39- "Why? Why? Why?"

Guys, can we keep the spamming to a minimum? I had over 1k notifications after not logging on for two days! You're all crazy, I swear. But I still love you.

"Blue!" Zoe cried as the door burst open. Little Zoe ran full speed towards us, arms open and mouth wide. She was wearing her pyjamas, with cute fuzzy ducks in them. She dropped her teddy bear as she ran. She came to a crashing holt at the foot of the bed and climbed up, sliding her arms around both Percy and I'm neck, pulling us close for a hug.

Percy chuckled as we both put our arms around his little sister.

"I'm so glad you're home Blue, and you too Bethy." She whispered into our ears.

"Aw Zo-Zo," I snuggled my face into her hair. "We are too."

She sniffled and pulled back, her eyes wide. She wiped her nose with her sleeve, crying. "I missed you."

My heart broke slightly at her little sad face. "We would never leave you."

Percy pulled her back for another hug, rubbing her back slightly. "And if we did, we would come back. Just like we did this time."

Zoe nodded and squeezed in between us.

Percy and I had fallen asleep together after everyone left, holding onto each other. We both woke numerous times during the night, terrified or startled by a quiet noise. We were there for each other though, whispering comforts to each other as we shook with fear. We had woken up when a maid brought in our breakfast, but I didn't leave his bed. I don't think I would be able to be a few metres away from him ever again.

"Where's Tyson?" I asked, making some more room for Zoe.

"I was meant to be waiting for him to get out the shower but he was taking to long." She giggled.

Percy smiled and started to tickled Zoe on her sides. Her giggle turned into a laugh as she started to squirm away from Percy. She managed to jump over me and push me towards Percy, so I scooted over and Zoe sat down next to me.

"Now you have to tickle Bethy."

I held up my hand to stop Percy who was grinning like a madman. "No. I have various injuries that can be worsened if I laugh to much."

"Aw," Percy pouted. "You are such a party pooper."

Zoe gasped. "Blue!" She pointed a finger at him. "You just said a bad word."

My jaw dropped as I turned to Percy. "How dare you, peasant. Her Royal highness will have you thrown in the dungeon if you speak such foul language again!"

Percy rolled his eyes. "I know for a fact that her Royal highness does not have a dungeon."

"I do so!" Zoe crossed her arms over her chest.

I nodded at Percy. "She totally does."

"Whatever." He rolled his eyes again.

"Can you see a brain back their, peasant?"

Percy smirked. "It's quite big actually, holding my extreme knowledge of the world."

"Yeah," I shook my head. "I don't think so."

"Brother!"

We all turned towards the door to see Tyson standing there, is hair slightly damp from his shower wearing a casual orange shirt and denim shorts.

"Big Guy!" Both Percy and I chorused as Tyson ran towards us, jumping into the bed and hugging us tightly.

"You're back!"

I squeezed his shoulder. "We're back!"

"I missed you guys so much."

"We missed you too, Tyson." Percy pulled Tyson back into a hug.

"Is what Mum told me true?"

"What's that?" I asked.

Fear grew in Tyson large eyes. "That Kronos is back. That he hurt you, both."

"Whose Kronos? Did he hurt you?" Zoe punched the bed. "I'll punch his face for hurting you."

I rubbed her back, laughing slightly. An uneasy feeling filled my stomach. "No one you need to worry about Zo-Zo."

"Yeah, he's back, Big Guy." Percy whispered to Tyson, making sure Zoe couldn't hear. "He don't know where he is now. We hope he's gone."

I looked into Percy's eyes, silently asking a question with them. Is he gone?

Percy could only reply with a shrug and a scared look.

Tyson and Zoe stayed for another half and hour until they had to leave for their breakfast. We only had a few moments of peace before the door banged open again and my little brothers came bellowing into the room, trying to do what everyone else had today, which was jumping on the bed and pulling us in for a group hug. They have difficulties as they still had injuries from when they were in a car accident a few weeks ago.

"Big sister and boyfriend." Bobby cried in delight, happy we were home.

"We're so happy you guys are back." Matthew wiped a few stray tears off his cheek.

I ruffled their hair affectionately. "Aw, I love you guys."

"Seriously, Annabeth?" Bobby grumbled unhappily trying to fix up his messy hair. "Why do you do that?"

