oc #1

Here's my OC for Hyouka, the daughter of Houtarou and Eru. I legit just copied the Oreki's wiki page as a template, that's why it sounds a little 'official'. So pretend you're reading the wiki 😂

The name of her friend or her 'drive to solve mysteries' is Kouhei Nagano, a guy who just loves to tease her.

I used Rinmaru Mega Avatar Creator because I can't draw 😞

Ayaka Oreki (折木 彩華, Oreki Ayaka) is the protagonist of the Classic Literature Club Series and Hyouka- An Epilogue. She is the daughter of the series' first protagonists, Houtarou Oreki and Eru Chitanda. She is a member of the Classic Literature Club, just like her mother and father. Ayaka, like her father, is an apathetic person who doesn't like to do anything for others in general. She inherited both her mother and father's intelligence of deduction and wisdom, but only uses it because of the constant teasing of Kouhei Nagano.

Biography
Ayaka lives with her parents Eru and Houtarou, and her younger brother Hisato in Chitanda's traditional farming palace, with sometimes her aunt Tomoe visiting them in the summer. Due to her parents' work, they are mostly present in the morning and nighttime, leaving Ayaka and Hisato alone in the afternoon. Her typical afternoon consists of reading, watching TV and napping, and secretly playing video games.

As a student, Ayaka has been usually at the top of her school ever since middle school in Kaburaya Middle School, wherein she met with Kouhei Nagano. According to previous fiscal year intermediate examination results, Ayaka achieved outstanding results even with no effort as she was ranked as #17 out of 400 examinees. Ayaka enrolled in Kamiyama High School in April 2025.

Personality
Ayaka is commented to be very much like her father, being apathetic at times when one is usually empathetic. She has also a very passive and careless attitude, unknowingly having the same idea of "energy-conservation" as Houtarou, thus her actions are quite lethargic, especially when she is sleep-deprived, but full of energy due to annoyance if she had to do it. Despite her quiet demeanor, Ayaka gets visibly angry because of her exasperation of how the other club members cannot figure the "simple" mystery themselves. She is always seen irritated by Kouhei but keeps her thoughts to herself (usually) because she doesn't like expressing her emotions.

Even though she doesn't open up often in school, she seems like a different person at home, always happy and enjoying her mother's company, but is somewhat down because of Hotarou's absence.

Ayaka inherited the skill of deduction from her father, which she usually despises because of expectations of people outside her family and circle of friends. Also having the same issue with her mother's skills in academics, Ayaka hates it when she is always compared to her parents because she inherited what they too have, and hates the term "inherit" because, for her, it seems that the word makes her less unique than what she always aspired to be.

Ayaka may seem like a person who is lazy, but in her words, she would "rather not" do anything because that would raise the expectations. Her apathetic personality is due to the fear of lashing and being looked down upon if she actually tried to do something, she is always reluctant about helping others because she thinks she's not reliable or even trust-worthy to do it.

Ayaka is the type of person who claims that she hates praise from people but secretly likes hearing it, thus, always denying compliments from people in order for them to tell her again. She is also the type to easily get jealous, as Nodoka, her rival in the Classics Club, has also some skills of deduction, and Ayaka hates it when the attention is towards her "rival". She also gets jealous when Kouhei spends time with Nodoka, deducing the fact that she has an infatuation towards him. It is very clear that Ayaka likes him too but is very oblivious to the fact that Kouhei returns her feelings.

She can be quite mature sometimes by acting straightforward and frank. But most of the time, she acknowledges that her character is very immature.

Appearance
Ayaka is of average height at 163 cm (5'4'') and weighs 48 kg (106 lbs), which makes her underweight due to her height. She has curly dark brown hair, which was noted to be straight when she was a child, but due to laziness to comb her hair, it became unruly and has a short curly strand of hair as side bangs. When she wakes up, her hair is even unrulier. She has indigo-purple eyes like her mother.
At school, she wears the school uniform, but out of school, she wears tomboyish clothing in neutral colors. Though she said when she feels like getting Kouhei's attention, she would wear her mother's vintage dainty clothing.

Relationships
Houtarou Oreki- She is close to her father, and everyone sees clearly that she's her father's daughter. Their demeanors and personalities are very similar, as Oreki had the principle of energy-conservation when he was in high school.

When Ayaka was born, she was named after Mayaka Ibara and the kanji used for her name was chosen by Houtarou, which is "colorful, flower,'' referring to the rose-colored life he once feared and now accepts. Unbeknownst to Ayaka, she and her brother were the joys of his life. However, his job as a businessman  in the Chitanda corporation has been pulling him away from his family, thus, creating Ayaka starts hating him despite not really knowing the reason why.

Houtarou was barely present in her highschool days. However, he always calls Eru in the afternoon, wondering what happened to his two kids. Though he arrives late in the night, he always goes to Ayaka's room while she's sleeping to kiss her goodnight and apologizes for not being with her.

When the Wall Newspaper Club posts her comment and hurt she feels about her parents and expectations, she gets mortified and runs away from school. Houtarou in a similar matter, cancels his meeting and tries to find her, deducing that she would be hiding in a place no one really thought: back at the school. After consoling his daughter, he angrily goes to the school principal to bring down that issue and demands to make an investigation into how the incident happened.

When their family has counselling, Ayaka refuses to open up, but only does when they are back in their house. They fix the rift between them, promising her that he would buy an issue of their rendition of Hyouka and read her works.

