The Darkness' Light

Asriel ran as fast as he could, and when he finally reached Brittney's home, he knocked on the door, anxiously waiting for an answer. Sarah opened the door, rubbing her eyes. She looked tired. "Asriel? What are you doing here so late?" she asked.
"It's Brittney! She's not dead!" Asriel cried, looking happy; that angered the Delphox slightly. "What do you mean? She's buried in our back yard, like I need reminding. How on earth is she still alive?" Sarah demanded, glaring at Asriel; at this point, Jake had accompanied Sarah at the door.
"What's all this about? Do you have any idea what time it is, young man?"
Jake told Asriel sternly.  "To be completely honest, no. And I'm very sorry for waking you, but it's urgent! Brittney is still able to be brought back. I can show you!" Asriel replied, his excitement leaking into his voice.
Jake was shocked that Asriel would say such a thing, not believing a word of it. "You do realise it's our dead daughter you're talking about, right?"
Jake all but growled, clearly angry.
"Yes! I know that! But I can assure you, she can be brought back!" Asriel persisted. "How? How can you being our daughter back from the dead?"
Sarah asked, tears forming in her eyes as she thought of her daughter, how she desperately wanted to see her little girl again. "Do you know what Brittney was? Did she ever tell you about... being a light warrior?"
Asriel asked. Sarah and Jake looked confused. "No. What's a light warrior?" they both asked, looking very confused.

"A light warrior is a Pokemon chosen by Arceus to defend the world from a force of evil, carried out by Shadow Warriors. Brittney was one of them, and so am I. I was choosen to lead the light warriors to victory, and without Brittney, I can't do that; she was the one that helped me lead, helping me through all the rough times I had. I need her with me to defend the world and bring back the light. You need to let me retrieve her body so I can bring her back," Asriel explained, pleading with Brittneys father to let him do this;
Jakes was ready to explode. "Have you lost your mind?! If you think I'm going to let you dig up our daughter's body just to-" Jake then got an idea.
"Alright, fine. If you're really this 'Light Warrior' you speak of, prove it. Show us why we should believe you," Jake challenged, his arms crossed over his chest.

Asriel closed his eyes to better concentrate, trying his hardest to transform into the warrior he had taken the form of in the fight which caused this very situation. "Brittney... if you can hear me, help me show them... so I can bring you back."
Asriel pleaded, aware of the scrutinising looks he was getting from Brittney's parents. After a few more seconds, Asriel broke his concentration, praying he had transformed.

He was still his usual self.
"I don't see any reason to believe you after that," Jake coldly told him, scoffing like he knew this would happen. "No, Please! You have to believe me!" Asriel's tone was desperate as he tried to get her parents to believe him. "Goodbye, Asriel." Sarah closed the door, leaving Asriel alone and defeated. Asriel knew that time was running out; if he didn't get her body soon, it would be in no condition to rehouse her soul, and she would be gone, forever...

Only a few steps down the street, and Asriel heard a rustling in a bush to his left. Upon closer inspection, a Zoroark stepped out, grinning at Asriel. It was the one he had seen with Justin at school; his pure black clothing said as much. "Such a shame you couldn't convince that Braixen's parents to let you revive her. So sad," the Zoroark said as he held a paw to his heart mockingly.  Asriel glared at him, feeling a fire kindle in him.
"She's still here with me, so watch it."
he challenged, getting ready to fight for the one he loved. "Of course she is. Like I'm going to believe that!"
Shadow laughed evilly, approaching Asriel with a dark energy radiating from his paw. He took off his glove, showing Asriel that the energy was coming from his scythe mark.
"You see, I've been sent to extract Brittney's memories. As you have seen, my mark is a scythe, meaning a tool used for reaping a harvest. We know she gave them to you, and I am here to reap them from you. When, or if, she comes back, she won't even remember you. That would give us a minor advantage." Shadow said as he firmly placed a paw Asriel's head, the dark energy surrounding them both.  Ariel fell to his knees near instantly, feeling Brittney's  memories leaving his mind chunk by chunk. He wouldn't lose this battle of wills so easily however; he was a light warrior, and a light warrior never gave up no matter the odds. He began to counter the attempt as he chanted Brittney's name, dragging the memories back piece by piece. He gathered the strength to stand tall and place a paw on Shadow's forehead, causing Shadow to gasp in surprise ad he felt a mental stab to his mind, his grip on Asriel loosening slightly.

"You won't win... I already have most of her memories..." Shadow taunted, but Asriel wasn't backing down. He began to bring them back, causing Shadow to cry out in pain as his mind was tortured into surrendering the memories. And Asriel wasn't done there.

He found something... Surprising.

"You... you're... conflicted."
he discovered looking into Shadows eyes. Shadow was trying to get Asriel's paw off of him, to no avail; his grip was too firm. "You're being called to the light, through your ancestors!" Asriel cried, eyes widening in shock as he felt the light shining withen the Shadow Warrior, one that fought at the darkness that surrounded it, trying to finally shine the way to his heart.

Shadow finally managed to break free if Asriel's grip, breathing heavily with anger. "This isn't over. You will lose!"
Shadow threatened, his claws flashing dangerously; if he moved forward, he could quite easily kill Asriel where he stood.

"Shadow, don't feel threatened. Your ancestors are right. You belong on our side. Don't deny your true feelings."
Asriel told him, causing him to growl.
"Quiet! I'll never abandon the shadow warriors! They are my true companions, not you!" Shadow was clearly getting angry at this point; His darkest secret had been found out.
"You've got it all wrong. You need to learn to trust us. We're not your enemies, Shadow," Asriel said kindly, reassuringly even; Shadow stepped back, his eyes wide. "You are and always will be. The distortion world will condemn you for eternity, mark my words!" Just like that, he darted off, leaving Asriel alone. Shadow was conflicted, which made Asriel pity him a little; the Zoroark had to be fighting himself on a daily bases in order to stay as he is now. "The poor Zoroark must be torn. I can't imagine how he feels," Asriel said to himself as he walked home, thinking of ways to get to Brittney's body.

This war was full of unexpected surprises.
