Side Story Chapter 3

Sorry this is late guys, school's just been kind of a nightmare.
Key: (GP/N)-grandpa's name; (GM/N)-grandma's name
Bonus Ch 3: The Council of the Alpha
Describing Treecaster in one word: Massive. (Y/N) could barely take in the entirety of the sub cavernous city as he and everyone else walked. The streets were busy, full of markets and people just like Mistral. He could people in their windows, doing chores, talking, just going about their lives. But what (Y/N) loved the most was the sight of dragon faunus, of all shapes, colors, and sizes, zipping around in the air. He never thought he'd even catch a glimmer of another dragon faunus, let alone a whole city full of them! Some were delivering mail or working on construction, but most seemed to be traveling too and from these floating islands hanging above the city.
Zack smiled as he saw the bewildered look on his nephews face.
"Like what you see, (N/N)?"
"It's-it's amazing!" The black haired male smiled.
"Of course it is! This is the home of dragons, the last great stronghold! But you haven't seen anything yet,"
Slightly behind the males, Team RWBY walked besides each other taking in the sights. Never in a million years did they ever believe they'd see anything like this. They were filled with joy seeing the many dragon faunus roaming, knowing how relieved (Y/N) must have felt...and yet, there was this unspoken gloom and fear which formed at the back of their minds. They had found (Y/N)'s home, so what now? Before anyone mustered the courage to ask the big question, Sun suddenly hopped in.
"Wow! I don't think I've ever seen you guys not hover around the little guy," he joked. "What gives?"
Blake rolled her eyes.
"Sun, he just found out he still has a family,"
"Yeah, I think he needs a moment to take it all in," Yang added as Weiss nodded.
"As well as speak with his uncle," Sun smiled.
"Alright, but I think you guys are forgetting he's had a family for a while now,"
They all smiled at the faunus, their minds a little lighter. Qrow, who had been speaking with the other dragons on the patrol, walked up, giving Ruby a ruffle to the hair.
"You did alright with that one. He wouldn't have made it if it weren't for you four,"
"I say we did more than alright," Ruby said with joking haughtiness.
Oscar chuckled.
"Yeah, he's a great kid. I'm pretty sure you're just as much family to him as Captain Zack over there," everyone looked at Oscar with a sorta discomfort. "What?"
"Um Oscar, you have access to Professor Ozpin's memories, right?" Blake asked. She wasn't afraid of asking in front of Sun, who had been let in on that secret.
He nodded.
"Yeah, kinda. Why?"
"Well, I think we're all wondering-,"
Yang cut her off.
"Did he know about any of this?"
Qrow shot her a look.
"Yang, Oz wouldn't hide something like this from (Y/N),"
"He would if he thought (Y/N) was useful," she whispered. Oscar rubbed his head in embarrassment.
"Well, I don't really have this memory thing under control, but I definitely can tell Ozpin did not know about this city before,"
Everyone looked at him in surprise.
"Are you sure?" Yang asked, not entirely trusting him. The farm boy scratched at his cheek.
"Yeah, he's kinda in shock right now. I think he's going through a crisis that this," he motioned his arms to everything. "Somehow went unnoticed by him,"
Ruby let out a silent sigh of relief, surprisingly grateful Ozpin was equally as clueless as they were. It was easier to trust him, knowing he wasn't actively keeping (Y/N) from his homeland.
"Hey how is all off this hidden?" Qrow asked one of the guards walking with them. "You can't even find this forest on a map,"
"You noticed those trees walking in here?" One asked. They all nodded. "Well, those trees act as a natural barrier for our territory. Their sap has a hallucinogen which confuses people and turns them away,"
"Wait, then how did we get through?" Weiss asked him. The male pointed at (Y/N).
"Simple, (Y/N) was with you! The trees can sense dragon faunus and when they do, they don't release the hallucinogen. We always have to check the borders to make sure none of our human scouts get lost in the fog,"
"Human scouts?"
Another soldier stepped in.
"Yup! The dragon faunus protect the forest, and the humans go out into the world and gather information for us to have,"
Blake smiled enthusiastically.
"So you and the humans work together? No separation?"
"Well, obviously there are things we can do that the humans can't. We can fly and we're far better fighters, but we rely on them to inform us about the outside world. Beyond that, we hunt, farm, and live together,"
"That's really nice change of pace," Weiss said will smiling to Blake.