Eru (Chitanda) Oreki- Ayaka has always been close with her mother, for she believes that her mother gave an effort to actually be with her family. She always tries to make her family happy, everyday her children are in school piqued her interest. Eru agreed right away to Houtarou's suggestion of her name, which she first thought was after Mayaka, but soon understood the meaning that Houtarou wanted.

Apparently, Ayaka and Eru were always trying to solve simple mysteries in order to keep the line of 'detectives' living. Ayaka's deductions were recorded by her mother, who is always proud no matter if her answers were wrong or right. Ayaka also says her mother's catchphrase of "I'm curious," marking her father with disdain and her mother with even more curiosity. Not knowing that her mother says this, she often says this to her father because his reaction is hilarious.

Eru always kept a close eye on her daughter without Ayaka really realizing it. Eru always supports her daughter's decisions, seemingly deducing her crush and tries to get them together. She knows what's wrong even though Ayaka says nothing. When the Wall Newspaper Club posts her comment about her parents, the school calls Eru, who immediately rushes to Houtarou to help her find Ayaka. With a very good understanding of her daughter, Chitanda manages to pinpoint where would she be most likely and suggesting to Houtarou that she may play on reverse psychology.

Understanding her daughter's anguish on expectations, she tells her constantly what makes her unique is how she chooses to use it, whether for the good or bad. If she wants to be remembered, then she would have to do something about it. She didn't have to be like her parents, for she can always follow her own path of choices.

Hisato Oreki- Ayaka and Hisato shared a close bond during childhood as seen through the family photos displayed in their house.

It was obvious that they were siblings except Hisato got their father's green eyes.

As they grew up, they became distant and acted how siblings act with each other: they are haughty, easily irritated, and they would do anything to humiliate the other. Hisato likes to make fun of Ayaka's fashion sense and deduced that she liked Kouhei ever since Middle School. Due to this constant teasing, especially in front of Kouhei, Ayaka usually turns to blackmail as an answer, constantly giving him around 100 Yen every time it happens.

However, when Hisato came home crying because of a failing mark in math, Ayaka did not hesitate to help him. Like all siblings, even though it seems that they hate each other, they are still concerned about each other's well-being. Hisato is similar to Ayaka and their father, however, he is prominently similar to their mother, Eru.

Kouhei Nagano- Being Ayaka's closest friend ever since middle school, Kouhei knows her inside out. According to Eru, they met when they accidentally crashed their bikes together on the way to school. The two got close after Ayaka chasing him just to get an apology from him. Unbeknownst to her, his reason is because he found her a little cute.

In Kayabura Middle School, they were always placed together in a class and were usually seatmates (his last name being Nagano and hers, Oreki). Despite being exasperated with him, she still enjoys his company and wants her to stay by her side even though she says that he's annoying and wants him out of her life.

Ever since middle school, Kouhei can act arrogant and mean, annoying her through constant teasing and name-calling. He tends to flirt with her, but Ayaka, being oblivious, tends to overlook his motive and thinks of it as nothing. He began to lose hope in pursuing her, therefore his suave personality died down a little.
(And she gets jealous but tries to hide it and fails miserably. Idk what else to say about him 😅)

Quotes
"I am concerned that every time I think like that, I lose a great number of brain cells. Brain cells are essential for living and thinking properly. I want to be alive thinking properly, thus, I shouldn't be using them so fast."

"Should I be remembered about how great my parents were? Or how I'm an outcast like my father? Everyone tells me it's amazing how I inherited my mother's wisdom and my father's deduction. They see it as my parents', not my very own. How can I be special when I have nothing special to present in this world?"

"To be honest, I am very fond of writing. It's the easiest way to scream and shout all your problems, all in ways that no one can really understand."

"No one really listens to lessons of morals and values. When people teach about consequences, do you think we would actually and really learn? No, we would always want to learn it the hard way."

"Bad consequences only exist when any of us fail to realize that there was a consequence in the first place."

"I'd rather not."

Trivia
- Ayaka shares many traits with her father:
1. Ayaka has a habit of twirling with her side bangs with cross arms whenever she's in deep thought, like her father.
2. Ayaka would like to live a "snail's life" as Houtarou said he similarly lived a "hermit crab's life", and the reason for that is because she'd rather move slower than a hermit crab.
3. Though born with Eru's appearance, Ayaka's laziness made her hair curly like her father's.
4. Her father's motto talks about energy conservation, while hers is about not wanting to lose brain cells.
5. She has the skill of deduction, just like her father, though it is noted to be somewhat flawed.

- Ayaka's name is based on Mayaka Ibara's name, but the kanji used for her name is "colorful, flower,'' pertaining to Houtarou's break through from old principle of a rose-colored life.

- Her pen name, Kurisu Shirasaki, is a play on "Agatha Christie" and "Sherlock Holmes".

- Before joining the Classics Club, Ayaka is an avid reader. She enjoys reading manga and mystery, being influenced by Mayaka and Satoshi. She has her own personal library.

- Ayaka was noted to be the youngest in the batch, being 15 while everyone else was 16. It was said by Eru that she was supposed to be in the grade lower, but was accelerated due to her intelligence and comprehension.

- Despite loving dogs and cats, she hates having pets due to feeling irresponsible for even having them.

So yeap, that's it. I don't have anything to say about her plot-wise. She's a tsun and a kuudere, with a constant sprinkle of 'kininarimasu' from time to time.

I know that her name doesn't sound that nice, but what I like about her name is the meaning, and I think that Eru and Hotarou would prefer a good meaning as compared to the sound of it.