"It shows affection." I shrugged, smirking slightly.

Both boys grinned mischievously at each other and then as quick as lightning, did the same to Percy and I's hair.

Percy made no attempt to fix his hair, as it was already disheveled. I groaned and glared at the two boys as I combed my fingers through the tangles.

"How are you?" I asked though slightly annoyed at them.

"How are us? How are you?" Matthew pointed at me.

I shrugged then looked at Percy. "Okay. I could be better, but okay."

"Did you ask that girl out that you like, Bobby?" Percy asked grinning.

And just like that we were back to a normal conversation.

My jaw dropped slightly. "How does he know about this and not me?"

Matthew shrugged. "He asked Percy for advice."

I pouted. "I'm a girl, I know what girls like."

"Yeah," Matthew leaned over to Bobby. "What nerd girls like. She probably would have made you take Penny out to a bookstore."

I gasped and slapped him playfully on the shoulder.

"He asked me for advice because," Percy gestured to himself while wiggling his eyebrows. "I'm a ladies man."

I scoffed. "Not exactly."

"Then how did I get you to fall in love with me?" He raised his eyebrows.

I bit my lip, a blush creeping up in my cheeks. "That was all my doing!" I failed to come up with a good sarcastic response.

"Aw, adorable." Dr Will Solace said from the door, wearing his white doctors coat and holding a clipboard. "A family reunion."

He walked over and stopped at the end of our bed. "Sorry boys, I'm going to have to ask you to leave. I have to check up on my important patients."

"Hear that?" Percy leaned over to me. "I'm important."

"We are important."

I grabbed my brothers and gave them each a hug. "I love you two."

They groaned, smiling. "We love you too."

As they walked out of the room, I looked at their retreating fingers. The sudden feeling of happiness made me nearly break down crying as I realised I saw my brothers again, something that I feared I would never do.

Will checked all of the machines we were connected too, writing down things here and there. Percy took my hand and gave it a comforting squeeze.

Will noticed this and eyed both of us. "Did you sleep here, Annabeth?"

"Yes..."

"Did you do any activities with Percy that may have cause your heart rate to go up?"

I gasped, my face going full on red. I covered it with both my hands, embarrassed. "What?! No! We did not do...that!"

Percy scratched the back oh his neck, chucking slightly. "Nothing happened."

Will nodded. "Good. You both will have to lay of certain activities for a couple of weeks. If your heart rate sky rockets then that could lead to some serious problems."

"That's totally okay! We weren't planning on anything."

"Speak for yourself." Percy said

I slapped him on the shoulder. He held up his hand in surrender. "Joking, joking."

I glared at him, which immediately made him shrink.

"Now Perce," Will stood at the end of the bed again. "There's a long line of crying girls waiting to see you."

Percy groaned and I shifted uncomfortably. "Seriously?"

Will chuckled, nodding. "They've been here for quite awhile but I said family first. Drew wasn't happy, claiming that you were in love and that she needed to see her favourite person in the world immediately."

I raised my eyebrows at Percy who banged his head on the wall with each word. "Why? Why? Why?"

"Drew's in love with you?" I was a little surprised to feel a knot of jealousy at the pit of my stomach.

"Gods no," Percy looked over at me unhappily. "She's just in love with the crown. I'm in love with you."

I smiled at him, giving him a short kiss on the lips, as we had company.

"I'll send them in groups, and I'll be standing in the corner to get them out if it becomes to overwhelming."

"Thanks, Will."

Will smiled and walked out the door, going to go get Percy's 'friends'.

I pushed myself out of Percy's bed, de-tangling myself from his wires.

He reached out to me. "Annabeth..."

I shook my head. "It's fine, I'll just go back to mine."

He frowned at me but didn't get a chance to say anything as the first group of girls walked in.

They all ignored me and rushed towards Percy, tears rolling down their cheeks. They all gave him a kiss on the cheek and a hug.

"I was so worried about you, Perce." Drew fanned herself.

I rolled my eyes at the nickname.

"Don't ever do that again!" Rachel slapped him upside the head. "We were worried sick!"

"How are you?" Reyna asked, always the most logical.

"I'm doing alright." Percy smiled.

"Do you need anything?" Calypso took the opportunity to sit down next to Percy. "I could make you some food if you want."