"So where exactly are we going?" Yang finally asked.
"We're heading to the Palace of the Alpha. He's the one who rules Treecaster. He's also Captain Zack's father and (Y/N)'s grandfather,"
"Doesn't that make the little firebreather royalty then?"
The guard nodded vigorously to Qrow.
"Yes, of course! The title of Alpha is passed down to the strongest dragon in the royal family! Usually, the eldest child has the first right to challenge the previous Alpha to a duel. Usually the older dragon will peacefully surrender the title. One day, Captain Zack will challenge his father for the right to be Alpha!"
Another guard chimed in.
"But doesn't that right pass to (Y/N) now? His father was the first born, so doesn't he have the claim to challenge the Alpha first?"
"Oh, I forgot about that. I suppose he does,"
"So Zack got the first chance to challenge his old man after his brother died and his nephew disappeared?" Qrow inquired. There was an accusation barely hidden in there.
"Well, yes. No one doubted he would succeed his father after (F/N)'s death. He became the youngest member of the Fated Four after all,"
"And that is-?"
Oscar was cut off.
"The most elite guard of dragons there is! It's composed of only the finest,"
"Ah," everyone said.
"The other three will likely be present when Captain Zack presents (Y/N) to his family. Oh what a happy day! There will likely be a enormous feast to celebrate!"
"Too bad Nora isn't here," Yang joked as everyone chuckled. Qrow however frowned, and casted a suspicious glance at Zack who was telling his nephew everything about the city.
(Timeskip)
Eventually, the entourage finally made it to an enormous palace at the heart of the underground city.

The guards at the front gate bowed to Zack but reeled back as they saw (Y/N), obviously recognizing him. The dragon boy meekly waved to them as he followed his uncle in, the guards to stunned to respond. As they walked further in to the massive structure, (Y/N) began to lag behind Zack more and more, trying to get closer to his sisters. He just...didn't feel right in this place. It was too big, too luxurious, and to be honest, it felt cold to him. Weiss, notice (Y/N)'s slower pace, walked up to him.
"Something wrong sweetie?"
"I-it's nothing,"
Ruby joined them and gently played with his hair.
"No it's definitely something. It's really easy to tell when something's bothering you,"
"Come on, what's bothering you?" Yang joined in. He sighed.
"Well, this place....I don't know. It just doesn't seem like home,"
Sun bounded up to them.
"Well, you lived in that treehouse so technically this isn't your home," Blake gritted her teeth before shoving the monkey away.
"What Sun means to say is, you just haven't been here in a long time (Y/N), it's just unfamiliar to you now,"
"But, this place feels cold,"
"I'm sure you'll feel different once you meet your grandparents again. Besides," Ruby put a hand on his shoulder. "You've got us. We'll be here every step of the way,"
He smiled sadly.
"Thanks Ruby,"
The girls gave him a reassuring hug before they came to a stop at a large, crimson door with, what else, a gilded dragon on it. Zack turned to them with a smile.
"Alright, watch from here, then come over when I call you,"
"Any reason we should be worried?" Qrow inquired. He had been off for a little while. Zack just smirked.
"No, just want to hype everyone up. Not everyday a family member comes back from the grave. Just watch from here,"
The black hair male walked into the large meeting hall and (Y/N) could hear him politely greeting someone inside. Taking a peek, (Y/N) saw a massive throne room with two waterfalls centering a large golden throne where an elderly looking dragon faunus sitting there with a female dragon around the same age sitting next to him. The male was firm looking and exuded power despite his age. He had stern sky colored eyes, and graying (H/C) colored hair, like (Y/N) and his father. The woman looked a lot more approachable but still with a authoritative aura. Her hair looked black at one point and she had jade eyes. In front of the throne was a curved table with about 13 people, all in their later years and mostly made up of humans. Finally, there were four perches above the throne, 3 of which were occupied by male dragon faunus that (Y/N) did not want to mess with. They all had the same eyes as his uncle (making him wonder if they were related to them somehow). The two on the perches on outer sides of the waterfalls had silver and red hair, while male on one of the inner perches had black hair. (Y/N) wondered if these were the Fated Four his uncle had mentioned and if that four perch was Zack's. He stiffened up as the dragon on the throne, his grandfather apparently, addressed Zack.
"Son, what could be so important that my presence alone was not enough and that the council and the remaining Fated Four had to be present?"
