Floo

A/N- Sorry for the long wait! Update on my personal life at the end of the chapter!

Sirius's POV

The fact that Number 12 Grimmauld Place maintained it's flooded state over the following day and a half, was a fact I noted with no small amount of joy as I sat down, discreetly hidden from Molly's view. She was making herself busy, rounding up the stragglers from the earlier Order meeting in an final attempt to dispose of the water. Really, after the second attempt a day earlier, there was no use in the continued effort. There were only so many spells that one could uses over and over again without results before giving up. Apparently Molly's limit was twelve, hopefully.

On the bright side, which really was every outcome of the flooding, Molly was moving the kids back to the Burrow. This was convenient, as Madam Pomfrey had just finished healing the rest of Harry's injuries and the Burrow had a quittiditch pitch. I wouldn't accuse Molly of playing favorites, but this change of plans was certainly in my godson's favor. And mine as well, because while I had to sleep at the flooded house, I didn't have to live there.

I allowed myself to wait, in the presence of Molly's last futile attempts of vanishing the water that had made itself at home, for a few minutes. It was raining outside Grimmauld Place, which wasn't unusual as it was in London, but I hoped that the weather wouldn't be a deterrent to Harry's family visiting again.

I appreciated having a set of parents around that weren't condescending like Molly often acted. Arthur was likable, but he was passive to Molly's authority. It was nice having a different perspective.

Tapping my fingers against the table, I wondered if they were going to show. After a few moments, I stood up, straightened my robes out and moved towards the Floo. There really was no point in wasting my time waiting when I could be hanging out with— supervising— my godson. I paused for a moment, thinking about how the Muggles would react to quidditch, when a sharp knock accompanied by muffled voices sounded from the front door sounded throughout the room. I made an about face and turned towards the door.

"-They all seemed very pleased about that conversation."

"Should we have informed Harry about our 'talk'? They're his family—"

"—By blood. There's more to it than that."

I carefully opened the door, expecting to see anger on their faces during this clash of opinions, but instead I was met with curious, considering looks. Paul looked at Percy for a moment, brows furrowing and eyes narrowing slightly at his stepson in a calculating look, before blinking roughly. He shook his head rapidly as if attempting to clear it and ruffled Percy's hair with a smile on his face.

"Come in," I finally acknowledged, waving the family through the door, "I apologize for the flooding," I added, noticing Sally's awkward waddle through the water.

"Oh, it's really no problem," Sally assured smiling at me before sending an indecipherable look to Percy.

"Have you tried magicking the water away?"  Percy asked loudly.

I looked at him, feeling my eye brows rise and my chest tighten slightly as I held back an undignified snort at the idea. Of course we tried magic.

"Yah know..." he offered further explanation, waving a hand in a circular motion as if it added to his point, "Like 'Bippity Boppity Boo'?"

The water receded back into the plumbing (which was a shame, really) taking with it much of the debris that had previously littered the room. Hysterical laughter bubbled in my throat and I forced it back down.

This kid, who supposedly had no magical ability, had just caused all of the water to retreat. His mother looked at him, eye brows raised and lips turned upward while his stepfather stared wide eyed. I opened my mouth and then closed it, twice, as I attempted to find my words. This endeavor was ultimately unnecessary, as Percy looked around the room and began to speak again.

"Where is everyone?"

"The Burrow," I said, gesturing towards the Floo.

"They're in the fireplace?" Sally questioned, incredulously.

Well, I decided as I began my explanation concerning the Floo- and more importantly how it related to the Burrow, there was certainly something fishy going on with this families gap of knowledge concerning the magical half of the world. And, if I were to help them, well they were Harry's family—that's just what family did.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

I ended up sending them through the Floo in pairs: Percy and Paul followed by me and Sally. Just a slight precaution to assure that everyone landed as safely as possible in the correct place. It was a tight squeeze—but it was the same way I'd shown Lilly years ago.

Sally straightened, brushed the soot off her shirt, and moved further into the room, towards Paul and Percy. The family looked around in unrestrained wonder, eyes wide like saucers and mouths agape, as they watched the dishes get washed in the kitchen. It took me a moment to understand their awe- considering that the Burrow differed from typical homes, with all of the clutter, but it wasn't anything spectacular. But, to a muggle...

