26- "A Hickey? Scandalous."
To all my readers who are being affected by the natural disasters across the world, I hope you/your family/your friends are safe and that you/they get back on their feet quickly
The girls wouldn't let me go to breakfast the next morning.
"What?! Why?!" I whined like a little child.
Alicia pushed my shoulders back so I fell back on the bed. "You're sick, we don't want you to throw up in the middle of breakfast."
"But it gets boring here," I sneezed at the end of my sentence sending a triumphant smile on Alicia's face.
"Are we not good enough company?" Hazel asked as she walked over slowly from the door, a large silver tray topped with a steaming mug and a bowl of porridge.
"You're good company when you've got food," I sat up eagerly as Hazel placed the tray on my lap.
She gave me a spoon and I started to dig into my breakfast.
After not long the door opened and Percy stuck his head through.
"Morning, Wise Girl."
"Morning, Seaweed Brain," I said with my mouth full of food.
He chuckled and came into the room, walking over and giving me a kiss on the forehead. "I thought we could go on a date today." He was wearing his usual suit, but he was holding his jacket in his hand.
I sighed exasperatedly. "You do know that I'm sick right? I've been vomiting."
"I can confirm that!" Alicia called from the bathroom.
I rolled my eyes, as did Percy.
"Well," He said as he stuck a finger into my porridge and scooped up a bit, putting it in his mouth, "I thought we could watch a movie."
I nervously patted my bed head blushing. "Now?"
He shook his head, backing up. "I have to have breakfast first and then I have a meeting I can't miss," He turned around and opened the door. "But I'll swing by around lunchtime and we shall have late lunch together and watch a movie."
I smiled at him. "Sounds amazing."
"Because I'll be there," He winked and left the room, quietly closing the door behind him.
"He's so perfect, isn't he?" Hazel asked.
I nodded, smiling big looking forward to our movie date.
I read a book until it was about twelve o'clock and Justine said it was time to start moving.
"Up you get!" She tapped my leg.
I sneezed loudly and quickly grabbed a tissue to blow my nose. I groaned. "I hate being sick."
"I know," Alicia scrunched up her face. "And I hate you being sick."
"Aw," I continued to talk as I made my way slowly to the bathroom where a shower was running. "Do you care about me?"
"No." She lightly pushed me in the back. "I have to clean up after you."
I turned around a stuck my tongue out at her. She returned my gesture with her tongue stuck out too. I rolled my eyes and shut the door.
I quickly go into the warm shower and breathed in the steam as the water hit my body. It cleared my blocked nose and my head became less stuffy, which I was extremely thankful for.
I stepped out of the nice relaxing shower, looked at myself in the mirror and screamed.
Hazel, Alicia and Justine all rushed into the bathroom expecting me to be dead on the floor.
"Ah!" I screamed again, "I have a- I have a-!"
Alicia burst out laughing, Hazel and Justine following suit. They had to lean on the wall and sink for support, holding their stomachs laughing.
"This isn't funny!" I yelled at them.
"It is!" Hazel giggled.
"I have a hickey!" I pointed to my neck.
On my neck was a median sized bruise, a purple-ish colour. I touched it lightly with my fingers and jumped back, shocked that is was there. With the towel wrapped around me, I leaned in closer to the mirror, moving my head in funny angles trying to get a look at it.
Justine sobered up first and rested a hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry, miss, we can cover it up with your dress."
She left a panicked me and a hysterical Alicia and Hazel in the bathroom to go and get a dress to cover up Percy's mark.
I grumbled something unintelligible as I walked back out into the bedroom where Justine had already picked a dress.
It had a collar, a different pattern to the rest of the navy dress, and when fixed properly on my neck, it covered the hickey.
I still sat there flabbergasted as the girls did my hair and makeup. My hair must have been covering it before when Percy was here.
Not long after I was ready to go did Percy knock on the door.
I opened it and frowned at him. He smiled back, his beautiful eyes lighting up.
I crossed my arms over my chest and rested on one leg glaring at him. He quickly put his hands up in surrender. "What did I do? Did I forget something? Did I say something? Have I hurt you?"
His adorable concern took away some of my anger but I still walked up to him and poked him hard in the chest. "Oh, you've done something wrong."
