Part 18

Jiae POV

"Lee Sungjong and Yoo Jiae! Come forward and receive the Royal Command!" Daeun announced.

How does she even know who the command is for. She hasn't even opened it yet. Sungjong got up happily and proceeded to rush forward. He would be happy considering he likes Daeun now. I, on the other hand, got up solemnly and walked forward slowly. Together, we both knelt and waited to hear the Royal Command.

Daeun opened the scroll and began to read "For over a thousand years, there has not been a Crown Princess to grace the palace. For that we are truly sorry. By the order of King Lee Sungyeol and Queen Jang Daeun, I hereby desolve the marriage tradition that has been passed down these thousand years and bestow marriage to these two." Daeun looked at me and smiled "I wish you both all the happiness in the world."

What the hell is going on? I was shocked to silence.

"I accept the royal command!" Sungjong happily shouted.

"Well, Jiae" Daeun addressed me. "Do you accept the Royal Command?"

I looked up in confusion. "I thought that you..."

She stepped forward and said "Sungjong has always loved you. You deserve to be together."

"But..."

"My heart belongs to another" she smiled. "So, do you accept or not?" she pressed for an answer.

"Of course I do!" I shouted and everyone cheered.

Sungjong helped me to my feet and then gave me a kiss. "I can't wait until we are married" he smiled happily. Then he turned to Daeun and said "Thank you" as he gave her a hug.

A saw a tear fall from her eye as they parted. Then she stepped back and said "I wouldn't have it any other way."

Hoya POV

Despite the happy news, the entire courtyard was still filled with confusion at the sudden turn of events. Everyone congratulated the couple as they made their way to their seats.

"King Lee Hoya" Daeun addressed me and I smiled.

"I don't recall giving you permission to call me by that name" I joked.

"Considering my position, couldn't you humor and old lady?" she joked back and we both laughed.

"How may I be of assistance, Daewangdaebi-mama?" I jested as I bowed respectfully while everyone watched on in confusion.

She giggled a little before regaining her composure and calmly said "I present to you the archives that were left in care of the temple by King Lee and Queen Jang. You are free to do with them as you please."

"Thank you" I bowed once more before giving her a hug.

"What the hell is going on here?" Soojeong screamed once again. "Why are you acting like she holds a higher position than you?" she glared at me.

"Because she does" I stated flatly. Her eyes widened and I could tell she was beyond angry at the situation. "I think an explanation is in order" I looked at Daeun and smiled.

Daeun walked over to Jiae and said "Would you mind coming with me? There is something I'd like to show you." Jiae stood up and followed Daeun out of the courtyard.

Once they were gone I addressed the entire courtyard "Everyone! I know you are all confused by what is happening. I was confused when I learned the truth too."

"What are you talking about?" Soojeong screamed. "What is going on?"

"Daeun is actually Queen Jang" I stated honestly.

"Queen Jang?" Soojeong's eyed widened again.

"That's impossible!" "What kind of joke is this?" "You can't be serious!" everyone started shouting.

"Please listen everyone" I raised my voice. "When Daeun told me everything, I didn't want to believe it either. However, she knew things that only Queen Jang would have known." I gestured to the chests that had been delivered and stated "If you can not believe my words, then take a look for yourselves. These archives, that have been stored at the temple for over a thousand years, hold the truth about Queen Jang. They were placed there so that history could unfold as it was meant to."

Everyone looked around at one another, afraid to make a move until Sunggyu stepped forward and opened one of the chests. He pulled out one of the scrolls and began to unroll it. Suddenly he stopped, shouted "Holy shit!" and dropped the scroll back into the chest.

Daeun POV

I knew the King would be able to handle the situation in the courtyard, so I asked Jiae to come with me.

"Where are we going?" she asked nervously.

"I need your help" I confessed.

"With what?" she was taken aback.

"There is one last thing I must do before I leave, but I can not do it alone. It is something only a true Crown Princess can accomplish."

We arrived at the Crown Princess's chambers and Jiae flinched "What are we doing here?"

"Please come inside and I will show you."

"What about the ghost?"

"She is waiting for us" I replied honestly.

"What?" she screamed nervously.

"She needs our help so that she can finally rest in peace" I choked up. "I can't do this alone. I need your help."

Jiae nodded and we both went inside "She isn't going to hurt us, is she?"

"No" Jiyeon smiled. "I will not hurt you." Jiae grabbed onto me when she saw Jiyeon. "Hi Daeun! How did everything go at the banquet?"

"What is going on?" Jiae was obviously scared. "How does she know you?"

"Jiae" I tried to speak soothingly. "This is Crown Princess Jiyeon." Jiae's eyes widened. "She and I have been friends for the past eleven years."

"So this is the girl that Sungjong likes?" Jiyeon smiled as she took a good look at her. "She's pretty!"

"Thank you" Jiae uttered nervously.

"She's going to look perfect once we get her dressed up" Jiyeon squealed excitedly. "I know the perfect dress for her!" she ran over to the wardrobe.

I looked at Jiae and asked "Are you ready to become the Crown Princess?"
