Ch. 3; The Discovery of Friendship

Chapter 3; The Discovery of Friendship (Heaven's)

~~Heaven's PoV~~

I walked right into her face! What a great first impression... Not! Ugh, why am I so dumb?! I hope I didn't hurt her too bad... She started crying. What if I hurt her?! Well, currently Brianna is unpacking. I'm sitting at the free desk I was given and bouncing my leg. I was trying to find something to draw, but it seemed almost impossible to find an idea. Then another thought; What if she doesn't like my abilities... I stared at the blank paper worriedly. I was the awkward shape-shiftier; the one that would never be able to hide who I was, the disgrace to my shape-shifting family. I was the only one who couldn't fully become an animal, I could only get certain parts of the animal, it's senses, a tail, ears, teeth. That's about it. I was a freak, not belonging in any societal standard. I never have, and I never will...

"Hey, Heaven?" Brianna called from behind me. I jumped and quickly swiveled around. "Did I scare you?" She frowned worriedly.

"No, no!" I smiled, waving my hands shyly. "What'd you need?"

"I just need help setting everything up." She giggled sheepishly. I nodded and stood, walking over to help.
It took a while, but we got the dressers positioned on either side of the given 'work' desks. Brianna took the top bunk, but we promised to share, so that was nice. She even let me put my star lights on the roof and along the walls in a kind of strait pattern along the roof. I'm not sure if that is a good description, but I like it.

Our desks shared a lamp, and both had our own chairs. The floors thankfully had carpet spread across them, but really it was hard wood. The desks had no carpeting under them, that's how I knew we had tile. We had our own mini bathroom in the corner, but no shower or dinging area. The shower's were in the main bathroom for the whole dorm; downstairs on the bottom floor. There was also a small dinging hall, but the main eating hall was where we checked in; as I said earlier. Breakfast was at eight in the morning, lunch at twelve in the afternoon, dinner at six in the evening, lights out at eleven, or earlier if we so choose, and no mixed genders in the dorms from seven in the morning to seven thirty in the evening.

"So, Heaven?" Brianna asked, we were seated on the mini couch we were provided and starring at the television we were given. I faced her curiously. "What's your power?"

"Tell me yours first." I grinned slyly.

"W-well... I'm an empath, which means I can feel people emotions..." She seemed hesitant, but I felt excited.

"Cool!" I grinned widely. She smiled, then looked at me expectantly. My smile faltered. "Well..." I sighed quietly, I hate explaining my freakish power. "I'm not really sure what you'd call it, but I have this weird sliver of power that only lets me shape shift partly, I'm a shape shiftier, so is my family. But... I'm the freak of my family." I frowned, staring at the ground. "They sent me here for three reasons, one; to figure out what was wrong with me, two; to fix it, and three; to hide my powers from the mortals." She didn't reply for a while, when she did she only nodded. I guess I should change the subject? "Hey, it's kind of late, maybe we should go meet my other friends and get dinner?" I offered shyly.

"That sounds nice." She nodded, a dull smile spread on her face. I smiled widely and pulled her towards the door.

~~Flame's PoV~~

"So you're power is mastery of the fire element; pyrokinesis?" Dylan asked, curiously. I nodded shyly. "Nice, I'm a projectionist, which means;" I felt myself one out as a strange feeling came over me and a weird image appeared in my head; 'I can do this.' It read, then within a flash I felt like my regular self. "I can screw with your emotions and thoughts." He smirked cockily.

"That's almost scary." I replied, blinking with surprise.

"I think it's pretty great." He grinned slyly, "easy to make people like you, if you choose to use it that way." He sighed, why was he being so cocky? "I'm not really one to abuse my powers though." He shrugged then there was a knock on the door, I went to answer.

"Hey, bro." Shadow greeted, Heaven and two unfamiliar faces stood behind her. I raised a suspicious brow as Heaven waved.

"Hey, guys." I greeted back. "What's up?"

"We were gonna get dinner." Shadow shrugged.

"Where is he?!" A random girl yelled as she stormed down the hall. We all looked over, confused. I heard Dylan yelp, then he disappeared. She stopped besides the girls in front of me. "Is this Dylan's room?" She growled. I glanced behind me then looked back.

"Nah, no Dylan here." I shrugged and shook my head. She gave us a suspicious look and stormed off again. Dylan ran up behind me and glanced down the hall, he exhaled with relief.

"Let's  go before she comes back!" He whispered yelled then shoved passed everyone and dashed down the hall. I looked at Shadow, she shrugged and we followed. Heaven was running and the other two girls were talking, they were walking in front of us and looked pretty shy.

"Which one's you roommate?" I mumbled, she pointed to the one on the left.

"Her name's Trixie, if you couldn't remember." Shadow replied, shrugging. Her hands were in her pockets, her shoulders were slumped and she was leaning back as she walked. It looked pretty uncomfortable if you ask me, but hey; that's how she usually walked. That was here 'I'm too cool for this place, leave me alone' walk. I nodded, Trixie glanced back; a suspicious look on her face. She seemed to be questioning one of us, but who; I couldn't tell. Shadow yelped and she toppled over. I paused and looked down at her, a board expression seated on my face. Trixie started laughing, Shadow glared at her as she stood. I could see mini black flames storming around her.