His eyes grew wide and I could tell he was going over the past month seeing if he had done anything wrong. "Wh-What did I do?"
I raised my eyebrows, bringing my hands up to my neck and pushing down my collar so he could see what he did.
A smile slowly grew on his face and his eyes flickered from my neck to my face. "A hickey?" He asked, "You're angry about that?"
I scoffed and fixed my collar. "Do you know how embarrassing that is?"
"Aw," He pouted. "It just means that you're mine."
Blushing I stood my ground as he gave me his large puppy dog eyes, filling my vision with sea-green. It always worked on me, and he knew it.
I sighed and he smirked.
"Shall we go, my lady?" He held out his arm still smirking.
"We shall," I grumbled placing my arm in his and closed the door behind me.
"How was your meeting?"
Percy sighed. "Awful as always. There is literally no point in me being there, they don't listen to a thing I say anyway."
I squeezed his hand comfortably. "They'll have to listen soon."
Percy nodded. "Too soon."
"Are you not ready?" I asked quietly.
We turned the corner and took the stairs down. "I think I am. They don't. And I just- Everything's moving too fast, Wise Girl. They expect me to have a wife by my birthday, my eighteenth birthday mind you, and they still want me to attend every single meeting even though they hardly let me talk."
"Oh, Perce." I stopped walking and wrapped my arms around his neck, resting my cheek on his chest. He wrapped his arms around my waist in a hug, resting his chin on top of my head. "Something I've learnt recently is to believe in yourself. You, Perseus Jackson, will make a loyal, brave and hardworking king. I believe that one hundred percent and now you have to believe it." I moved my head to look him in the eyes. "And about the wife thing, that's like fifty-four days away, heaps of time."
We stayed like that for a moment or two until we heard the soft sounds of crying. Percy quickly pulled me towards the wall, pushed a brick and a secret door swung open, pulling me inside.
"Wha-" I was about to ask what the hell he was doing but he covered my mouth. We were in a small room storage room with very dim lighting, making it hard for us to see.
"Shh," He gave me a nervous smile. "That was one of the girls I eliminated this morning."
Hope bubbled up inside of me that that was Drew, holding her bags and crying as she left. It sounded cruel but it's what she deserved.
But I didn't let any of that show, so raised my eyebrows and pried his fingers off my mouth. "Who did you eliminate?"
His eyes flickered around nervously. "Jasmine Spence, Scarlett Benton, Elizabeth Blackwell, Evelyn Freeman and Riley Wilson."
I was sad to see sarcastic Evelyn go who sits behind me in my classes go but that was overthrown by the joy of Riley getting eliminated.
"You eliminated Riley?" I asked.
Concern washed over his face. "Is that bad? Was she your friend?"
I shook my head smiling. "No, she was awful."
"I thought so too." He smirked.
I was still smiling as I leaned up against the cold wall. "I think she's gone."
"Good," Percy sighed. "It would have been awkward seeing as all four of them left the room crying. I can't deal with that, seeing their hurt looks knowing I can't do anything about it."
I grabbed his hand as we started to walk towards the hidden movie cinema. "Four? But you eliminated five."
"Evelyn wanted to leave. She asked me yesterday after dinner if she could go home and I gave her the night to think about it."
"Oh," I said softly. "Why?"
"I think it's the Rebel attacks," He turned and looked at me. "Have you noticed that there have been more? And that they're closer together?"
I nodded. "I think it's got to do with the Selection. Maybe they don't want you to find a wife or something. I don't see why though."
"Same," He sighed.
We stopped at a large piece of blank wall. Percy gestured to it smiling, so I stepped forward and found the hidden latch. The piece of wall swung into the room, just like the storage closet and we quickly walked in, pushing the door shut behind us.
We had walked into a room, the walls lined with red velvet. The room went down, and the top where we were was a popcorn machine, a fridge and a bench. In twos, five rows of comfy leather chairs went down to a small flat area that had a large screen on the wall.
Happily, I skipped down to my favourite row, two from the front and sat down in the seat closest to the wall.
Percy chuckled. "I'll get the snacks then."
"Yes, please!"
"What movie are we going to watch?" I asked as he sat down next to me, handing me a bucket of popcorn and a soft drink.
"Finding Nemo!" He said with a giddy smile bouncing in his chair.
