-Chapter 13, a mix of accidents-
*Hello my dear NSR fans!
I'm here with another chapter, trying to make it up for the times that I wasn't here.
BUT ANYWAY!! I hope that you will like this chapter!
I finished saying all that, so let's start!*
-Y/N POV-
"So!" I said while clapping my hands together. "Now that we are here in the kitchen let's just start making something. Does anyone of you have any experience baking?" I said while putting on an apron.
The two just looked at one another, then Zuke slowly lifted his hand.
"Great! At least one of you knows a little! That's a good start." I said, smiling at Zuke not noticing the loving half-smile he gave me. "I thought of making small easy-to-make donuts. Something so yummy, and dough-able might be a great start." I continued while I noticed that Ace put on a small apron with stitched blue patches, which in fun fact was made by our mom since he was so clumsy at the time. The childhood memories of us soon came flooding me.
I was waiting on the kitchen stall, and my brother put on the same apron, that fitted him at the time, in the same kitchen, with a woman that smiled at our anticipation. Her face emitted such warmth and she picked us up so lightly, that people wouldn't even realize that she was slowly losing control over it at that time. My brother always helped us at that time, mostly to lick up all the leftovers from spoons that we used.
But obviously, that is normal since we were kids.
I shook my head and went to grab the needed stuff, all that while Ace helped me with some that were on higher shelves for my stature. I then put all of the ingredients at hand
"Ok, we have the flour, baking powder, obviously, salt, oil, buttermilk, butter, vegetable oil..." I was looking at the ingredients feeling as if something was missing. Then it hit me "Oh, right! Can't forget the sugar!" I was turning to get the sugar but was stopped to see West holding the sugar higher than Zuke's reaching ability.
"West cut it out! We need it for the doughnuts!" Zuke said while aimlessly flinging his arms trying to reach the sugar from his older brother's hand.
"Hey! I'm just helping you become taller! You should thank me for this!" West just gave them a playful smirk as they put it higher and higher until... It slipped from his hands.
It felt like it fell in slow motion since it was way too sudden, but luckily Ace caught it just in time. I sighed in relief as I went next to my brother to put the sugar on the table.
"Why did you do that?!?" Zuke stated. "The sugar almost fell and broke! What would you have done about it??"
"Relax bro, it didn't. And it was your fault for not reaching it." West calmly stated.
I noticed how Zuke was about to lose it so I wanted to change the subject of all this ruckus.
"Anyway, now that we have every ingredient, it's time to start making the doughnuts!" I happily said as I clapped my hands together. "I'm gonna go and preheat the oil, while you two-" In this part, I point at Zuke and West "gonna mix the dry ingredients and the wet in different bowls. Ace, can you watch over them just in case?" And here, I gave my brother a pleading look.
"Aye, aye captain." They said, giving me a salute, showing that they indeed understood and going to take care of them.
I went to grab a deep saute pan and filled it with oil to fry the dough in it. Then I put it on the stove and turned it on to medium heat. Finishing I was about to turn around when I heard crashing and my brother yelling to be careful. Because the action I did was done fast, I was surprised at how quickly it occurred. (Y/N... Even though I rarely speak like this in the chapters, but...I'm more at a loss for words for how slow I need to make Y/n react to even understand what happened... But anyway-)
I witnessed the guys, covered in the dry mix, and especially, Ace's apron was now covered in the wet mix.
"What did you even do in this short amount of time?!?" I speed-walked right next to my brother, examining his apron to see, whether or not it happened anything with it.
My brother started to speak. "Weeeell..."
-A couple of minutes before-
-Third POV-
All three guys were doing their thing; Ace watched them while they did their stuff, West was mixing the dry ingredients while Zuke was in charge of the melted butter and buttermilk. As an outsider, you might have judged that it was peaceful if it weren't for the fact, that the big guy slowly started to get an idea of his own which was soon seen (this one sounds fun, "soon seen" cX/ ) by the grin that was spreading on his face.
