Part 13
Jiyeon POV
I watched as Sungyeol took Daeun by the hand and they both left my chambers. "I'm glad I was able to keep my promise to him" I smiled sadly.
Hours passed and before I knew it the sun had set. I never really paid attention to the flow of time till now. I wonder how much longer I will be here.
"Jiyeon?" I heard Sungyeol call my name and I looked up. "Jiyeon, are you really here?" he asked.
I walked over to my wardrobe and opened the door so that he could see that I was here.
Sungyeol POV
When the door to the wardrobe opened on it's own, I almost ran from the room in fear. I can't believe that she is still here.
"Jiyeon, I'm so sorry" I fell to my knees in tears. "I never meant for any of this to happen. I should have protected you when you were still alive" I cried. "How is it, that even in death, you are the one who is still protecting me?"
Once I had dried my tears and regained my composure, I stood up and walked over to the wardrobe. I gently closed the open door and confessed "I'm sorry that you have to bear this heavy burden. I'm sorry that I can't remain at your side through all the years you must wait for Daeun to appear. I'm sorry that the only thing I've caused you is pain and suffering. I'm so sorry that you will have to continue to suffer alone" I began to tear up once more. "I wish that I could have told you just how much I actually cared for you when you were alive. When I felt the whole world was against me, you were my only source of comfort." I took a deep breath as I tried to hold back the tears, but a single tear fell as I said the words I should have told her when she was alive "I truly loved you......with all my heart." I collapsed to my knees in front of the wardrobe and wept the tears I had been holding back for eleven years.
Jiyeon POV
Tears filled my eyes as I watched him weep for me.
"Thank you Sungyeol" I whispered in his ear even though I knew he could not hear me. "Your words are more than enough to get me through the many years I must wait for her to appear. Please know that I never felt as though I were suffering by keeping this promise to you. I could wait for a thousand years or more if that is what it takes to bring her to your side once more." Tears streamed down my face as I confessed "My heart has always belonged to you. It will always belong to you. I love you Sungyeol."
Sungyeol POV
Once I had finished telling Jiyeon everything I had always wanted to say, I slowly made my way back to my chambers.
"How has everything been?" I asked Myungsoo upon arriving.
"Everything has been well, Jeonha. There have been no disturbances."
"Thank you" I sighed with relief. "Tell everyone that they can take the night off and rest."
"Jeonha!" Myungsoo's eyes widened. "What if something were to happen?"
I could tell he was genuinely concerned for me. "It's all right Myungsoo" I smiled. "I want everyone to get as much rest as they can right now because, starting tomorrow, we are going to be very busy with wedding preparations.
"I understand" Myungsoo bowed and I patted his shoulder.
"Thanks" I replied.
Myungsoo turned around, gathered all the servants and left.
I took a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh. I never thought things would turn out like this. I walked into my chambers and smiled when I saw Daeun still sleeping peacefully in my bed.
Early the next morning, we walked to the pond together.
"Are you sure everything will be alright?" I nervously asked her.
"Yes, Sungyeol" she smiled up at me with tears threatening to fall from her eyes. "This is the only way."
I held her tightly "I don't want to let you go." As I pulled away, I gave her a kiss "You have to promise to come by the pond every day."
"I will" she choked as the tears started to fall from her eyes. Then she turned and quickly jumped into the pond.
Daeun POV
Saying goodbye to him was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. After finally returning to his side after all this time, it was heartbreaking to have to be separated from him once more. I know that it won't be for long, but that didn't make it hurt any less.
Once I returned to my own time, I quickly made my way down the secret passage Sungyeol had shown me. As I approached the King's chambers I could hear Sungjong yelling at the King.
"I don't understand why you like Daeun so much! I told you I don't want to marry her!" Sungjong screamed.
"I promised her father I would look after her" King Hoya calmly replied, but before he could finish explaining, Sungjong cut in once more.
"I don't care! I still won't marry her!" Sungjong screamed as he left the chambers.
I heard the King sigh heavily "I really wish that he would hear me out."
I slowly made my way around the partition and said "Perhaps you should just let him figure things out on his own."
The King stumbled over when he saw me. "Where did you come from? How did you get in here?" Then he took a good look at me and asked "And, why are you soaking wet?"
I walked around so that I was in front of him and bowed "Jeonha, please forgive my sudden appearance."
He quickly stood up and came rushing over to me "What is going on? Are you okay?"
"Jeonha" I smiled up at his concerned face. "I am fine. However, we do need to talk."
