"You're sure you can't come to school today?" Chase asked me after what seemed like the millionth time

"Yes, I have to train today remember? I still have to somehow try to get my lightning powers back," I spoke, grabbing a water out of the fridge as Chase sat on the counter stool

"You know you're just as good without your lightning powers right?" Chase spoke, I smiled lightly at him

"I know, but I can't defeat my enemies without it. So I'm giving it a few more months. If it doesn't come back, I'll give up. But till then I have to keep trying," I explained, packing the water in my bag

"Just... be safe alright? Don't exhaust yourself," Chase spoke

"I'll be okay, besides the two guys helping me are my age. I trust them," I spoke

"Wait, the people helping you get better are teenagers?!" Chase shrieked

"They know a lot about superheroes! They were the ones who made the clutioniam safe for me, and they saved my life multiple times. I trust them," I defended

"Do they have any medical experience?" Chase asked, I gave him a look

"Chase," I said sternly

"I'm just worried about you!" Chase defended

"And I get that, but you also have to trust me. Maybe one day these guys will save your life to. You never should judge a book by its cover. But I have to get going, I'll pick you up after school and we'll go do something. Whatever you want okay?" I spoke, walking around the counter and kissing Chase on the lips

"Did I ever mention I'm glad you're somewhat older than me?" Chase smiled as we parted, I chuckled

"You might have mentioned it once or twice. I'll see you after school okay?" I spoke

"Be safe!" Chase called as I left the house, I chuckled as I closed the door and smiled

He's literally so perfect

If that's the case, then why can't I just say 'I love you' without choking up?

"You what?"

"I choked! I had the words ready to say and I just said 'I'm so lucky to have you' instead of the other words," I groaned

"Girl, you've got it bad," Sam chuckled, I groaned and put my head in my hands

"I know!" I cried, rubbing my hands over my face

"Do you think.... maybe you're scared?" Sam asked, I looked up at her

"Why would I be scared?" I asked

"Have you been thinking about Dad recently?" Sam suddenly asked, my gaze moved towards the floor

"A little..." I mumbled

"Are you...? Are you scared your relationships gonna end up like Dad and Moms?" Sam asked

"What?! No!" I gasped, looking up at her

"Then what is it? Scarlett whatever it is, I'm sure Chase doesn't see what you see," Sam comforted, placing a hand on my shoulder, I sighed and fiddled with my hands

"I killed Dad... I mean, I know he was evil but I never killed anyone before! Even the worst villains I faced I never..." I trailed, a few tears rolled down my cheeks, I slowly wiped them away

"I never killed anyone before. And I had no hesitation, I should have hesitated! He was my Dad! I should've..." I sniffled, till Sam brought me into a hug

"It was not your fault," Sam comforted, "Dad was cruel, and if you hadn't done something we'd still be blind to the fact that he was evil. Scarlett, you're our hero, you saved us."

"But I took his life."

"You have to look past that—" Sam began and I pulled myself from her grasp, standing up from the chair

"I can't! Can't you see I can't! What if I tell Chase that I love him but he can't say it back because I'm a murderer! Or what if it's because he doesn't love me the way I love him? I've lost a lot within the past few months and I can't lose him to! I-I just can't!" I cried, a sob escaping my throat and my voice cracking a little

Sam immediately stood up and hugged me, I hugged her back as I cried lightly into her shoulder

"I know you haven't been in love before, and for some people it's easier to say 'I love you.' But for others it's harder. I haven't been in love yet, but Mom told me a lot of what it's like. You shouldn't be afraid of what Chase will say. If he really loves you, he won't think what you think of you. Stop letting your mind cloud your judgement and use your heart," Sam comforted, breaking us apart a bit as she wiped away my few tears

"Because your heart has your decision, Scarlett. Now it's time for you to figure that out."

"Again."

"Oliver that was my fourth simulation today. I think we've done enough for today," I spoke, stepping down from the simulation and sitting in a chair, opening a bottle of water

"Not even a spark! Not a single vital spike movement! What gives?" Oliver groaned, typing in something furiously on his tablet

"Maybe something just has to trigger it?" Skylar suggested

"That might work! When Scarlett first discovered her powers it as when Nightro tried to kidnap you!" Kaz exclaimed

"Kaz I was a baby then..." I pointed out

"Yeah, but maybe you just need something to trigger your abilities back," Kaz suggested

"Like what? Claire and TJ are off the grid. The person who threatened my family is frozen in a block of ice. The other person is buried in a pile of rubble. I just don't see something triggering my powers any time soon," I sighed, tossing the empty water bottle away

"But she did earn a new power. And she has improved with it. She can make them hover around her, she can even throw them at incredibly far lengths without even making contact with them!" Skylar explained

"But it won't be enough to defeat Claire and TJ," I sighed, leaning on my knees from my chair

"Maybe we just need to give it another try. Maybe there's more you can do," Kaz suggested

"I don't think so, Kaz. The best thing I can rely on is my fire abilities. While the clution crystals are great, they won't be enough. Maybe in the future but not now," I spoke, then my phone went off

