A Painful Regret
"So these are your friends now."
Hawk suddenly felt an acute twinge of sadness at the memory of both Miguel's words and the 'I'm disappointed in you' expression on Miguel's face as the latter shook his head before turning on his heel and then walked away.
And just like that, Miguel was gone — gone from the Cobra Kai lunch table, and gone from Hawk's life.
Over the next few days, it seemed Cobra Kai was out to make Hawk's life as bad as it could possibly get. Bert was first to go over his refusal to feed a live hamster (which he'd named Clarence) to a snake; then Mitch had been kicked out over not being Cobra Kai material after he'd lost to a newly recruited Kyler in their sparring match.
When Hawk went to the park later, he found Miguel there. But Miguel wasn't alone; Sensei Lawrence was with him. When Hawk saw the T-shirt Miguel was wearing emblazoned with an eagle showing a pair of fangs in its beak, his eyes widened, as though he'd possibly been stopped short. Miguel had chosen Sensei Lawrence and Eagle Fang (as the new dojo was called) over Kreese and Cobra Kai.
A few hours later, Hawk sat on his bed, his eyes lowered in sadness at the memory of Miguel's disappointed expression; his heart bled at having lost El Serpiente (as he called Miguel) to Eagle Fang.
I can't believe this. I try to avenge what happened to Miguel during the school brawl, and what happens? He tells me off over Demetri's broken arm and leaves Cobra Kai and me for Eagle Fang in the process.
Hawk realized his seeking revenge on Miyagi-Do for what happened to Miguel during the brawl at West Valley High had sadly backfired. Miguel showed he'd become an ex-Cobra and current student of Eagle Fang Karate by cutting Hawk loose — not only over what he did to Demetri and the other Miyagi-Dos, but also Hawk's choosing Cobra Kai over his and Miguel's friendship.
First Chris, Abe, Frank, Nate, Little Red and half the other Cobras switch over to Miyagi-Do after Chris said he never liked it at Cobra Kai. Then Bert and Mitch get kicked out for different reasons (Bert over his love of animals and Mitch over not being Kreese's idea of Cobra Kai material) while Kyler takes their place. Now Miguel's left Cobra Kai too.
I can't believe those guys went for Miyagi-Do or Eagle Fang.
Hawk soon came to another realization; his friends were gone, and it was now just Kyler (who was the biggest bully to Hawk) and a bunch of other goons in their stead.
Nice going, Hawk. Look where your revenge has gotten you.