"Calm down, Shadow." I sighed, we began walking again.

"She tripped me!" Shadow hissed, pointing accusingly at Trixie. I raised a brow.

"Shadow, she was no where near you-"

"Telepath." Shadow muttered.

"Oh..." I nodded, glancing at Trixie she was grinning widely.

"Hurry up! The place is already packed!" Heaven yelled, she was standing in the door way of the main building. I glanced at my watch; six. "I don't think Dylan can hold our seats for long!" She yelled again, then disappeared inside.
We hurried, and were able to get our seats at a small table, in the corner. There was an extra chair, and I don't there were any spots left. A new comer came over, she reached for the chair. Shadow's eyes snapped towards her; she didn't want anyone else over here. The kid ran off with a squeak.
"Well, that was sweet." Heaven smirked, eating her fries. She went back to tapping on the table, some tune stuck in her head.

"She doesn't really-" I started, then the empty seat was pulled back and another girl sat down. Oh my good, so many females. Dylan seemed pleased. Shadow gave her an annoyed look.

"Sup? I'm Dassie." The girl greeted, then started respectfully eating. I opened my mouth to reply, but didn't get the chance.

"Dylan." Dylan nodded towards her, he went to eating is chicken nuggets.

"I'm Brianna." One of them waved shyly, a small smile shinning through. She looked pretty uncomfortable. Trixie's eyes narrowed at the other new comer. One of her fries floated up and onto Trixie's plate.

"Coool!" Heaven gasped excitedly. "Don't take my food, or I will tear each of you apart."  She threatened, giving us each a dark look. Well, I guess we know who's not as innocent as you'd expect.

"Try it, I dare you." Trixie growled, then stool one of her fries too.Heaven growled lowly as she stared at Trixie. My turn to cut in!

"I'm Flame." I threw a fry at Heaven and she calmed down. "The fighting pare was Trixie and Heaven and the one glaring is my sister; Shadow." I explained, I felt rushed for some reason. Brianna started to hurry with eating her food. I looked at her curiously.

"I have an idea!" Heaven blurted out, we gave her our attention. "We should say our powers!" She grinned excitedly.

"I'd rather not." Shadow grumbled, snarling. I sighed, clearly frustrated. I felt my body heat, Shadow gave me a warning look.

"Excuse my sister, she didn't get to sleep all day; so she's pouting." I glared at her.

"Hey!" Shadow hissed back.

"It's true!" I grumbled. We were both getting mad, Brianna seemed off too.

"Are you aware you're on fire?" Dylan asked, reaching towards my arm, I pulled away.

"Don't touch me." I muttered, he paused and leaned back in his chair. Shadow, Dylan, Brianna, and I were all pouting. Though, I'm not sure why Brianna was. Maybe she was trying to prove a point?

"I said stop taking my fries!" Heaven growled, standing. Her canines seemed to sharpen and she had caught the whole tables attention. Trixie held the fry over her open mouth, she had a slight grin of cockiness. My attention returned to Heaven, now there were ears and a tale. She seemed to freeze when she realized this, I guess.

"Make me~!" Trixie teased, then dropped the fry. Heaven was after her within an instant. The room seemed to silence as Heaven got Trixie pinned down.

"You're not worth my time." Heaven muttered, standing and dropping Trixie's collar. She grabbed her food and tossed them in the trash as she stormed from the building. Trixie was laughing the whole time. Well, this should be an interesting group...

~~Shadow's PoV~~

That was a lame fight! Trixie really is a jerk, but I guess I am too, so there's that. No one had gone after Heaven, but Brianna seemed to be expecting her return. Guess it's my turn? I stood, Flame gave me a confused look. I waved him off and walked out. Heaven was sitting exactly where I found her today; the side of the fountain. She didn't have those ears, or the tale, or the eye color change. She looked like the way she normally did; a human. The moon was out now, it was only six thirty; how disappointing. Heaven was staring at her feet that hung about and kicked. She looked like a pouting infant. I sat besides her and looked at the sky. I listened to the flowing water for a few moments and sighed quietly.

"What's wrong?" Heaven asked, her voice full of concern. That surprised me. I looked over at her, she was clearly worried or at least seemed to be. I smiled halfheartedly.

"Nothing, just came to get some fresh air, you know?" I tilted my head. She nodded, but looked confused. "Why'd you go off like that?" She shrugged and looked at the ground again.

"I dunno, my over reaction I guess." She mumbled. I nodded, man I'm not good at this stuff...

"I know the feel." I chuckled quietly. Is this working, hmm.. Doubtful. Heaven giggled;

"It's working." She grinned. I paused and looked at her, a probably terrified expression on my face. She laughed more and fell back into the water. I started laughing at her. Another few sets of laughter, I  looked over. Ah; our group of misfits has arrived. Heaven crawled out of the fountain and shook her hair out.

"Great landing, Heaven." Trixie teased, Heaven smirked.

"The best you've ever seen mate!" She pushed her hair back from her head and beamed with a smile.

Maybe I found some friends after all?
