The Hobbit - Loki x Reader
It has been far too long since I have done an imagine for Loki. So, here it is. Its a little sweet, but I hope that you all enjoy.
Loki pushed his way through the door of the library at the Avengers compound. This was his only respite from his oaf of a brother and his insufferable Midgardian pets. The only place that he could be on his own and enjoy his love of literature. Well, he would say on his own, but he knew that that was never really the case. That there would always be someone else there whenever he needed a little quiet. Whenever he needed......well, dare he say, a friend.
To begin with, it had irritated him that one of Thor's annoying companions would spend as much time in the library as he did. He was used to a reading room being his, and only his. The God of Mischief sure that Thor had no idea that Asgard, or the compound, even had a library. At first, he had tried his best to get her to leave and not come back. He had huffed and grumbled. Groaned and pouted. Even trying a little magic. But when that didn't work, he had realised that he would have to put up with her presence. And now, all this time later, he found that he had actually begun to hope that she would be there. Liked it when she was there. The frost giant finding it hard to believe that he could enjoy the company of a Midgardian so much. Yet even though he knew that he liked her presence, he would still always sigh and roll his eyes, pretending to be irritated that she was there, whenever he would enter the room.
Over the time he had been in the compound, Loki had found himself growing fonder of the beautiful bookworm. The God of Mischief finding that he would actually spend more time talking to her, than reading. That the library would be filled with the sounds of chatter and laughter instead of a heavy, uncomfortable silence. Loki finally realising that he had found a kindred spirit. Perhaps even, dare he say it...........a soul mate.
Loki sighed and rolled his eyes as he walked into the library, and saw the little bookworm sat curled up in her usual seat. A large, comfortable, old armchair that sat next to a roaring fire. Her nose firmly set in a copy of one of the books that Loki had learned that she loved.
"Hi, Loki. I managed to find that old book I was telling you about. I left it on your chair for you." (Y/n) called out. Not even looking up from her book as she pointed to his equally old, comfortable armchair on the other side of the fire. (Y/n) trying not to smile as she heard him grumble and groan as he made his way over. The God of Mischief picking up the book before taking his seat.
"And what mind numbing Midgardian rubbish are you reading now?" Loki scoffed, as he watched (Y/n) appear to be completely immersed in the words on the page in front of her.
"The Hobbit." (Y/n) simply replied, as she licked her finger and turned over the page.
"And what in Midgard is a Hobbit?" Loki sighed. Doing his best not to smile as he looked at the book that (Y/n) had found him. A book that he had wanted to read for some time.
"Hobbits, or halflings, are a mortal race that live in Middle-earth. They primarily live in the Shire, but also there were families in Bree and the Gladden Fields. In this case, I am reading about a particular hobbit that goes by the name of Bilbo Baggins, and his journey to help reclaim the Lonely Mountain with a company of dwarves." (Y/n) explained. Noticing out of the corner of her eye that the god had moved forward in his chair. Seeming oddly interested by what she was saying.
"There is a Middle-earth? Dwarves live there. Dwarves like Eitri?" Loki asked. (Y/n) finally looking up from the first edition copy of Tolkien's famous tale.
"Well, in my book there is. And yes, dwarves live there. And yes, I think that you could say that they are like Eitri. Eitri's people were skilled forgers and blacksmiths, and he is King of Nidavellir. So, I suppose that he is a little like Thorin. But I don't know if Eitri ever had to deal with a dragon that took his home, and now sits under the mountain hidden by a huge hoard of gold. Or Orcs. Or giant spiders. Or a necromancer. Or Thranduil for that matter." (Y/n) replied with a chuckle, before she turned her eyes back to the tale. A tale that she was sure that she knew off by heart by now.
"Tell me more." Loki said, moving further forward in his chair. Finding himself increasingly interested in (Y/n)'s story. Sure that he had never heard anything like it before.
