Not another Hobgoblin! - Part 1 - Leonard 'Bones' McCoy x Reader

Unknown to most, (Y/n) was Commander Spock's younger sister. She had been sent away from Vulcan when she was a child, when it became obvious that she had more human traits than Vulcan. She was taken in by Star Fleet on Earth and used your mother's maiden name of Grayson, separating herself from the father she hated so much, due to what she saw as her abandonment by an unemotional, uncaring creature. Outwardly you most certainly looked like a Vulcan, other than her skin which was much pinker and warmer looking than other Vulcans. (Y/n) could be cool, emotionless, obeying the rules to the letter on one hand, and then on the other her temper could be violent, constantly trying to control all the emotions that came with her humanity.

She had had a difficult childhood, her Vulcan side had made her a target for some, most of these conflicts ended with her using her fists, much to the shock of everyone. By the time she had graduated Star Fleet as their youngest ever graduate she had built up quite a reputation for herself; her knowledge of human martial arts and fighting techniques was only rivalled by her knowledge of weapons and battle tactics. After a number of years as a chief science officer at Star Fleet Headquarters, the admiralty decided that it was time for (Y/n) take her first mission into space.

Despite her outwardly stoic appearance, (Y/n)'s excitement at the possibilities a new life had to offer gave her butterflies in the stomach; she had been assigned to one of the newest ships in the fleet, the USS Enterprise, and Admiral Pike had told her all about her soon to be captain.

"He's a good kid (Y/n), he's going to be an excellent captain but make sure to watch out for him. He has a terrible reputation with the ladies, and I wouldn't want you to get hurt." The admiral told her, gently touching her face. Christopher Pike had become a father figure to her over the years, having taken her under his wing a long time ago.

"Sir, I believe that I am perfectly capable of handling Captain Kirk. Any advances towards me would be illogical. The Captain has his job and I have mine, I will not let anything ruin this opportunity, especially not some over sexed human male." (Y/n) said, smiling at the admiral slightly as she said the last part, making the admiral let out a deep laugh.

"That's my (Y/n). I am very proud of you; I am sure your family are too." Pike told her, only realising what he had said when her face turned dark.

"Sir, you are my only family, I have no other." Pike looked at her sympathetically.

"I'm very proud that you think of me as family (Y/n). Now I think you should make your final preparations and I will see you at the shuttle bay in the morning."

The next morning, (Y/n) made her way to catch the last shuttle to the Enterprise. For some reason Admiral Pike had wanted her to be one of the last onboard, she didn't know why but she presumed that he had his reasons. Looking around the crowded shuttle bay, she finally saw him.

"Sir, I'm glad you could be here."

"I wouldn't miss it for the world (Y/n). When you get on board you are to report directly to Captain Kirk on the bridge. He already has your orders. You are to work alongside the ships first officer." He informed her, kissing her gently on the cheek.

"Remember that you are a truly gifted officer, and no matter what surprises this mission holds for you I know that you will face them." Pike said, squeezing her hand.

"Thank you, sir, I promise I won't let you down." (Y/n) said, standing back and saluting the Admiral.

"I know you won't, you never could. Now get going." Pike said with a chuckle, as he pushed her towards the shuttle.

(Y/n) looked out of the window; there she was Star Fleets flag ship, the USS Enterprise, her new home. As they finally docked, (Y/n) grabbed her bag and disembark.

"Commander Grayson?" A voice called out from behind her.

"I'm ensign Jones, I've been sent to escort to your quarters and then to the bridge. Please let me take your bag." The young man said, smiling as he reached out his hand.

"Thank you, ensign Jones." (Y/n) said, as she passed him the bag that she had slung over her shoulder.

"If you'll follow me please."

(Y/n) followed the man through the labyrinth of corridors, attempting to get her bearings in the immense ship, the surroundings were clinical, but there was most definitely something special about the Enterprise.

"Here we are Commander, your luggage is already in there and if I could ask you to change into your uniform straight away, the Captain is most interested to meet you. I will wait out here for you." The young ensign said, motioning towards the now open door.

"Thank you, ensign." She said, slowly making her way into the unfamiliar room.

She didn't have any time to take in her new surroundings, as she quickly changed and followed the man.

The turbo lift stopped, the doors opened and in front of (Y/n) was the brand-new bridge of the USS Enterprise. People are rushing around readying for the departure of the ship, but they weren't too busy to notice the young beautiful female Vulcan that stood looking out of the lift.

"Just one moment Commander, I'll get the Captain." The ensign told her, motioning for her to exit the lift. Ensign Jones moved over to a Blonde man in a yellow shirt, whispering quietly in the Captains ear. The Captain turned to face (Y/n), and despite herself she couldn't help but smile as she looked at him; that smile, those boyish good looks, and those eyes, oh those eyes, she could see how he could turn a normal girls head.

