. And we're gonna win."
The sudden rise of motivation within Mr. Harada only left me with one word, "...Huh?"
A.N: Originally, this chapter was gonna be longer but then I needed to publish and I realized I had to submit an essay by today LOL. also I promise shorter chapters anyways so here we go.
I have no idea how japan school works LOL. let's just say that in fall, there's a festival where they make exhibits and they have to do sports events. they have a week to set it up and they can stay after school to do so. sports festival will be on Thursday while they will examine the exhibits everyone has set up on Friday. also yes, we're not using the japan schedule because I don't understand how it works so it's just December is winter break, march is spring break, and june is summer vacation. It's like a combination between America and Japan. :)
oh yea also this festival is a good excuse to finally add some FLUFFY SAIMATSU THAT WE'VE ALL BEEN WANTING
GREAT
look out for the next chapter coming with the fluff you've been missing out on.
