Tease
"What's your favourite sweet?"
"What?" Marinette looked up from where she was pinning Adrien's trouser cuffs. She had three days to get this outfit sorted for their summer photoshoot and she was very behind.
"Your favourite sweet? Not like a sweet dessert, just sweet in general. Liquorice, jazzies, twizzlers, Haribo? "
Adrien was standing in just his trousers, on a plinth and eating a child size packet of Haribo. Of course, being a model even this was pushing limits and she was quite sure if his father walked in at this moment the sweets would be taken off him and thrown out the window.
"Um," she stood up from her crouched position and looked at him, not realising her face was level with his finely sculpted abs. "Haribo cola bottles are good, or the fried eggs. The teddies are a bit of a let down though."
"Yeah," Adrien agreed, "the one flavour doesn't do it much good."
Marinette giggled and poked him in the stomach.
"You should put those down if you want to keep these."
"I'll have you know, my workout regime is flawless and this teeny tiny packet of Haribo won't cause me any problems." Adrien continued taking the sweets out and placing them in his mouth.
"You can be such a child sometimes," she placed her hands on her hips and smiled at him.
After the final attempt at 'Operation Secret Garden' it was as though there was a change in their relationship, but only for the better. They spent a lot of time together now, in and out of work. Now she'd moved on, Marinette could proudly say Adrien was one of her best friends. The stammering had gone, as had the constant need to be near him. It probably helped that he still didn't have a girlfriend. She knew that it would sting a little when it was announced, it was only natural. However, she had her own relationship now with Chat Noir and even though it was a secret, she loved him. She loved her partner so much, she could finally say she'd moved on and she was happy.
"Here, open up." Marinette was now adjusting around his waistline only to be attacked by a cola bottle being shoved in her mouth.
"Adrien? What the hell is on your hands?"
"Hand sanitizer, sorry. I perhaps shouldn't have shoved my whole finger in your mouth." He laughed at the disgusted expression on Marinette's face.
"At least I know you're clean." She giggled, "thank you for sharing your contraband by the way. I know cola bottles are one of your favourites too."
"You're welcome." He smiled as she looked down and continued with the adjustments.
Adrien continued to eat the sweets one at a time leaving his favourite favourite until right at the end. He pulled out a red and green ring, and as he went to put it in his mouth he stopped. That was it ... he had the most brilliant idea.
My Kitty: Good evening beautiful. I hope you are ready for this evening's patrol. Would it be ok for one final stop at the top of the Eiffel Tower? There's something I've found that I think you'll like.
My Lady: Exciting! What is it?
My Kitty: Nope, not telling. It would ruin the surprise.
My Lady: Just a clue please *cute face with kitten eyes*
My Kitty: You're a ladybug, not a cat!
My Lady: I still have a cute face though :P
My Kitty: That you do. One clue then. Tonight you're going to get frosted.
My Lady: Frosted? What?
My Kitty: You know sometimes you're a gem.
My Lady: That's nice and all, but what do you mean frosted.
My Kitty: You're my sweetheart.
My Lady: That's really sweet, but what has this got to do with frosting?
My Kitty: A girl just stopped me in the street for a photo. Do you ever get jelly? Because I'll have you know, I'm very attractive on the other side of my mask.
My Lady: Chat, stop teasing and tell me.
My Kitty: Ok, for once in nine years just trust me. It'll be worth it.
My Lady: I've always trusted you, Chaton, but I want to know what it is.
My Kitty: See you in an hour, Bugaboo.
My Lady: Don't you dare leave me hanging.
My Lady: Chat?
My Lady: Kitty?
My Lady: Oh come on!!!!!!!
My Kitty: Just on my route, see you at the top of the Eiffel Tower.
My Lady: Fine! But this better be worth it!
It was definitely worth it.
As Ladybug made the last of her rounds she could see a faint glow from the top of the Eiffel Tower. One that isn't usually there. It was flickering on and off as the faint wind blew around the area. The forecast was relatively calm for the evening, with a warmth which only came from a spring evening. It was so close to summer the air was becoming electric with possibilities and the evening's were drawing out. It was nine in the evening and the sun had almost completely set. Only a faint line of red surrounded the horizon as the moon made its appearance.
She landed lightly on the railing at the top of the tower. Herself and Chat were the only two to come up here, unless maintenance was taking place. The view into the city was incredible, and it was times like this they found themselves blessed to be superheroes.
"Hello," she shouted, jumping down from the railing. Candles were positioned in two lines edging around the platform she was standing on, red rose petals scattered in the middle. "Chat?" She tried again.
Suddenly, a black kwami flew right into her face.
"Plagg?" Ladybug questioned.
"I have been sent to direct you to your one and only. He's waiting at the end of the red rose road." Plagg said.