"Hey Zuke, look at this," West said as he started to mix it way too hard. Flour and sugar went everywhere and he even bumped his hand with Zuke's, making the boy drop the bowl.
Ace quickly went to grab it only to fall onto his apron.
"Guy's be careful with this!" He yelled at them.
-Present time-
"...Aaaand that's basically what happened during that short amount of time," said Ace, as he watched his older sibling redoing the dough for the pastries. They didn't say anything, they just looked at the three guys, after they finished with the work, followed by the excuses of the brothers, which soon was followed by the bickering of the two.
Though that verbal fight slowly died down, when they sensed something...off. Something missing that they wouldn't have realized being there before missing it.
"...It's ok, I will go and clean the apron up before putting the dough to the fire," Y/N said as they smiled and grabbed their brother's hand, going with him to the bathroom.
The two brothers looked at each other and needed to agree on one thing.
Y/N's smile wasn't real.
-Meanwhile with the L/N siblings-
Both of them were in silence as Y/N brought a wet cloth to wipe off the mess that the guys made.
"...Are you ok?"
-Y/N POV-
"...Are you ok?" I heard my brother ask, as I was deep in thought while cleaning.
I quickly looked at him, an apologetic smile forming on my lips.
"Me? Why wouldn't I be ok? This is just a small spot of wet and dry mixture anyway. I-" I was slowly starting to ramble without noticing before Ace, stopped me.
"You know what I mean." He said as I looked at him, noticing his serious expression. My mouth closed as I was stopped in my tracks.
My face from the smile that I emitted turned to one of neutrality. I was unable to express what I felt like as Ace continued to speak.
"Making donuts together was a nice idea. But I know that you only suggested it because it was Mom's solution to our fights. It wasn't your idea." He said. "You need to know that you can't recreate Mom's memory with them."
I looked at him a weak smile forming on my lips. "I was already aware of it." Was the only thing that came out of my mouth. I was unable to say more than that as guilt and sadness loomed over me.
I wrapped my hands around myself for comfort as I looked away from him. He quickly noticed it though and tried to say something before my look quickly turned brighter.
"Besides, doughnuts are delicious either way! Even if it doesn't help, it's still pretty reassuring." I said as I looked back to the blue apron and continued to clean it.
"... If you say so," Ace said before I heard him walk out of the bathroom, leaving me and his apron there.
Trying to clear my mind, I continued cleaning it.
-Third POV-
As Ace walked down the corridor he was thinking of the many things his sibling went and did in regards to their mother.
They took after the cafeteria by themselves,
She went and kept every single stuff about his mom intact, without changing anything,
Made sure they did the Mother's Day tradition,
And along with many others.
It almost made them wonder when does she have time for herself.
As they entered the kitchen they got face to face with surprises.
Donuts we're already prepared on a plate with paper underneath to dry out the leftover oil from the pastry,
A clean kitchen, and not a single spot from the accident.
The only place that wasn't spotless was the walls he soon turned to look and with bewildered eyes he stared at what the two guys were doing before as well.
Fighting.
"West, don't clean it so recklessly! There are pictures that you should be careful with!" said Zuke as he snatched the cloth from his brother before he quickly took it back!"
"Reckless? More like quick! Without me, all of this," at this part he put his arms in the air, signing that he meant the whole kitchen, giving Zuke a sly smirk. "Would have been done later."
"Quickly?" Zuke laughed sarcastically at that. "You almost broke a lot of things during that quick preparation. Not only did I need to look after the pastry in the pan, but at your flying pots as well!" He said looking at him with an angry expression.
As the two siblings bickered, Ace noticed how their hands got closer and closer to a frame hanging on the wall.
A frame that their mom hung a long time ago and was still up there in its glory.
He tried to quickly go to their side, warning them in the process.
Both guys looked at Ace as they unknowingly knocked the frame of the wall.
*Crash*
The sound of shattering was echoing through the place as the guys just looked at each other. Ace looked with pure shock and the brothers looked with worry in their eyes. They didn't have time to react or pick up anything as they suddenly heard the sound of quick steps coming from the corridor.
