She's gone - X-men - Part 8 - Old Charles x Old Erik x Reader
So, I couldn't resist doing another part to this story because I love Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. They have such a wonderful bromance, and I love their versions of Charles and Erik. I hope that you enjoy, and I think that there will be one final part which will have more Erik in it.
Charles rolled out of Cerebro. He was doing all he could to keep track of the mutants that had chosen to follow Erik. Charles wishing that his old friend could see that there was another way. That despite everything, humans and mutants could live together. That they could coexist. But no matter what he had tried, Erik had chosen his course. And there seemed like there was nothing more that Charles could do to dissuade him.
"Er......professor." Storm called out as she ran to catch up with Charles. Charles stopping and smiling up at the weather manipulator.
"There is someone waiting in your office. She says that it's important that she speaks with you. She said that she's an old friend." Storm informed the telepath. Charles sensing that there was more going on than the pale haired woman was openly saying.
"And does my visitor have a name?" Charles enquired. As he and Storm continued on their way down the halls. Charles smiling softly as the children began to come out of their classes for the day.
"I'm afraid that she wouldn't give me her name, professor. She just told me to tell you that she was a very old friend." Storm reiterated, as Charles tried to see the mind of his visitor. Furrowing his brows as he found that he could sense nothing. That he could see nothing. The telepath knowing that his guest could be no ordinary human. But unless it was Erik in his helmet, there was only one other mutant that he had never been able to see. A mutant that he hadn't seen for a very long time.

She looked out of the window onto the gardens below. A small smile pulling at her lips as she watched the children chase one another around the lawns. The scene bringing back both wonderful and sad memories. Memories of when she would walk down the paths with the two men in her life. The two men that she had loved. Did love. Images of them all together, laughing and joking as the sun set. Of her sitting on a rug in the arms of one man, before an accident had made him push her into the arms of his best friend.
It had been so long since she had seen the mansion. So long since she had seen the man that she was waiting for now. And it wasn't until this moment that she realised just how much that she had missed both. That she would give everything to be able to go back to that time. To go back before the accident. To go back before she had been made to leave. But even her powers could not turn back the clock. Even she couldn't change his mind. He had chosen his path. But it was a path that she couldn't and wouldn't, follow. And no matter how much she still loved him; she had had to leave.
He had changed so much since they had left the mansion. His views on humans becoming more and more extreme and final. His hatred for fellow mutants that didn't believe what he did, or see the world as he saw it, getting so radical, that now she herself feared for her life. And even though he had promised that he would never hurt her. Promised that he would always love her. His feelings, or what few feelings he appeared to have left, now seemed to be focused on a woman that she had once seen as a sister. And now all she could hope for was that an old friend would take pity on her. And welcome her back to the fold.
>>--------------------------------<<
Charles stared up at the door to his office, finding himself strangely scared to enter. He hadn't seen her in so many years. Hadn't seen her since Erik had taken her away from the mansion when he had confessed that he still had feelings for her. That he still loved her. He knew that he shouldn't have said anything when Erik had asked him over their usual game of chess. That he should have denied that he ever gave her a passing thought. But since they had brought her back from Huntersville, Charles had begun to realise what a mistake he had made. And with alcohol and self-pity no longer clouding his mind, he had finally been able to fully comprehend what he had lost. And when Erik had vanished with her, Charles had lost her all over again.
He wished that he could read her thoughts. Wished he knew what to expect. Yet even though Erik had changed, Charles doubted that she had. For even though it had been so many years since he had laid eyes on her, he would never believe that the woman that he had loved. Still loved. Would have changed in her beliefs at all. Charles hoping that she had finally come back to him. And this time it would be for good.

"(Y/n)?" Charles said softly as he summoned up the courage to enter his office. His eyes growing wide as (Y/n) turned to look at him. A small smile gracing her lips, as she saw the man she had not seen, in what felt like a lifetime.
Charles could barely believe it. But to him, she appeared only a little older than last time he had seen her. Even though he knew that in truth she was only a little younger than he and Erik. Yet even if it was his eyes deceiving him, Charles knew that to him, she was still beautiful.
"Hello Charles. I'm sorry about all the cloak and dagger, but I was afraid that you wouldn't want to see me." (Y/n) began as she moved from the window to where Charles had stopped right in the middle of the room. His eyes never moving from her as she stood before him.
"And why would I not want to see you, (Y/n)?" Charles asked, as he took her hand and kissed her knuckles gently.
"I thought that you might think that I had followed Erik. That I believed the same as he does. That I had changed. That like him, I was a threat. But I haven't, Charles. I swear. He scares me more than he scares anyone else. Erik is no longer the man I loved. No longer the man that stood in the main street of Huntersville in the pouring rain. No longer the man that swore never to let me go. I know he's there, deep down under all that anger and loathing. But even I can't find him anymore. And I knew that one day I would become another one of his victims. I could see the look in his eyes. I could sense the distrust. That was why I had to escape. That was why I had to come here, and hope that an old friend would still trust me enough to give me a place to stay. At least until I can find somewhere else safe. I don't want to cause you any trouble." (Y/n) continued sadly, as she brushed away the tears. Trying to smile, as she felt Charles grip her hand a little tighter.
"I would never believe such a thing of you, (Y/n). I know you better than that. Erik has let hatred get the better of him. He has let his past cloud his judgment. He has become blind to the fact that there are good people out there. Yet you, you I know see that there is good in the world. That like me, you know that we can live together with humans. I am just sorry that it took you so long to think of me. And I assure you, that you have already found that safe place. You can stay with me as long as you like." Charles replied. His heart skipping a beat as the woman he had pushed away so many years before, gave him the same smile that she would when she had laid in his arms, in their youth. His eyes fluttering closed as (Y/n)'s soft fingers gently caressed his cheek.
"What did I ever do to deserve you, Charles?" (Y/n) asked the telepath. Charles grasping her hand and kissing her palm, as he savoured her warmth.
"I think that the true question is, what did I do to deserve you, (Y/n)? Just promise me, that this time, if you leave me. You will say goodbye." Charles begged. His breath catching in his throat as he felt (Y/n)'s lips meet his forehead.
"I promise that this time, there will be no need to say goodbye." (Y/n) replied, as she placed her arms around Charles' neck and held him tight. Finding herself feeling safe for the first time in a long time. Knowing that she didn't want to be anywhere else but here, with Charles.
"Then, I think that we should get you settled into your old home. And I believe that there is another old friend of yours around here that would very much like to see you again." Charles smiled, as he took (Y/n)'s hand and led her from the room. The pair walking along the halls to find a certain mutant that (Y/n) hadn't seen since he had walked into the small diner where she had worked during her time in Huntersville.