"Commander Grayson, it's a pleasure to finally meet you, you come highly recommended by Admiral Pike." The Captain said, stepping closer.

"Captain Kirk, Admiral Pike has also informed me about you. It is a pleasure to meet the man behind the myth." Kirk looked at her strangely, for a moment he appeared not to know how to take her comment, then a smirk formed on his lips and he laughed.

"Oh, Pike did tell you about me didn't he, I can see you are going to be trouble." He said, continuing to laugh.

(Y/n) raised an eyebrow. "Captain, that would be illogical, why would I cause you any issues, especially ones that could prove detrimental to our mission?" She said, looking at him slightly confused.

"Oh god, he's going to love you". Kirk said with a smirk.

"My role here Captain is not to be loved, my role is to do my duty."

"No Commander Grayson, what I meant was that my first officer is going to enjoy working with you, he's also a Vulcan, he should be here in a moment." Kirk said, smiling at the woman.

"Your first officer is a Vulcan? I was not aware of that fact." (Y/n) could feel a sense of unease in her stomach, she had not seen another Vulcan in years, but she knew that it was more important than ever that she controlled her emotions.

"Ah, there you are." Kirk said, motioning to someone that had just come out of the lift.

"Commander Grayson, I would like you to meet my first officer Commander Spock."

(Y/n) turned to face him; she could feel a knot of anger in her stomach as her eyes meet his, all the hatred she for that name and now he is right in front of me, he was the one that was kept, he was the one that was loved. Spock looked at her strangely, could that be tenderness, guilt, compassion in his eyes? Whatever it was she didn't care.

"Ko-kai, is that you?" Spock asked, as he moved closer to her, (Y/n) choosing to ignore his question.

"Commander Spock, I trust that our time together will be productive." Spock looked slightly distressed at her response, as he stood there open mouthed. Could his stoic Vulcan logic have deserted him? The notion gave (Y/n) a sick satisfaction.

"Captain. If my services are not required straight away could I ask that ensign Jones show me around briefly?" (Y/n) asked, turning to ignore the still stunned Vulcan.

"Commander Grayson, anyone that can shut up Spock deserves a Captains tour." Kirk chuckled, leading her back towards the turbo lift.

After meeting Scotty in engineering, it was now Doctor McCoy's turn.

"Hi Bones, do you remember that new patient I told you about?" Kirk asked as he walked happily into the med bay with (Y/n) right behind him.

"Oh, yeah the new green blooded hobgoblin, isn't one of them bad enough?" Bones asked without even looking around. Kirk coughed uncomfortably behind him, making Bones turn around, seeing Kirk and to his shock the Vulcan in the doorway.

"Bones, I'd like you to meet Commander Grayson," Kirk said nervously, as Bones rose from his chair.

"My apologies Commander Grayson, it's a pleasure to meet you." Bones said extending his hand.

"Firstly, Doctor McCoy, if you are going to insult me at least have the common decency of looking at me when you do it." (Y/n) told him, as she took a step closer to him, her arms still crossed firmly over her chest.

"Secondly, I don't know whether Commander Spock indulges your little tirades, but I assure you that I won't. I am your superior officer and you will treat me with the respect that my rank deserves. Finally, the less you and I see of one another the better, I have no intention of forcing you to perform your Hippocratic oath on another Vulcan. I don't want you anywhere near my hobgoblin blood." The anger in her voice was evident, as she stared daggers at the doctor.

"Captain, thank you for the tour. Now if I am not required for a little while I would like to return to my quarters." (Y/n) said, never taking her eyes from Bones.

"Of course, Commander. I would like you report to the bridge at 0800 hours tomorrow morning. Commander Spock will fill you in on your duties then." With that (Y/n) nodded to the captain and took her leave.

"Jesus Jim, I thought Spock was bad, but she's something else. She's going to be trouble. I've never seen such a beautiful Vulcan before though." Bones said, grinning as he slumped down in his chair.

"Why didn't you tell me she was there? That's not exactly the first impression I'd have liked to have made."

"I didn't get the chance Bones; you'd already put your foot in it, before I had chance." Said Kirk, patting his friend on the shoulder.

"She's not like Spock, her skin colour is different and there is definitely emotion there. If looks could kill, I'd be dead, are you sure she's Vulcan?" Bones chuckled.

"I don't know a lot about her yet, only the little bits that Admiral Pike has told me about her. I'm still waiting for him to send her file through. The only thing I know is she left Spock speechless."
