Chapter 2
Evan POV
First period, English. Great, the new guy's in here. He sits across the room though, so I'm okay.
Third period, math. He's in my class again. He's two rows behind me and one to the right.
Fourth period, health class. He's here too? And he sits in my group. I'm kind of nervous. I haven't looked at him much all day because he didn't come off as very nice yesterday. I wonder where he went. He wasn't in class yesterday.
The teacher looked at her clipboard. "And it looks like we have a new student. Connor Murphy came all the way from California. How's the east coast so far?" ((idk where they live but I feel like it's like the east coast yk?))
"Just great," he said sarcastically, not even looking up.
"Alright. Would you like to be partners with Evan? He'll be able to help you out with the work we've been doing."
I tensed up. Connor looked at me and smiled. Good or bad smile? Not sure. He said, "Sure. Thanks, Evan."
"No..problem."
We received handouts about depression and how to help a friend in danger. Connor snorted and turned the sheet over to the questions.
"Number seven is false, right?"
I looked at the question. "Yeah."
"Hey so yesterday? Sorry about that. You just wanted to help and be nice. No one ever does that for me. I reacted wrong."
"Oh. It's okay. No one's nice to you?" That last part sounded better in my head.
"Meh. My parents just don't care. They let me do whatever. My little sister Zoe isn't nice to me, but that's because she's my sister."
"I always wanted a sibling."
"Honestly, you can have mine."
"Deal," I joked and we shook hands.

I went to Connor's house on Friday to work on our health class project. He suggested that we worked after school and he seemed really excited. I think I have a friend! ((Aw Evan))
We walked to his house. I looked up when we got there. It was enormous. It's like a grapefruit and mine's like a grape. I'd get lost.
"We're here." He walked up onto the porch and knocked. A tall man opened the door and blankly said, "Hi Connor. Your friend?"
"This is Evan. We're working on a school project."
"Alright."
We took off our shoes and headed towards the stairs. A woman approached and said, "Hi honey! How was your day? Who's your friend?"
"Fine. And this is Evan. Project partners."
"Evan, nice to meet you. I'm Cynthia. Do you boys want something to eat?"
We both shrugged and Cynthia gave us each a granola bar. "You boys have fun."
A girl who looked a bit younger than me entered the room. "Hey mom, could you sign this? It's a syllabus."
Connor went to throw away his wrapper -- that was fast -- and the girl glared at him. Probably his younger sister, Zoe.
"Let's go upstairs."
I followed him up to his room. We didn't do as much work as we did talk and laugh.