"It's as my message said father, a miracle has happened. A miracle which effects the future of our city,"
The rusty haired male on the waterfall chuckled.
"Honestly Zack, you have a bad habit of exaggerating things. For your sake, please tell me you didn't summon us here for nothing,"
Zack clicked his tongue in annoyance and (Y/N) could tell his uncle was not a fan of this dragon in particular.
"Genesis, watch your tongue," the silver haired faunus on the other outer podium warned as the black haired one nodded.
"Yes," He smiled slyly. "Despite him being a puppy-,"
"Angeal!"
"He's still our future alpha," Zack scratched his head.
"Well, that's something that needs to be questioned with what we found,"
There were murmurs of nervousness as the Four and the two throned faunus looked at him in shock.
"Son," the female faunus said. "What are you talking about?"
Zack straightened up.
"Five years ago, my brother was viscously murdered by a band of hunters alongside his family,"
Immediately, the atmosphere became somber as everyone had a saddened look on their face, save for the Alpha. The faunus next to him, (Y/N)'s grandmother, looked especially heartbroken.
"Why do you bring this up Zack?" His father asked sternly.
"The bodies of (F/N) and (M/N) were recovered, but their son, your grandson, my nephew, (Y/N), was never found. Why?"
His mother began to sob.
"We've already discussed this Zack! The cowards must have stolen the body! Why are you reopening freshly healed wounds?"
"Because we discovered the truth! Our patrol found something at the home of my brother," the alpha gritted his teeth.
"That place is not to be trifled with Zack! It has nothing but bad memories!"
"It doesn't have to anymore. The reason why we never found (Y/N)'s body was there was no body to find!" He turned back, motioning for the boy to step in. (Y/N) took a shallow breath, his feet feeling rooted to the ground. He then felt a light tap on his shoulder and turned to see Yang smiling at him.
"We're right behind you,"
He nodded and took a step inside. Every pair of eyes was fixed on him as he walked towards Zack, unblinking and full of disbelief. The Alpha's face became unreadable while his wife's face flooded with tears. After what felt like eternity, he finally made it to Zack and waved nervously at everyone.
"Um, hi?"
Three council people immediately fainted, muttering something about a ghost, while two more, a man and a woman, shot up and ran at him, followed closely by his grandmother who flew.
"(Y/N)!" They all screamed as they hugged him, sobbing happily and nuzzling him. He could feel their warm and loving emotions but it was just too much for him to process and he struggled out of their grip and stumbled back a bit, caught by one of Zack's wings. The older people looked a little hurt as Zack stepped up.
"He...he doesn't remember us that well. He's just overwhelmed," the elderly gentlemen coughed before standing straight. He had tannish skin, and coal colored eyes and was quite bald.
"Of course. He was so little when it happened, I suppose it only makes sense he wouldn't recognize us,"
Zack smiled before kneeling down to (Y/N)'s level.
"(Y/N), these are your grandparents," he pointed at the human pair. "Your mother's parents, (GP/N) and (GM/N)," he then pointed to the female faunus. "Mine and your father's mother, Jesica, and of course, our father, Alpha Acris,"
The Alpha stood and walked towards them. (Y/N) felt almost crushed up the pressure of his imposing presence. He stopped in front of the boy, his expression calm, as he nodded.
"Welcome home, my grandson,"
(Y/N) didn't exactly feel at ease.
"Thanks, grandp- grandfather,"
(GP/N) gave him a side look.
"That's all you can say!? Our grandson comes back to us and you just welcome him back as if nothing happened? Honestly, you need to lighten up old man,"
The alpha huffed before both grandmothers approached the boy again. This (Y/N) was a little bit more lenient with the attention, though he still felt skittish.
"It truly is a miracle!" (GM/N) continued to sob. "How did you manage to return?"
(Y/N) smiled.
"I had some help," he turned towards the door and called for the others.
Hesitantly, they all walked in. Everyone immediately tensed up, not used to outsiders in the city, let alone the palace. Two of the Fated Four, the silver haired one and one named Genesis, grabbed their swords, preparing to draw, while the third, Angeal, reminded still. Seeing everyone becoming hostile, (Y/N) stepped in front of them.
"Wait! They're not enemies! They're my family!"
Everyone was once again shocked, murmuring suspicion. Acris casted a side glance to his son.
"Zack, you know the law, yet you brought outsiders into our home?"