Ladybug looked again at the decorative pattern in front of her and she saw it. The red rose path was lined by candle light. She couldn't help but giggle. So this was 'the' surprise Chat wanted her to see.
"Tell him, he's a sap, but I am on my way."
Plagg nodded in response and went to fly back to his chosen, only to spring back at Marinette and hug her face.
"You won't regret this Bug. He will make your life wonderful with all the love he has in his heart. You're always been the only one, please don't hurt him."
"I never could, Plagg. I love him too." The kwami smiled and released her face.
"Thank you, for everything."
She cupped him in her hands and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, before releasing him to fly back to her partner.
"Here goes nothing."
Her heart was pounding against her chest as she began to walk down the freshly created path.
A couple of steps down and she noticed a sign. A piece of paper with beautiful handwriting. It looked familiar, but she couldn't place it. It wasn't like she saw a lot of handwriting these days, only numbers on measurements.
She was the ying, he was the yang, they grew with each other's differences and that's true love - Sylvester Monutt
Carrying on walking she spotted the next one.
Love is a meeting of two souls, fully accepting the dark and light within each other.
Each note caused her heart to beat more rapidly. Each note contained a notion of love, a heartfelt quote about the yin and yang, about their love for each other.
We're not meant to be perfect, we're meant to be whole.
There is nothing better on this Earth than a soul you can connect with on every level.
She finally reached the last note as the candles spread out into a circle running around where she was standing.
On the other side of me, there's you.
The note was attached to an incredible bouquet of white roses. She gasped, picking them up and feeling their weight. They were perfect but very expensive by the looks of it. How could he afford something so magnificent? She began to panic that he'd gone overboard. She didn't need all of this. She was happy to just be with him.
"I hope you're going to accept them this time." A voice behind her floated through the breeze and she could hear the nervousness in his voice.
"I hope you haven't got into debt with all this, Chaton, you know I don't need the extravagant displays of affection. I just need you."
Ladybug turned around to look at the face of her beloved, to find him down on one knee. Ring box in his hand unopened.
"My Lady, I promised from the first day we met and you stood up to the first Hawkmoth that I would love whoever was under the mask, I just never realised how in love I would actually be. You mean everything to me, you've been the sun guiding me through my days, making sure I was the best I could possibly be. We may have had our ups and downs, but we've always worked through them, and now we get to work at the best part of our lives together. To work on being a family. I can't wait to call you my wife, to wake up with you everyday, to love you, to argue with you, for you to tell me to shut up when my jokes get too bad."
Chat looked into her glassy eyes as she hiccuped a laugh. Her hand was placed over her mouth and he knew she was trying not to spill the tears.
"You are the best part of me, and I thank Master Fu everyday for putting us in such a ridiculous position at thirteen because that meant I met you. We've grown together and there is no way anyone else could have fit into our relationship, it would always be me, you and them. When we were eighteen we made a deal-"
He opened the box and her eyes widened, only for her to let out a huffed laugh. In the box sat a red and green Haribo sweet ring.
"Yes!" She squealed, moving towards him. He took a step back and threw his head back in laughter.
"I haven't proposed yet, but at least I know you're not with me for my money."
"You're telling me that wasn't a proposal? What the hell was that then?"
Her face was perplexed and he found it the funniest thing ever. For the first time in his life, he had her where he wanted her, so of course he had to keep her on her toes.
"Well, if you're going to be like that?" He took the ring out the box and popped it into his mouth. "It tastes good!"
"You ate my ring! You monster!" She crossed her arms over her chest, and looked away. That was her engagement ring he just ate.
He started laughing again before moving closer to her, pulling her left arm free and placing her hand in his. He went down on one knee again.
"Ladybug we made a deal at eighteen, and thanks to you agreeing to my ridiculous plan I get to ask you this. M'Lady, will you marry me?"
"Well you ate my ring, so I'm going to have to reconsider it." She was still looking away, and spoke with a shrug of her shoulders.
"Would this help?" From his belt he pulled out a second box. This one was longer, more a necklace box than a ring one. She turned her head as he opened it in front of her.
Inside was a beautiful, classic, Princess cut diamond ring attached to a chain.
"It's beautiful," Ladybug gasped as her tears began to flow down her face. Chat smiled, happy with the reaction the ring had caused.
"Tikki gave me your ring size."
"Why is it on a chain though?" She asked.
"Nobody knows about us yet, plus I want to put it on your ungloved finger," his hand went to the back of his neck and he began to rub. "So I was hoping I could propose again, before the wedding service, just after we've revealed. That gives you a second chance to pull out if you want."
Chat was the sweetest thing. She wrapped her arms around him, placing a kiss on his lips in a soft gesture. What had she done to deserve such a man?
"Or, will it give me a second chance to fall in love with you all over again?"
Pulling the necklace from the box, Chat moved her hair out the way and attached the ring around her neck. Staking his intentions to the most wonderful woman he'd ever met.
