Put On The Suit.

"Steve!" I say as I run to catch him up down the hall.

"Ma'am." He stops allowing my to fall into step with him, his polite manner making me giggle.

"You can call me Clara, Captain." I say with a smirk.

"Clara, my apologies old habits are hard to break." He says with a smile.

"That's alright. I can only imagine what it feels like to try and adjust to a new time, and then we throw aliens at you."

"Yeah, like you said. It's a bit overwhelming." He says with a breathless laugh.

"I'm sorry about Tony. I would say he usually isn't this bad, but well, he's not a big fan of SHIELD, and when they're involved he has a tendency to become a bigger ass than usual."

"If he isn't a big fan of SHIELD, how come you joined? Why's he here now?"

"I...well I had to join, it was an ultimatum I was given, and at the time it was my best option. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being an agent, but recently things have been different. I have a feeling Tony's doubts have more truth to them than not."

Not missing the strange look he gives me at the beginning, he doesn't interrupt and just nods as we walk farther down the hall, passing by agents—causing me to pause my explanation.

"As to why he's here, I don't think anyone could answer that. As you've seen, Tony does what he wants."

"I can tell. After knowing the kind of man your father was, I wouldn't have guessed your brother would be so different." I cringe, knowing Tony made it a personal vendetta to be the polar opposite of our father.

"Well, you see–Tony and our father didn't have the greatest of relationships when we were growing up. They never saw eye-to-eye. On anything."

"And what about you and Howard? I'm sorry, you don't have to answer—it isn't any of my business."

"No it's alright, he was your friend. I'll try and answer any questions you have." I say with a smile.

"Dad and I had a good relationship. Being Daddy's little girl definitely had its perks, but then I developed a—condition and even though Dad was being helpful and supportive... I felt it was too much stress on our family. And I mostly locked myself in my room, focused on my studies and that was that."

I say rubbing my arm out of nervous habit, not looking at him. Suddenly I feel him gently place his hand on my shoulder making me look up at him.

"Hey, I'm sorry you don't have to talk about it, really. I understand." He says with a charming smile and I feel as though I can tell him my secret, but if aliens overwhelm him what would that do to him..?

"Thank you, Steve. It's nice to be able to talk about Dad, how he was as a person not just a scientist. I haven't been able to talk about him or Mom for years."

"Well, I'm happy to listen. It was strange waking up, and knowing all my friends had likely passed away, so being able to talk about something familiar is comforting." He says with another smile.

"Well, I'm here to help. Either talking about then and learning things now, you can come to me." I say with a smile causing him to smile back.

"Thank you. I appreciate that. Do you really think Fury is hiding something?" He asks getting us back on task.

"It could be a possibility. Like I said, I don't know much, but in the last year or so things have seemed different—more secretive." Stopping outside of a storage unit, I grab Steve's arm stopping him from moving further.

"Here. Let's have a look shall we?" I ask with a mischievous smirk, and swipe my card into the card reader, waiting for the light to go green.

Once the doors open, Steve and I walk in to the room, searching through the crates, not really finding anything of interest. We head to the upper level finding, old dusty crates with S.S.R. stamped on them. Steve and I look questionly at each other and he slowly lifts the lid, and I gasp seeing what's inside.

"Oh no..." Steve angrily grabs the gun, slamming the lid shut and we head back to the lab to tell the others.

"What's Phase 2?" Tony asks while looking at the monitor, Director Fury standing in front of him and Banner.

"Phase 2 is SHIELD uses the Cube to make weapons." Cap says dropping the rifle onto the table, really pissed off now.

"Sorry, the computer was moving a little slow." He says towards Tony, as my brother stares wide eyed at the weapon.

"What the hell Nick? I was told there was no weapons operative?" Disbelief flooding into my voice, this was insane. We're supposed to protect people, not create weapons of mass destruction...

"Rogers, Stark. We gathered everything related to the Tesseract. That doesn't mean—"

"I'm sorry Nick. What were you lying?" Tony says, turning the monitor around showing the plans for new Tesseract powered weapons...

"I was wrong Director. The world hasn't changed a bit." Steve says, everyone officially pissed at Nick—myself feeling betrayed.

I've devoted how many years of my life to SHIELD, and I'm still being lied to.. Nat walks into the lab with Thor behind her, watching Banner like a hawk. Did she know about these weapons?

