The lost girl - Part 1 - X-Men x Avengers x Reader
This is going to be the beginning of another one of my X-Men/Avengers crossovers. I love doing these as I get to include all my favourite characters. This will probably be the start of another long imagine, but I hope you enjoy.
(Y/n) stared out into the Canadian wilderness and breathed deeply. The scent of the pine, her coffee, and the sound of the river that ran past the small cabin filling her senses.
She smiled to herself, a genuine smile that she hadn't shown for a such a long time. Secure in the knowledge that there was no way they could find her, not unless she wanted to be found. She had learnt to cover her tracks perfectly, and given her powers, not even Charles could see her mind.
Even though she loved her X-men and Avenger families, (Y/n) needed time to collect her thoughts and figure out my next step; would she really let Tony Stark ruin what she had? Would she let another man take everything away from her?
(Y/n) had ensured that the only person that she had contact with was Fury. She had met up with him the day she left the compound, giving him as brief an explanation as possible as to why she had to leave for a while. To her utter shock, Fury had seemed to understand, he had merely told her to contact him if she was in any trouble or wanted to return. (Y/n) had left soon after, without a single word to the rest of the team. She had felt guilty and missed them all desperately especially Natasha and Wanda, the three women having formed a real connection from day one and becoming the firmest of friends. (Y/n) knowing that out of everyone, Natasha especially would be disappointed in her for leaving as she had done. But this was something she had to do.
(Y/n) had had left the X-men with Charles' consent, and had been a part of the Avengers for two years now. Her mutation of ability creation meant that she could create any power or ability she wanted or needed, and could pass them to others, even if it was only for a limited time, if she needed to. This capability had proved more than useful to the team and she had found herself fitting in very quickly. And the fact that she was also able to pick up hand to hand combat and the use of weapons immediately, helped with her assimilation, especially with Clint. And meant that he, and the others, felt less of a need to worry about her if for some reason her powers were disrupted.
Like most mutants, (Y/n) hadn't had an easy life, her family abandoning her at an early age, forcing her to do anything and everything she had to do to survive. Originally, they had tried to put her into care but there was no way (Y/n) was going to stay in one of those homes, her life being made miserable by the other children who would bully and tease her because of what she was. So, she had quickly escaped, and spent most of her childhood on the streets, learning everything she could from whoever she could. That was until that one fateful day.
>>------------------------------<<
It had been a freezing cold day, and (Y/n) sat in front of a fire with a few other people, the only person she trusted on the streets sitting down by her side. Josh was much older than (Y/n), he had been a captain in the army for a few years until he was badly wounded in an explosion and lost his leg. When he had returned home his wife had left him, not being able to cope with his disabilities. And through a series of unfortunate events, he had ended up living on the streets. When (Y/n) first met Josh, she had taken an instant liking to the soldier. Despite everything that life had thrown at him he was kind and gentle, and he had taken her under his wing. And even though she had never told him about her mutation, she had always had a feeling that he knew, but didn't care.
(Y/n) made it her mission to look after her captain, he was the only one that had ever cared about her, and that had meant a lot, resulting in a strong bond to form between the unusual pair. (Y/n) would do all she could to make sure that the disabled captain was safe and healthy, and if they hadn't made enough money, (Y/n) would go and steal food just to ensure that they could both eat. It wasn't something so was proud of, but she did what she had to do to keep them both fed, often having to use her abilities to get away from the police or an irate store owner.
Josh grabbed her hands and rubbed them gently between his, trying to get some warmth back in her frozen fingers.
"Cold isn't it?" Josh asked, smiling as he placed his arm around her shoulder.
"Yeah Cap, just a little chilly." (Y/n) softly chuckled, sighing happily as she felt some warmth return to her cold body and numb fingers.
"We'll be ok sweetheart, it's not the first winter we've been through." Josh said, trying to reassure her that things would get better.
"I know Cap, I just worry about your health, you're getting weaker and you need that medication the doc prescribed." (Y/n) told him, as she pulled the prescription out of her pocket, hoping that tomorrow she could beg enough money so that she could get it filled at the pharmacists.
"Don't worry about me kid, I'm made of strong stuff." Josh told her, as he kissed her forehead gently. (Y/n) nestling her face into the crook of his neck, as the sound of his gentle heartbeat soothed her to sleep.
>>------------------------------<<
(Y/n) woke to the sound of an explosion, the shock of the blast knocking her to her knees. She looked around, the sound of more explosions going off around her as she covered her ears. She could see people coming from everywhere, storming through the old, abandoned warehouse where she, Josh, and the others had been taking shelter from the elements. She could hear screaming, the smell of blood in the atmosphere. (Y/n) ducked down, crawling behind some old wooden crates, become invisible as the unknown hoard seemed to be destroying everything around them.
(Y/n) sneaked a look, her hand covering her mouth to stop the scream that wanted to escape as she saw the faces of the people dead on the floor. Each one someone she knew. Then suddenly she realised. Where was Josh? She couldn't see her friend. Yet given the carnage that didn't mean that he wasn't among the bodies that lay sprawled on the ground. But she knew that if anything had happened to her captain, then someone was going to pay.