Picking it up it was my alarm to leave so I could go get Chase to go get frozen yogurt

I was literally going to get only toppings, even tho they had lactose free frozen yogurt I really just wanted toppings

"I gotta head out, thanks for you help today guys. Same time next week?" I asked

"Well..." Oliver began, Kaz shot him a look

"We agreed to keep quiet!" Kaz harshly whispered

"Keep quiet about what?" I asked, the two looked at me afraid and nervous

"What happened?" I asked, the two looked at each other, silently arguing before turning back to me

"Guys, seriously what's going on?" Skylar piped up, standing by my side with her arms crossed

"Okay," Oliver sighed, "with all these clutioniam injections we've been doing... we're running low on clutioniam. We've got enough for a few more injections... but if we don't see any results in your lightning powers..."

"Then there gone forever," I popped up, Oliver nodded sadly

I really had hope that these powers would return

I really believed if I put my all in it they would come back

"So you caused Trent to lose his opportunity to graduate with Davenports smarty-pants glasses. Then helped him graduate, but now he's our gym teacher?" I asked, twirling around the toppings in my bowl with a spoon

"Yep, that's how my day went," Chase sighed, taking a bite from his yogurt, I laughed

"Oh, that's funny! You had it coming!" I giggled, wiping a tear from my eye, Chase gave me a playful glare

"You know he's your gym teacher now to, right?" He quipped, I playfully rolled my eyes

"Yeah, but he's probably way more upset with you and Leo than he would be with me," I smirked, popping some toppings in my mouth

"Fair point," Chase muttered, I chuckled

"But how did your training go? You've been avoiding the topic a lot," Chase spoke

I mean, he wasn't wrong, I didn't really wanna talk about it, but it might help getting it off my chest

"No improvement with my lightning. My crystal powers have improved though. So I guess that's something," I sighed, fiddling with my toppings in the bowl, my appetite suddenly gone

Chase then reached over the table and took my hand in his, I looked up and him and he smiled

"I know you've been trying hard, you've practically let this training become your main focus. But don't be so hard on yourself, I know your frustrated but your Scarlett Anderson! The toughest and smartest person I know, you will come back from this," Chase reassured, I smiled

"I thought you were the smartest person you know?" I teased, Chase rolled his eyes playfully

"Well, you're a close second."

"Hey!"

"But, with or without your lightning powers, your still amazing. Don't doubt yourself, okay? Cause at the end of the day, you'll still be the toughest person I know," Chase finished, squeezing my hand lightly, I smiled

"Thanks Chase. I don't know what I'd do without you."

"Well I am the smartest person on the planet."

"I will leave you here."

"You wouldn't."

"Bite me."

"Gladly."

"Chase!"

The next day, Chase, Leo, and I were sitting on the bench talking. I was catching myself on anything else I missed that Chase didn't tell me. Suddenly, we heard a whistle blow behind us and we turned around to see Trent walking towards the three of us.

"Let's go, short and shorter! Time to sweat till you cry!" Trent smirked

Chase rolled his eyes and said, "It's not even gym class."

"Now that I'm here... it's always gym class." He whispered in Chase's face before blowing the whistle again and walking away.

I turned towards Chase and Leo and said, "You guys really poked the bear."

"We know!" Leo and Chase groaned

Then Bree walked towards us. I felt so bad for her. Apparently, Bree got her hair done for her yearbook photo, but Adam burnt half of it off. Then Davenport made her this hair cream that would allow her hair to grow back, but Adam ended up putting all of it on. Let's just say Bree's hair grew a little too much and she ended up looking like Chewbacca for her yearbook photo

"Hey, we saw the yearbook. You take quite the photo, Hairy Mary," Chase chuckled

"Yeah, the junior class just renamed you señorita Sasquatch," Leo grinned

Bree just chuckled and crossed her arms, saying, "Eh, I'm not too worried. People are going to forget all about my picture when they see what I did to Adam."

Right on cue, we heard Adam yell from outside, "Hey, Bree! I don't know where you got that hair gel you gave me..."

Then disco music began to play as he walked in. My jaw fell to the floor when I saw that he now had a large afro. He finished, "But I'm lovin' it!"

He danced his way over to us. Once he reached us, he lifted up his arms and revealed very hairy armpits

We all turned away in disgust as he yelled, "WOO!"

"Ahh!" Leo said

"Ohh!" Chase cringed

"Eww!" Bree said

"My eyes!" I shouted

He set his arms down, but I knew that the vision of his pits were going to haunt me for the rest of my life.

"I'm out of here, I think I'm gonna be sick," I commented, walking away from that scene

Why couldn't I have been absent today? I could've missed Adam's hairy freak show!

Authors note!

Guys I'm so so so sorry that this is up really late! I'm still sick and managed to basically sleep a whole day and looking at a screen made me feel even worse, but today it got a little better so I tried my best to finish up this chapter.

I'm really sorry once again and I hope to have the last chapter up tomorrow!!

That's right everyone, the last chapter will come out by the end of the week, I don't care how many pills I have to shove down my throat I will finish this book by the end of this week!