Percy shook his head. "I'm good, thank you though."

They bombarded Percy with questions about what happened, all of them still crying. Except for Reyna, of course.

I looked over at Will, and the look on my face must have said it all. He left the room quickly and came back holding a couple of machines. He started to work on unplugging me and re-plugging me into the portable version of the machines I needed to help me. They were on wheels, so it was easy to walk by myself.

"All good?" He asked.

I nodded thanking him

As I got to the doorway Percy called out. "Wise Girl! Where are you going?"

All of the girls turned around, noticing me for the first time. Before they could talk, I answered his question. "I'm going to go for a walk. Maybe even have a shower."

The sparkle in his eyes deflated. "If you need anything, I'm here."

I gave him a sealed smile. "I know."

I could feel his eyes on me as the girls started talking again as I made my way out of the room.

I left the hospital wing, much to Will's protests. I threaten him in the end and he told me that if anything happened, it wasn't his fault. I laughed and walked down the hallway, looking at the familiar walls with paintings hanging on them, glad to be home.

"Is that an Annabeth I spot?"

I turned around to the sound of Jason's voice. He was wearing his guard uniform and Thalia was standing next to him, wearing a silver jumpsuit.

"Ah, the Grace siblings!" I wobbled over to them, hugging them each.

"Shh!" Thalia put a finger on my mouth.

I waved it off, smiling. "No ones listening!"

She shrugged. "You know your in a hospital gown?"

I looked down at myself and noticed the yucky gown I was in. "So I am. Would you both like to accompany me to my bedroom for a change?"

They both laughed and then took a machine each, walking next to me. They helped me up the stairs, talking light heartily, making me laugh.

When we got to my room, the one on the third floor, Thalia help me get changed in the bathroom. I couldn't have a shower because of the wires sticking out of me, which I was upset about. I was sure I smelled like cow manure.

We all laid down on my bed, Jason in the middle.

"How are you guys adjusting to your new lives?"

Thalia laughed. "Nothing much has changed. No one knows yet, so we have to meet in secret so it doesn't look suspicious."

"I've learnt that my sister is a badass and that you don't want to mess with her." Jason looked over at me.

I nodded. "Did you pick that up from the black hair or the sarcastic attitude?"

"Both."

We all laughed, the sound bouncing off the walls and filling my ears. This was bliss.

There was a moment of silence before I broke it. "Have you seen Luke?"

Thalia took in a sharp breath. "No. I've been to scared to do it."

"He saved us."

"Yeah?" There was hope in her voice.

I chuckled. "Yeah. After he starved us for a week, tortured us and nearly killed us."

"Oh."

There was more silence, as we all thought over the actions of our friend.

"He seems like a jerk." Jason said. "How did you get him to snap out of it?"

I shrugged, tears forming in my eyes. "I just reminded him of a promise he made to me when I was seven."

Thalia and Jason took me back to the hospital wing and came in to catch up with Percy too. He was done with all of the crying girls, which he complained about for a solid twenty minutes. I snuggled up against him again, glad to have him all to myself again.

I was glad that Thalia was Percy's cousin. Part of me felt like it was good for Perce, now he has a new person in his life only a few years older than him. And his bond with Jason will only grow stronger once the big royal family secret is out. The other part of me is silently glad that there isn't as much competition now.

"So our grandfather is alive?" Jason asks.

Thalia laughed, breaking the serious tone of the conversation. We all stared at her like she had grown another five heads. "Sorry. Sorry. It's just I still can't over the fact that I'm related to royals."

"Technically," I pointed to her. "Your a royal."

She shrugged "Same, same."

"Yes, Jason." Percy placed us all back on track. "He's alive."

"Not anymore."

"What?" I asked, turning to face Sally and Paul at the door.

"Approximately half an hour ago, guards charged into Tartarus, finding and killing Kronos. He was shot multiple times in the chest, stabbed in the back and his dead body is being burned as we speak." Sally walked in and placed a hand on my knee. "He's dead."

I looked over at Percy, my hand covering my mouth, tears falling down my face. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my chest.

Percy wrapped his arms around me. I placed my head in the crook of his neck and a hand on his chest. We rocked back and forth slightly, the news washing over us.

We didn't notice Jason, Thalia, Paul and Sally leaving until Will woke us up a few hours later.