"That breaks the Laws of Physics," Paul noted, sounding dazed.

"You know which ones?" Percy questioned, his tone teasing.

"I'll take Newton's Laws of Motion for 500," Sally answered for him, not sounding concerned in the slightest.

Molly moved out from within the kitchen with a tea pot and saucers to greet her guests. The dishes from the lunch she had just served continued putting themselves away behind her as she left the room. Sally nudged Percy in the side with her elbow, causing Percy to scrunch up his nose, as they watched the dishes swiftly fly back into the cupboards.

Molly set the tea down on the table and motioned for Paul and Sally to sit down as she exchanged warm pleasantries with them. Percy hovered for a moment behind them, before Molly summoned another tea setting and gently pulled him over to another chair next to his mother. She looked momentarily tempted to send him outside with the rest of the kids, but held her tongue. Just as I turned to show myself out, Paul cleared his throat, turned towards me and straightened.

"We've probably overstepped our boundaries," He began, forcing me to stop in my tracks.

"Y'know, just a bit," Percy noted absently, tapping lightly on his tea cup as he swirled the tea around.

"What they mean," Sally continues, sending a pair of sharp Looks across the table at them, "Is that we had a nice chat with the Dursley concerning Harry's guardianship."

"It's not resolved," Paul continued steadily, looking me in the eyes, "These things take time, but you have a few options now."

My throat was tight and my eyes suspiciously moist, as I collapsed into an empty chair across from them. Forget over stepping their boundaries— I couldn't believe that I had a chance to be a proper godfather to Harry. I vaguely saw Molly sit next to me and place a hand on top of mine. I blinked furiously, taking a moment to compose myself, and offered her a poor attempt of a smile. I momentarily wished Remus was there, he would've known what to ask, but then Molly spoke up.

"Why are these options suddenly available now, and not years ago when Arthur and I looked into it?"

Ouch—whose side was she on? Though I did have similar thoughts™️ on the matter...

"How much do you know about family law?" Paul asked in lieu of answering. Our silence must have been very telling because he continued, "It's a long and complicated system that we're still knee deep in at home-"

"-To make a long story short," Percy cut in, "We're challenging the Dursley's guardianship. Since they haven't filled out some of the proper documents, we are financially stable and Mr. Dursley cooperating to avoid a lawsuit... it shouldn't be difficult."

I opened my mouth, ready to question where I came into this mess, but Sally held out a hand, signaling for my patience as she picked up from where Percy left off.

"The best case scenario would be co-guardianship," she pulled out a stack of documents, harsh black words contrasting with the unusually white paper, and slid it across the table, "We went through all the technicalities, so you just have to read everything and get back to us."

"There's no rush," Paul added as I studied the large papers within the stack. Parchment didn't look nearly as intimidating.

"Thank you," I said, finally finding my voice, "You don't know how much this means..."

"I could guess," Paul said wryly, looking across the table at Percy momentarily.

Molly touched the documents lightly, dragging them closer to her, between us. She looked pensive for a moment, likely about to add her thoughts on on the matter, before standing.

"Why don't we head out to the quidditch pitch," Molly suggested, looking at Percy, "We can go through the details later, I'm sure the kids miss you out there."

This relocation was agreed to without a fuss, though I doubted that my apparent truce with Molly would last. And if I forgot to mention the that the flooding got cleared up, well, there were more important things in my mind at the time.

Thanks for reading!

Some pictures for your wait!

A/N- Personal life update! I've been stressed with school right now (I'm writing a scientific paper!! Just research right now but it's exciting!) among other papers and projects. I have a boyfriend <3 he's super sweet. On the bright side for you all, winter break is a thing and I'm getting my wisdom teeth out (all 4 of them) on December 26th.

I hope you don't mind this chapter deviating from my plans... but one conflict at a time isn't really my thing (hint, hint). We'll be back to the regular plot next chapter.

Do you prefer more frequent updates but shorter chapters or less frequent but longer? I don't want to skimp our on you length wise but I don't want to keep you waiting either.

Either way, happy holidays <3