"These outsiders have been caring for (Y/N) like he was one of their own. He's alive because of their kindness. We owe them a great debt for what they've done,"
The Alpha wasn't convinced, but Jesica walked closer to the group.
"Is...is that true?"
Ruby nodded nervously.
"Um, yeah, pretty much,"
Yang stepped up more confidently, ruffling (Y/N)'s hair.
"This kid is as good as family to all of us. He's one of us,"
Jesica nodded before smile.
"Then you have our thanks. We could never hope to repay all that you've done for us,"
"It was our pleasure," Weiss assured.
The rest of the council (save for the three who had fallen unconscious and had to be carried to a sickbay) stood up and offered their individual congratulations and welcome backs to (Y/N) and thanking the Huntsmen. Zack at one point yanked his nephew away and led him towards the other 3 members of the Fated Four (all of whom towered over the boy)
"(Y/N), I want you to meet your honorary uncles: this is Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth,"
"Nice to meet you," the boy greeted nervously. Angeal smiled.
"It's good to see you again (Y/N). You probably don't remember us, but we met quite a number of times,"
"Yes, (F/N) insisted we be present in the life of his offspring," Genesis complained, though (Y/N) could tell he didn't really mean it. "I don't understand why,"
"You cried when he was born Genesis," Sephiroth retorted without a second thought, much to the annoyance of the red headed, black winged dragon. Angeal laughed before crouching down to (Y/N)'s level.
"Despite these two's...eccentricity, we were all pretty close with your dad since we were kids. We even served in the Fated Four together,"
"Dad was in the Fated Four?"
"Oh course," Sephiroth answered, "All children of the Alpha serve in the Fated Four. It is tradition,"
"How come he stopped?"
"You were born of course!" Zack declared happily. "No way my brother was missing a second with you!"
(Y/N) felt a slight shift in emotion from Angeal. It was brief, almost unnoticeable, but he could see in his soul the man was hesitant with Zack's words. However, it disappeared quickly as Angeal smiled.
"I'm sure you'll be joining us soon enough. I bet your quite the fighter with those weapons of yours,"
"Sure am!" The boy boasted, raising an arm into the air. Zack laughed.
"You should've seen him when me and patrol found them. He would've really messed me up if we didn't have Aura!"
"I see, so you could never win against your older brother, and his superiority over you continued through his son,"
Zack growled.
"Shut up Genesis, you couldn't beat (F/N) either,"
(Y/N) and Angeal laughed as the males butted heads while Sephiroth was unamused.
"I'm guessing they do this a lot?"
"Painfully so," Sephiroth answered, pulling them apart. Angeal chuckled.
"You'll see that plenty once we get you settled back in and start your training,"
(Y/N) looked at him confused.
"Settled back in?"
Zack broke away from Sephiroth to smile at his nephew.
"Of course! Mom's never gonna let you live back at your old home after what happened, so I'm sure we get your dad's old room fixed up for you, and in a year, you can start training to be a guard! It'll be great!"
(Y/N) felt shocked at their assumptions that he was staying. He was happy to see his old family again, but he had a new life with Team RWBY and they had just gotten their family back together. Plus, there was the whole 'save the world from the crazy, Grimm witch' mission. He couldn't just abandon it.
"Wait, I'm not-,"
There was a loud roar and all eyes turned to Acris, who had a glass of wine.
"In honor of my grandson's return, tonight, the city shall feast!"
There were loud cheers and Zack pushed (Y/N) back to the girls, who had been excitedly taking to his grandmothers about everything. He sighed and joined in the excitement. He'd set Uncle Zack straight later. For now, he followed his group, led by his grandmother and (GP/N) out to find some festival clothing, Zack trailing behind jabbering about some good friends of his (Y/N) had to meet. (Y/N) turned to wave goodbye to Acris, but he hesitated, seeing the blank look on his grandfather's face. Maybe he was just stoic by nature, but even his eyes seem to lack the glow people would have after being reunited with a love one, and (Y/N)'s soul sight didn't ease the tension.
His soul just looked.....

Hallow.

Alright, we're getting into things. In case the characters didn't make it clear, loved the FF7 Remakes and these characters. So, I'll include a few more characters, not all of them, but a few more. You guys can tell me who you want to see make a cameo and whether or not they're a dragon.
Bonus: Acris is another character based a mythological figure. Comment down below who you think he's a reference to.
