A little secret - Part 3 - Bruce x Reader

My apologies for this being a little short, but I will make up for it in the next and final part. I hope that you still enjoy though.

"I don't think that that's a good idea." Bruce said nervously, as he, Tony and Steve moved outside the room. The three men leaving the others to watch over the mermaid that still sat at the bottom of the pool.

"He's right, Tony. A code green just to get (Y/n) to come up for air, is not what I would call the best idea." Steve added, as he looked between the billionaire, the doctor, and the door behind which, lay a fabled creature. Even though the captain wanted answers, just like everyone else. Having Bruce become the Hulk, especially within the confines of the compound, didn't necessarily seem like the wisest thing to do.

"Couldn't we just drain the pool? It might take a little longer, but............"

"No, it has to be a code green. It's the only way. If you Hulk out and we get you back in that room, I guarantee that (Y/n) will come up. She won't be able to help herself. You know what she is like when the Hulk is around, and she has that calming effect on the big guy. You'll be back to normal in no time, and we will be able to get the answers we want." Tony interrupted. Steve sighing and shrugging as Bruce looked at him. The captain unable to deny that Tony might actually have a point.

Even though Hulk would still stomp, roar, and bellow, (Y/n) had always had the most wonderful way of making him focus. To not just smash everything, anything, and anyone in sight. And then when the mission was over, their resident water baby could calm the big green guy, better than anyone any of the rest of the team had ever seen. So, Stark's little plan might just actually work.

"Fine." Bruce sighed, as he rolled up his sleeves.

"But its probably better if everyone else leaves. She is more likely to come up if its just her and Hulk. (Y/n) is a little naïve, but she's not stupid. She will probably realise what we are up to, you know that don't you?" Bruce added. Tony and Steve agreeing that once Bruce and Hulk got (Y/n) up from her watery depth, the rest of the team would return to find out why Fury, Hill and (Y/n) had thought to keep her true self, a secret.

"Ok. So, now I just have to get angry." Bruce said. Rolling his eyes as Tony stepped forward, with a huge grin plastered across his face.

"And that's my queue." Tony chuckled. Steve shaking his head and leaving the two men to it. The captain making his way back into the pool room, so that he could quickly explain the plan to the others.

                                                             >>-------------------------------<<

(Y/n) looked up from the bottom of the deep pool. It was obvious that something was going on. A sudden surge of activity, followed by the team quickly moving from the room, was not exactly what you would call unsuspicious. (Y/n) sighed and stayed firmly put. She may be many things, but stupid wasn't one of them. Mermaids were always cautious creatures. Never ones to rush in. It was in the blood you see. Well sort of. Maids of the sea. Mermaids. Sirens. Nymphs. Whatever mortals chose to call her kind, had always been sought after. Sometimes even hunted. Their songs blamed for sailors wrecking their ships on the rocks. Or even that they dragged unsuspecting men from their boats and took them down to a watery grave, to do with them, goodness only knew what. But it was all nonsense of course. Over her very long life, (Y/n) had never dragged any man from anything. Well, apart from his death. The mermaid saving many a man, that had been thrown overboard in terrible storms. (Y/n) sometimes nearly getting caught, when she tried to return the sailor. And so, like others of her kind, she knew that discretion was the better part of valour.

Suddenly, she heard a loud noise. Her head flying up as she heard the familiar roar of the Hulk. The sight of the big green creature stomping around the pool, making the mermaid's heart pound rapidly in her chest. Surly Bruce hadn't agreed to this just to get her to come up to the surface? Though if he had, (Y/n) knew that there was only one person that could have talked her dear sweet doctor into doing such a thing. And as much as she wanted to avoid all the inevitable question that were to come. She knew that she had to help Bruce. She knew how he hated turning into the Hulk. And she also knew that for some reason, the Hulk seemed to like her. The big guy appearing to calm as soon as he saw her. So, up to the surface she would go.

                                                         >>-------------------------------<<

"Hey big guy." A soft voice came. The Hulk stopping mid roar and turning to see (Y/n)'s head bob around in the water.

"(Y/n)? Why (Y/n) in water?" Hulk asked, as he crouched down by the side of the pool. The big green one, seemingly as confused about (Y/n) being able to be in the water, as Bruce had been.

"Er.......well. You see........." (Y/n) began. Sighing as she realised that it was probably easier to show the Hulk what she really was, rather than try and explain it. The mermaid knowing that despite the fact that the Hulk was still part Bruce, his mind didn't exactly work in the same way.

"I actually love the water, Hulk. I've lived most of my life below the waves. I'm a mermaid, you see." (Y/n) added, as she held out her hands for Hulk to take. The big green guy carefully taking (Y/n)'s tiny palms in his and pulling her out of the water. His eyes growing wide as saw her in all her glory. (Y/n) placing her hand delicately on the big creature's cheek as she got comfortable by his side.

"(Y/n) a fish!?" The Hulk continued. (Y/n) unable to stop herself from laughing as Bruce's alter ego stared down at the long shimmering tail. His fingers brushing over the blue opalescent scales. The big creatures surprisingly delicate touch, sending an exquisite shiver up her spine.

"Not exactly. Though I suppose.........Never mind about that now. First, why don't you tell me what made you angry?" (Y/n) asked. The maid of the sea smiling softly, as the Hulk placed his head on her lap. His large hand dipping into the water next to her tail. The green guy huffing through his nose, as he thought about what had just happened outside the doors to the room. The mermaid sighing again, as the Hulk said two words. Two words that spoke volumes.

"Tin man."