"Did you know about this?" Bruce and I ask at the same time.

"You wanna think about removing yourself Doctor? Agent?"

"Oh no. I'm quite enjoying myself here thank you."

"I was in Calcutta. I was pretty well removed."

"Loki's manipulating you." She says, she knew about this, and anyways how would Loki know about Bruce?

"And you're doing what exactly?" Bruce asks, everyone's eyes on him, not ever seeing him this angry.

"You didn't come here because I bat my eyelashes at you."

"And I'm not leaving because you suddenly get a little twitchy. I'd like to know why SHIELD is using the Tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction."

"As would I." We all look toward Nick for an explanation.

"Because of him." He says pointing to Thor, who looks completely shocked.

"Me?"

"Last year Earth had a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that leveled a small town. We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly-hilariously outgunned."

"So being the bigger gun, is the better idea?" Fury gives me a glare, but says nothing.

"My people want nothing but peace with your planet." Thor says, trying to amend the unnecessary grudge Fury is holding against him.

"But you're not the only people out there are you? Not the only threat either. The world's filling up with people who can't be matched, who can't be controlled." He says, sneaking a glance in my direction.

"Like you controlled the Cube?" Steve accuses.

"Your work with the Tesseract is what drew Loki and his allies to it. It's a signal to the other realms that the Earth is ready for a higher form of war."

"You forced our hand. We needed to come up with something." Nick defends...this should've never been an option.

"Right, a nuclear deterrent, cuz that always calms everything down." Tony butts in finally having enough.

"Remind me again how you made your fortune Stark?"

"That wasn't our initial decision. And anyways, we shut it down!" I say defending myself and my brother.

"I'm sure if he still made weapons Stark would be neck deep—"

"Wait, wait! Hold on! How is this now about me?!"

"I'm sorry. Isn't everything?"

"Really boys. Can't we be a little more mature than this?" I say only to be ignored in their chest match.

"I thought humans were more evolved than this." Thor comments from his side of the room, arms crossing his chest.

"Excuse me, did we come to your planet and blow things up?" Fury says, spinning around quickly to confront the Asgardian.

"Are you all that naive? SHIELD monitors all potential threats." Nat adds, not like that makes this better.

"And apparently hires them too?"

"Wait, Captain America is on a potential threat list?" Tony says with a sarcastic smirk. "You're on that list? Are you above or below angry bees?" He says to Steve, and I can see his hands tighten into fists, this won't end well.

"I swear Stark, one more wise crack..."

"Threatening! I feel threatened!"

"Seriously Tony? That's enough! You're both acting like children!" I butt in, wedging myself between the two oversized toddlers, while trying to keep myself calm as well.

"You need to step away."

"Why shouldn't the guy let off a little steam?"

"Cut the shit Anthony!—"

"You know damn well why! Back off!"

"Oh I'm starting to want you to make me."

"Big man in a suit of armory. Without that, what are you?"

"Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist." Tony says making me roll my eyes.

"Oh please." The testosterone in the air is insane...

"I know guys with none of that, worth ten of you." Steve says as they step closer together.

"I've seen the footage. The only thing you really fight for is yourself. Never one to sacrifice yourself. You may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero."

"A hero? Like you? You're a lab rat Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle!" He sneers, Steve succeeding in hitting a nerve.

"Alright. Back off, both of you!" As my anger increases I see equipment on our tables start to shake, making me step back and try to calm down. Again.

"Yeah this is a team.." Bruce says what we're all thinking.

"Agent Romanoff, would you mind escorting Dr. Banner back to his—"

"Where? You rented my room."

"The cell was only needed if—"

"If you needed to kill me. But you can't! I know, I've tried."

Suddenly the room is plunged into silence, ceasing every argument that was going on. I definitely wasn't expecting that...at least not Bruce it of us all..

"I got low, but I moved on. Helped people—" the computer beeps catching everyones attention once again.

"Bruce..."

I say as I check the computer only to get ready close to the ship. This can't be good...before he can make it over an explosion rocks the Helicarrier, creating a hole in the floor and throwing me into my brother.

"Put on the suit!" Steve yells.

"Yup!" They both help me up and we head out of the lab to the rooms where our uniforms are kept.

*Sorry I cut some of the dialog short...this took me a lot longer than expected. Thanks again for reading! :) *