I rolled my eyes smiling at his excitement as the lights lowered and the screen turned on. He's loved Finding Nemo for as long as I remember and can recite the whole movie.
We watched in silence as the movie started, slowly making our way through our popcorn bucket.
Halfway through the movie Percy stood up and squished in next to me.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
He looked at me sheepishly. "I wanted to sit next to you."
I sighed and gestured to our position with my head. We were squished up, our hands stuck by our sides and legs squashed together.
He just shrugged and placed an arm around my shoulder, freeing up minimal space and turning back to the movie.
I sighed again and moved my left leg, putting on top of his and my foot near his knee. I leaned into his side, resting my head on his shoulder, his warmth spreading through me bringing peace.
Percy laughed at nearly every joke and made stupid comments, pointing to the screen saying. "Wait for it! Wait for it!" Even though I'd seen the movie as much as he had.
As the credits started to roll I snuggled closer to Percy. "You love that movie so much."
He kissed me lightly on the forehead. "Yeah, I do."
"What now?" I asked.
He took his hand out my behind my neck taking my hand and pulling me up. "Lunch."
I smiled at the prospect of food. "I like the sound of that."
Percy told me to stay put outside the door to the kitchens and he went inside.
After a few minutes, he returned carrying a basket.
"Ooo," I tried to reach over to lift the lid but he gently slapped my hand.
"No peaking please, Wise Girl." He took my hand and we walked out to the front of the palace.
The warm sun was high in the clear blue sky as we stepped down the grand stairs and onto the driveway. We turned around the side of the palace and found ourselves at the pool.
He brought me over to the pool and put the basket on the floor, bending down and taking off his shoes.
He laughed at my confused face. "I just want to put my feet in the water."
I nodded smiling and took off my shoes as well.
We sat down on the cool tiles and dangled our feet in the water, watching the ripples of the water. The basket was in between us and we started to munch on some blue cookies.
"I've been thinking a lot about my dad recently," Percy stared at the water.
I looked over at him curiously. "Yeah?"
The sun hit his face, bringing out the angle of his cheekbones and jaw. "Yeah. Do you think he would be disappointed in me for being scared?"
I placed a hand on his cheek, cupping it and moving his head to look at me. "Poseidon would not care if you weren't scared, scared or terrified. He would, and is, proud of the person who you have come to be, and the person you will be. Fear or no fear." I looked him straight in the eyes.
He closed his eyes, leaning into my touch. "What would I do without you Annabeth?"
I didn't reply but pushed the basket separating us out of the way and scooted closer to him, leaning up.
Just before my lips were going to meet his he whispered: "I'll get sick."
"I don't care."
Our lips met, our eyes fluttered closed and our hearts beated as one.
We pulled apart and smiled. I was glad that he was reassured and he was glad that we kissed.
Percy dropped me off at my room not too long later after giving me a kiss on the cheek.
I closed the door behind me, and as per tradition recounted everything that had happened for eagerly awaiting Hazel, Alicia and Justine.
"You two are so cute together." Hazel gushed.
I rolled my eyes but didn't reply.
"I think I'm going to go to the Women's room,"
"Will you be alright?" Justine asked.
I waved her concern away. "Don't worry, I'll be fine."
The Women's room was busier than expected. I counted the girls as I walked in and got fourteen. I paused as I realised we were now in the top fifteen and that I had made it this far, I had made it more than halfway.
"Annabeth!" I heard Piper call and turned towards her to see her running up to me in her long purple dress.
She flung her arms around me in a tight embrace. "How are you feeling?"
I hugged her back tightly. "I'm feeling better," We pulled back from the hug and walked over to her seat. "I'm getting better. You?"
She shrugged and sat down. "Same old same old."
I sat down next to Thalia who was wearing a silver dress. "What's up, Thals?"
She looked up from the magazine she was reading. "Because of you, I had to sit through multiple boring tests where they stuck needles in me and told me a bunch of information that I don't really care about."
"Oh," I said in a small voice. "Sorry, I told Percy not to but he didn't budge."
Piper bumped shoulders with me. "It wasn't that bad. It's better than getting sick, isn't it Thalia?"
Thalia rolled her eyes and went back to reading. "Sure."
Piper sighed. "I don't know what's up with her, she's been so moody."
