No fun - Part 8 - Tony Stark x Peter Parker x Reader
"You do know that she is just going to fly off as soon as she realises that this is a load of crap. Don't you?" Bucky grumbled, as Tony explained his plan to all the others. The rest of the team having to agree with the old soldier.
"Bucky has a point, Tony. (Y/n) isn't a fool. As soon as she sees that there is no real emergency, she is just going to turn tail and head off back to wherever it is that she's hiding out." Nat added. The Widow knowing that the billionaire needed to come up with something a little more convincing.
"Ah, but it will look like a real emergency. I spoke to Fury and managed to get him to agree to send a few of his agents over. They are going to make it look like they are attacking us, and (Y/n) will come and help............."
"And what if she fires at the agents? I mean, what are ya trying to do Stark? Get people killed, just so that you can try and pretend that you're a good father." Clint interrupted. Now sure that the billionaire hadn't really thought this through.
"Look, birdbrain. You and the others just make it look convincing and let me Cap and Peter take care of (Y/n). No one is going to get hurt. I'll make sure of that. And by the end of the day, (Y/n) will be home again." Tony replied. Clint rolling his eyes. The archer having a terrible feeling that this whole thing was going to go pear shaped. Especially given that Stark had organised it.
Peter had to admit that he wasn't too sure about the plan himself. His webs hadn't worked on (Y/n)'s suit before. They had just appeared to either just slip from the smooth surface of her black armour or be burned up as they had hit. And he didn't much like the idea of getting caught in that tractor beam that she had devised, again, either. Yet he knew something had to be done. He missed her. And it wasn't that he just missed his friend. He missed the girl that made him laugh. The girl that would sit on the sofa with him, and watch crappy movies, while they ate through their body weights in popcorn. He missed the girl that his Aunt May loved. The girl that would sometimes get him in trouble. But most of all, he missed the girl he loved. The girl that he had not been brave enough to tell he wanted her in his life, as more than just a friend.
Peter knew that her leaving had been, in part at least, down to him. Not that any of the others had said that. The blame being placed squarely on her father's shoulders. Yet he did blame himself. He had had his uncle taken from him, and in turn, he had taken (Y/n)'s father from her. He had come to see Tony Stark as more than just a mentor. The billionaire now more of a father figure in his life, than anything else. But despite how much he didn't want to lose that relationship, if it meant getting (Y/n) back, Peter would do whatever it took.
Over the months that she had been away, things had changed. The team had changed. The Avengers were a family. A crazy, mixed up, screwball kind of family. But a family, none the less. Each member willing to protect the others, as much as they were the public and anyone else that needed them. Yet with (Y/n) gone, the unit seemed to have come apart at the seams a little. The team not spending as much time together as they did. It obvious that (Y/n) had been the glue that had kept the odd mix of personalities bound to one another. Her workspace, the place that the team would levitate to after any mission. The laughter and music that came from the space, helping the team forget about what they had been through. But now that space lay quiet and dark. Not a hint of music, laughter or life. Peter no longer able to just walk in and see (Y/n) tinkering with something, just like her father did. Not able to see her smile. And Peter knew that the rest of the team, missed that just as much as he, or her father did.
Peter also had to admit that he was scared for her safety. He, like the others, had watched her escapades on the news. Had seen the Iron Knight fly into the most dangerous of situations. They had had reports from S.H.I.E.L.D, as to how she had faced Hydra units, all by herself. And though, by now, not one of them doubted what (Y/n) could do. Not one of them doubted that the Iron Knight knew exactly what she was doing. Sooner or later, she was going to find herself in trouble. She was going to come face to face with something that she hadn't expected. And then, they could lose (Y/n), forever.
"Now. Unless someone can come up with a better plan, I say we stick with this one. I'll send out the report that the compound is under attack. (Y/n) will pick it up and come and help. Despite all that has happened, I know that she won't stand by and let any of us be hurt. So, all you guys have to do, is prepare for the show. Just see it as a kind of training exercise." Tony finally added. Slapping a very anxious looking Steve on the back, before leaving the room.
"Do you think that this is going to work?" Peter asked, as he made his way over to the old soldier. The others making their way out of the room so that they could, as Stark had said, make this whole thing look real. Most still sure that there must be another way. Most sure that (Y/n) wouldn't be happy about the subterfuge. Yet what else were they to do? They had tried everything else.
"I don't know, Peter. (Y/n) has the intelligence of both her father and grandfather. Like Nat said, the slightest sniff of anything off, and (Y/n) could just turn tail and run. But I have to give Stark one thing. He's right when he says that (Y/n) will come to help. She won't let anything happen to any of us, if she can do something about it. So, all we have to do, is make sure that this crazy scheme doesn't get out of hand. And no matter what happens, we get (Y/n) to come home." Steve explained, as he got to his feet and placed his hand on the shoulder of the younger man. Peter nodding, before following after the captain. Hoping that Tony really did know what he was doing.