Before she could make a plan, everything fell quiet. The sudden silence forcing (Y/n) to try and calm her breathing, try to steady the pounding of her heart. (Y/n) sure that it could be heard by any one of the people that had killed her friends. As she continued to hide, (Y/n) felt something change in the air, as everything metal around her began to shake and move. A cool calm voice shattering the stillness.
"Miss (Y/l/n), I know you are there. Why don't you show yourself?" The voice called out. Its tone strong, dominant and controlled.
(Y/n) remained in her hiding place. Josh had always told her that a good soldier never revealed their location to the enemy. And (Y/n) had never doubted anything the Captain had ever told her.
"I am well aware of your talents Miss (Y/l/n) but using invisibility will only keep you hidden for so long, if you would like to look out from your current hiding place, I think you'll see someone you know." The voice continued, fear gripping the young mutant as she desperately tried to swallow the lump that has formed in her throat.
"CALL OUT TO HER!" Came the voice again, seeming to shout at someone. (Y/n)'s heart breaking as she heard the voice of the man she hoped had been able to get away.
"Hey kid, it's me. Could you do me a favour and come out?" Josh reluctantly called out. (Y/n) taking a deep breath before moving out of her hiding place, and slowly rematerializing. (Y/n) gasping as she looked over to Josh. A deep blue woman with red hair holding onto the disabled man. A knife pressed firmly against his throat.
"How you doin Cap?" (Y/n) asked, as she glared at the woman behind him.
"I'm ok kid, I'm sorry about all this. This bitch caught me off guard." Josh grunted, as the woman pushed the blade further into his throat.
"That's ok Cap, none of this is your fault, just sit tight, I'll get us out of this." (Y/n) replied. Feeling the anger grow inside her as the only person she saw as family grunted painfully.
"Oh, isn't that sweet. Protecting this pathetic human." The now familiar cold calm voice called out. (Y/n) turning to see an older man with a strange helmet on his head.
"Watch who you're calling pathetic, trash can head. That man is a hero and more of a man than you'll ever be." (Y/n) growled. Her eyes starting to turn red, as flames began to grow in the palms of her hands.
"Nah ah ah, I wouldn't do that if I were you Miss (Y/l/n), not if you want your little human to stay alive. Though I must admit that seeing your ability to create new powers when you need them, is quite impressive." The older man warned. (Y/n) reluctantly closing her hands so that the fire disappeared.
"I'm not here to impress you, old man. Who the hell are you anyway, and what do you want from me?" (Y/n) growled angrily. Stumbling backwards slightly as the man rose up into the air, and slowly moves down in front of her before finally lowering to the floor again.
"How ungallant of me not to introduce myself. They call me Magneto, my dear. And it is such a pleasure to finally meet such a unique creature as yourself. This beautiful lady holding the knife to your friends throat is Mystique, and all the others are our comrades." Erik replied, as he made some dramatic gesture with his arms seemingly trying to impress. (Y/n) doing nothing more than rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest.
"You say all this like I'm supposed to be impressed. Look, stop wasting my time and tell me what you want." (Y/n) hissed, just wanting this whole thing to be over and Josh safe again.
"It's quite simple, my dear. We want you." Erik informed her as he moved so that he was now standing toe to toe with (Y/n).
"Me?"
"You my dear have an exceptionally rare mutation, one that I have never seen in another. You would be a worthy addition to our cause." The magnetism manipulation continued, as he looked (Y/n) up and down.
Erik had heard of the unique mutant sometime ago. He had had his people out looking for her, but given the fact that she seemed to move around a lot, she had been hard to find. But now that they had found her, he was determined not to let her go.
"Your cause? You mean the one where you kill humans and any mutant that doesn't think the same as you do? Yeah, that's right. I've heard of you and your Brotherhood of Mutants. And I may have met some very bad humans in my time, but not enough to feel like I must destroy them all. Most are good, like the man your friend has by the throat. I will never join you, and nothing you can do or say will make me." (Y/n) scoffed before a yell behind her caused her to turn on her heels to see the blade being pushed further into Josh's throat. Causing a small stream of crimson to run down his neck.
"STOP! STOP IT DON'T HURT HIM!" (Y/n) beseeched. A small smug smile tugging at the corners of Erik's lips as he signalled for Mystique to stop.
"You can stop all this my dear young lady, by joining our little Brotherhood?" Erik told her. (Y/n) reluctantly nodding as she looked at Josh and gave him a small smile.
"Let him go, safe and alive and I'll join you." (Y/n) informed the mutant before her. Knowing that she would do anything to save the old soldier.
"NO! SHE AIN'T GOING ANYWHERE WITH YOU!" Josh suddenly shouted out. The disabled man doing all he could to struggle from the blue woman's strong grip.
"Will you shut that creature up my dear." Erik said. Mystique planting her hand firmly over the man's mouth. The shapeshifter letting out a screech as Josh bit into her flesh.
"Sorry kid, I can't let you do that for me, I love you too much!" Josh said softly. Sending (Y/n) his characteristic smirk and a wink before trying to throw his head backwards to smash into the face of the woman behind. Mystique moving quickly. Grabbing Josh's chin and pulling his head violently up and drawing the blade across his throat. A frightening gurgle coming from his throat as he fell to the floor, and (Y/n) let out an ear splitting scream.