I gave Piper a half smile. "Probably because she's had to sit through multiple boring tests where they stuck needles in her and told her a bunch of information she doesn't really care about."
Piper rolled her eyes. "I've missed you at meals. I've had to make conversation with Riley-"
"Good gods," Reyna interrupted and sat down on the other side of Piper in a short cream dress. "That was awful."
"-but I've had Reyna which was good. Did you hear about the elimination this morning?"
I nodded. "Yeah, Percy told me."
"Percy told you?" Rachel asked as she too sat down in a floral pattern dress joining the conversation next to Thalia.
"Yeah, we went on a date today." I blushed.
"Well, he hasn't spoken to me in forever," Thalia imputed.
"Really?" Reyna asked, "Why?"
"I told him I hate him."
All of the girls exploded, including me. We started to shout at Thalia asking the what, where, when and why questions.
Thalia just laughed. "Calm down you crazy girls. I didn't tell him that!"
We all sighed and sat back down grumbling about how Thalia was just messing with us/
"Why don't you think he's been talking to you then?" Piper asked.
"Obviously he's been too busy with. Annie" She nudged her chin over at me.
"What makes you say that-" But then I quickly realised that my collar had slipped.
My eyes wide I quickly moved my hands up to my neck and fixed my collar before anyone else could notice. "Moving on."
"No, no, no," Piper turned my body to face her. "What did you just do?"
Thalia turned the page in her magazine. "She tried to change the subject."
I turned my head and glared at her but she just smirked at me.
Pipers hand came up and moved my collar down. "Annabeth!" She exclaimed.
I blushed as I swatted her hands away. "I accidentally-"
"What?" She asked, "Had a make-out session with the prince?"
"What?" Rachel and Reyna said at the same time.
I buried my face in my hands embarrassed.
"Yep!" Piper continued. "He gave her a hickey."
"A hickey?" Silena asked as she walked by. "Scandalous."
"Fine." I played with a piece of my dress looking down avoiding everyone's eyes. "Yesterday Percy came and visited me. We kissed and we got carried away."
"I think it was more than carried away," Katie took the empty seat next to me in her green dress. Her eyes flickered down to my stomach. "Is there something you want to tell us?"
I gasped. "Katie!"
Everyone else started to laugh at my face at the thought of me being pregnant.
"Is everyone listening to our conversation?" I asked looking around the room.
"Only some," Drew stood in front of our group with a few friends behind her. She wore her usual style of dress, which was revealing.
"Not in the mood Drew."
"Oh, I only just wanted to say one thing. Good plan faking being sick to get Percy to be concerned. I just wanted to congratulate you."
I started to get up in anger, but Katie and Piper's hands held me back.
"She's not worth it," Piper muttered.
"I know," I sighed.
I stayed in the Women's room chatting with the girls, completely ignoring Drew and the large crowd surrounding her. We all made our way to the dining room together and separated to go sit down.
The table had been shortened due to the smaller amount of girls, but Piper, Reyna and I were still at the end.
Dinner was served after the royal family came in, which they all gave me a smile glad that I was okay.
"How are your brothers Annabeth?" Piper asked.
I was about to reply but Percy sneezed really loudly. The whole room went silent as everyone looked at Percy in shock because the sneeze was rather loud.
I big smile came to my face and I burst out laughing.
Not the short haha or the little giggle laugh but a snorting, stare worthy, knee-slapping laugh.
I laughed as everyone eyes turned from Percy to me. Sally and Paul were smiling widely, Piper was giving me a weird look and Percy was glaring at me.
"You-" I smiled widely pointing at him. "You-" I laughed again as he sneezed loudly again too. "You sneezed!"
I put my hand on the table to try and calm myself down but I kept on laughing. Percy glared at me. "And why is that so funny, Annabeth?"
I leaned back in my chair and threw my head back, laughing even more. My laughter echoed off the walls making it louder. "I told you!"
"Told me what exactly, Wise Girl?!" He sneezed again at the end, making Girl extremely long and high pitched.
"I told you you'd get sick" I stuck my tongue out at him, "I told you so!" And I laughed again as he glared at me from across the room.
I don't know if you can tell but I'm experiencing some writers block at the moment, I'm sorry about the lack of words and good writing but I'll get through this and I won't stop updating!