-Y/N POV-
*Crash*
As I something breaking I quickly ran towards the source of the sound. As I stumbled to the kitchen, I gasped.
On the floor there it was, my mother's favorite picture.
(This was made by a different platform. With my finger... I have no idea what to say. Also, my god, Y/N and Ace when they were younger. Oh yeah, and the mom too. :D)
It was a picture in black and white where of me, Ace, and my mom during one of our baking sessions. The glass of the frame was in pieces as it lay on the ground.
I just stared at it, before slowly feeling the wet sensation of my tears, rolling down my cheeks. I bend down to slowly pick up the remains of the glass and the paper picture as more tears came to my eyes.
I wiped my face as I felt eyes digging holes in my back.
"...I think we're done here... I'm sorry for bugging you." I said as I walked out of there.
-Third POV-
As Y/N walked away from the kitchen the three boys stared at one another. Especially Zuke and West as they both looked at each other, feeling guilty as they noticed the girl's expression. (I felt weird writing girl in this part, idk why)
"...I think you should go." Said Ace to the guys as he put the donuts in a bag for them to take. While all that he wasn't looking at them.
"I will talk to her later. But you should also find time to apologize to her. It was kind of bad since she invited you two over." Said Ace as he showed them the exit.
"Thanks, Ace." Zuke thanked as West was only able to nod before going.
The brothers were walking in silence before Zuke looked back as if he was hoping something would happen.
West stopped in his tracks as he followed where his younger brother was looking at. Sighing he mustered up the courage to speak up.
"Look, I'm sorry for what I did. And I will understand if you will hate me even more than before..."
"No... This one was on my part as well." Zuke admitted as he looked at him. "I was pretty irritated to talk and work with you already and I guess... I got the worst of myself out."
"...Were even then?" West asked, before showing his hand out, looking as if he is waiting for a handshake.
"...Sure, why not." Zuke was slowly reaching for West's hand before he quickly raised it.
"Sike! Too slow!" said West, before running off, leaving a yelling Zuke behind.
-Back at the L/N's place-
Ace was walking towards Y/N's bedroom. In his hand, there was freshly squeezed lemonade and an ugly sandwich. He knocked on her door waiting for an answer.
Nothing.
He slowly opened the door, peeking behind it.
In the room he was able to see a giant blanket mountain, sometimes shivering. Knowing who that is under the pile of blankets he walked into the room.
"... You were right. I shouldn't have done that. It was stupid recreating that memory." said a sad Y/N.
He looked a little troubled having no idea what to say, before noticing the photo that had its frame ruined. He picked the picture up.
"I still remember what happened after this picture," Ace smirked. "It was the first time I made you eat the dough up while you had your braces."
Y/N looked up at him as she looked frustrated. "Yeah, and it was the words experience ever. It took me hours to get the dough out of my braces."
"Yeah, but it was pretty worth it. You looked hilarious in it," said Ace, before getting a light kick on the back. He laughed at that.
Feeling as if the tension eased a little he continued.
"You know that mom made this for the two of us in mind, right?" he said. "Even though Mom is not here, this thing can go on. Just with a few changes, since now it can be our thing."
Y/N looked at her brother. "Like?"
Ace smiled at his older sibling. "Making other stuff in the kitchen!" he said as he handed her the sandwich and the lemonade.
Y/N looked at the lemonade before taking a small sip, coughing it right up.
"I... Kinda need some lessons too," said Ace a little awkwardly.
"No kidding," said Y/N in between coughs. "This is the nastiest lemonade I ever tried."
"Heeeey! At least compliment me for the effort!" pouted Ace, before both he and Y/N started to laugh.
"Sure, thanks for the ugly sandwich, Ace." Joked Y/N before laying her head on Ace's shoulder. "And out of the joke: Thank you, Ace."
Ace looked at his sibling before putting a hand on her shoulder. "Anytime."
*AAAAAAND THAT'S IT!