Percy and I had fallen asleep, our limbs tangled together.

"Aw," Will gently shook our arms to wake us up. "I wish I could do that with-"

He stopped short but we were to tired to pick him up on it and question him further.

"What's up, Doc?" Percy yawned, his arms stretching out behind him.

I rubbed my eyes sleepily. "What time is it?"

Will checked his watch. "Quarter to six."

"Oh."

"To answer your question Percy, I'm just going check up on you two again."

"No." I deadpan. "We have not done anything that would cause our heart rates to sky rocket."

Will laughed, nodding his head. "That's good. Keep that up."

He checked our temperatures and other things I was sure Percy had no idea what the hades they were.

"What's the verdict, Doc?"

"You're not getting out of here for a definite week and a bit."

"Really?" I frowned.

He nodded his head. "Sorry."

We thanked him and he left to go help other people.

"So, um. Wise Girl?"

I scrunched my eyebrows together in confusion. "Yeah, Seaweed Brain?"

He reached underneath his bed and looked up at me. "I have your birthday gift."

My heart started to beat faster. "Mmh?"

"Is now a good time?"

I nodded enthusiastically. "Yes."

He gave me a half smile and picked up the present from underneath the bed, placing it in my lap.

I gasped as I looked at the beautiful, brown leather book. It was A3 in size, gold trimmings around the edge.

He smiled bashfully at me and opened it up. On the inside was a picture of Percy and I when we were two, holding hands and smiling up at the camera.

He flicked the page over. More pictures placed on the pages. There was one at my fourth birthday party, me blowing out the candles and Percy's face obscured by the large pile of books that I had gotten as presents. They were children's books of course, but I remembered reading them with Percy. The next picture was of Percy and I in the bathroom, looking in the mirror and pointing at the big hole in the bottom row of teeth in Percy's mouth. He was the first to loose a tooth. The next page had pictures of us playing and running in the garden, the next pages filled with pictures of Percy and I holding Tyson. There was a picture of Percy riding a horse for the first time, me off to the side, my arms in the air and my mouth wide open. Obviously yelling at him because he was doing it wrong.

My eyes began to water as I looked at the image of Percy and I dancing. It was a cut out of the Illèa Weekly, the first time we had danced the national dance together in public.

I pointed to the image and laughed, which sounded weird because I was crying. "Remember when-when I kept stepping on your toes?"

He nodded, smiling at me. "I'm still in pain today."

"Oh," I slapped him on the chest. "Don't be ridiculous."

He pointed at a picture of him and I standing in front of the Colosseum in Rome, Italy. "Remember that trip for Nico's tenth birthday?"

I nodded smiling at our beaming faces. "What were we? Thirteen?"

He nodded and flicked over the page. There was a picture of Percy and I at the beach for his sixteenth birthday, the same one I have on my wall in my third floor bedroom. He's standing on the sand smiling at the camera shirtless, me kissing him on the cheek.

"Remember we had a seaweed fight before this was taken?" He pointed to a small piece of seaweed in his hair, hardly visible.

I nodded, wiping a tear off my check. "It started when I picked up a pile and told you that was what your brain looked like."

He laughed. "And then you got mad at me because I got your book wet."

I shoved his shoulder playfully. "I'm still mad at you for that."

The next couple of pages were filled with more pictures from our late teens years. There was a picture of us both wearing ugly Christmas sweaters, drinking hot chocolate as we opened presents with the rest of our families. The last picture in there was the offical photo we had taken in the Selection.

I was standing there, in a short white dress fixing Percy's tie. He was a little bit taller than me, looking down at me smiling. I was looking up at him, my smiling matching his. It was definitely one of my favourites.

I flicked to the next page to see it empty. I looked at Percy curious.

"To fill in the future."

My heart melted with love for the boy looking at me with so much adoration.

"Do you like it?"

I wrapped my arms around his neck, tugging him closer so our foreheads were touching.

"I love it."

He breathed a sigh of relief as I closed the gap in between us.

My body melted with his touch, pressing up against his. He cupped my cheek, gently rubbing it with his finger. I pulled him closer, my relief and love shining through the kiss.

I pulled away, breathless. "I'm in love with you."

"I'm in love with you." He responded, kissing me again.