"Tell me of this Baggins. Of these Orcs. Of the dwarf called Thorin. And what is a Thranduil?" Loki added. His brows furrowing as (Y/n) laughed out loud.
"Thranduil is not a what, he is a who. He is the king of the Sindar elves that live in Mirwood. In truth, I think that he reminds me a little of you. He can also use magic, and be seen as cold, and aloof. Though I must admit that he has always been one of my favourites. Why don't you just read it, Loki? You'll enjoy it. I know it off by heart, so.........." (Y/n) explained, as she closed the book and handed it to Loki.
"Read it to me? Please." Loki asked. (Y/n) staring at him as he pushed the book back into her hands.
"But, I thought that you hated me being in the library. You are always grumbling and moaning at me. Surely you would prefer to sit here on your own and read it. You are always telling me that I stop you from reading. That I talk too much. That.........."
"Well......I have changed my mind. It is a god's prerogative. Please (Y/n)." Loki interrupted. His hand gripping hers as he looked deep into her eyes.
"O-o-okay. I suppose so. If that's what you want." (Y/n) replied. Her heart beating a little quicker as Loki moved back into his chair, let out a soft sigh, closed his eyes, and smiled slightly.
"Chapter one. And unexpected party." (Y/n) announced, as she opened the book.
"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbithole, and that means comfort." (Y/n) added, as she read out the first few lines in the book. A large smile kissing her lips as she continued on.
>>---------------------------------<<
Loki had sat, for what he was sure was hours in his comfortable chair. Not as though he minded. Listening to (Y/n) had been wonderful. She had done her best to change her voice for every different character, and he had listened intently as she had spoken of the hobbit burglar, and the dwarven company. Of the elves, the orcs, of the wizard called Gandalf. Of the last light of Durin's Day. And of the great dragon Smaug and the golden ring.
He had been taken back to when he was a child. When Frigga would tuck him into his bed and would show him magic and tell him stories. And for the first time in a long time, he couldn't help but feel happy. Content. Wishing to find himself nowhere else but here with (Y/n).
"Then the prophecies of the old songs have turned out to be true, after a fashion! said Bilbo."
"Of course!" said Gandalf. "And why should not they prove true? Surely you don't disbelieve the prophecies, because you had a hand in bringing them about yourself? You don't really suppose, do you, that all your adventures and escapes were managed by mere luck, just for your sole benefit? You are a very fine person, Mr. Baggins, and I am very fond of you; but you are only quite a little fellow in a wide world after all!"
"Thank goodness!" said Bilbo laughing, and handed him the tobacco-jar. The End." (Y/n) said with a soft sigh as she read the last words and closed the book carefully.
"What? Is that it? No! it can't be over. I want to hear more. What happens to Bilbo? To Gandalf? What about the Lonely Mountain and the bowman?" Loki asked. His eyes flying open as (Y/n) announced that it was the end.
"Well, if you wanted.......no, I am sure that you wouldn't be interested." (Y/n) replied as she got to her feet. Stretching out her body after being sat for so long.
"If I wanted what? I really think that I might be interested." Loki told her, as he stood to join her. Taking hold of her hand so that she couldn't leave the room.
"Well, tomorrow I could always tell you about the Fellowship of the Ring. About a Ranger and a dwarf named Gimli. About Legolas and four little hobbits called Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. And about the one ring to rule them all. I'll be able to tell you what happens to Bilbo. To Gandalf. But that is only if you don't mind me being in here. If you don't mind having me around" (Y/n) explained. A pink hue creeping up onto her cheeks as Loki pulled her close.
"I can think of nothing I would like more (Y/n). This library is as much yours as it is mine. And then when you have told me of them, I wish to know more about this land you called Narnia, and how you can get to it, through a wardrobe." Loki replied, offering (Y/n) his arm so that he could escort her to her rooms. The two having a feeling that their unusual friendship, might just have a chance of ending with rings of their own.
