Chapter Ten - On a Mission to Audition.
We stood in a line of other auditioners. Waiting for our name to be called. Sherlock was looking so handsome in a dark blue dress shirt and black trousers. We watched as Richard gave the To be or not to be speech. All by himself. I had to admit I felt a bit bad...But looking at Sherlock made me realize, it would be easier to do this with somebody I'm comfortable with.
Finally it was our turn. I was auditioning for Ophelia, and Sherlock for Hamlet.
I sat down on the stage and pretended to read a prayer book.
Sherlock entered and preformed the 'to be or not to be' soliloquy, then Sherlock as hamlet delivered the line...
HAMLET :The fair Ophelia!—Nymph, in thy orisons. Be all my sins remembered.
I looked up from my book and smiled at him.
Ophelia: Good my lord, How does your honor for this many a day?
Sherlock smiles back.
HAMLET: I humbly thank you. Well, well, well.
I laid aside my book and stood to look at Sherlock. I look serious and deliver the next line.
OPHELIA: My lord, I have remembrances of yours. That I have longèd long to redeliver. I pray you now receive them.
HAMLET: No, not I. I never gave you aught. Sherlock says defensively.
OPHELIA: My honored lord, you know right well you did, And with them, words of so sweet breath composed. As made the things more rich. Their perfume lost, Take these again, for to the noble mind. Rich gifts wax poor when givers prove unkind. There, my lord. I said handing him the letter.
HAMLET: Ha, ha, are you honest? Sherlock scoffed.
OPHELIA: My lord? I questioned.
HAMLET: Are you fair? He says.
OPHELIA: What means your lordship? I say shaking my head in confusion.
HAMLET: That if you be honest and fair, your honesty should admit no discourse to your beauty.
OPHELIA: Could beauty, my lord, have better commerce than with honesty?
HAMLET: Ay, truly, for the power of beauty will sooner transform honesty from what it is to a bawd than the force of honesty can translate beauty into his likeness. This was sometime a paradox, but now the time gives it proof. I did love you once. He says his eyes giving meaning to the words.
My heart skipped a beat.
OPHELIA: Indeed, my lord, you made me believe so. I said smiling sadly.
We finished the scene, and received a standing ovation from our director and most of the crowd.
"Beautifully done! You could smell the angst!" Congratulated Professor Smith.
I smiled at Sherlock but he wasn't looking at me he was glaring at the only person sitting down in the crowd. A handsome Irish person...
