๐ฌs the two made their way back to village, it appeared to be on a separate piece of land, on a small isle, surrounded by more and more trees, connecting the two pieces of land was a small oak bridge that seemed to be well kept. No rotten wood, just like as if it was brand new.
"It's just over the bridge and past a few trees, we can go through the back of the house." She explained, knowing that her people weren't too fond about the idea of having such monsters roam their streets.
Orkos followed her over the bridge, stopping in the centre as some fish passing under the bridge caught his attention. She stopped too feeling that he had stopped behind her, turning around to see what was going on, she glanced in the direction he was staring at and noticed the fish. She really enjoyed his fascination and curiosity with the world.
"Those are fish, quite beautiful aren't they?" She mentioned, leaning up against the railings of the bridge to keep people from falling into the water, "Yeah." He replied watching the swim off elsewhere as the fish seem to be aware of their presence.
"Anyways, let's get going, we'll have to get going before someone sees us." She said insisting him forward and off of the bridge, "Oh okay then." Orkos said, moving along forward before once more Elizabeth took the lead again. It wasn't long until the two arrived at the back of a large wooden house, it was pretty big actually, seemed that Elizabeth's family was doing well off of selling baked goods.
She went over to the side of the house where outside of a window hung a long rope with a few knots leading up it. She tugged on it, making sure it was still sturdy enough to hold up her weight, "Let's go, you first." She said stepping aside. He gave her a concerning look, "Uh, why can't we just go through the front door, I've seen people do that to exit and enter their homes." He mentioned, gaining knowledge from the village he saw earlier. "Right, well, I'm not really suppose to be out right now, my father is still at the shop but my brothers are looking after me right now, they just assume I'm sleeping, I also locked my bedroom door so they wouldn't come in a see me gone. And surely it would be odd if I randomly came stumbling through the front door." She explained.
Orkos thought about it for a moment, "Oh okay then." He said before grabbing a hold of the rope and began climbing up with ease, using the knots as support as he stumbled in through the window, after he was inside the house, Elizabeth cane following right after him, with no witnesses in sight that she had brought a demon into the house. She quickly hauled in the thick piece of rope back into her room, untied the end from her leg of her bed and threw it into her closet to remain hidden until further use.
The girl unbuttoned her cloak and hung it up, finally turning back to Orkos, "So this is my room, nothing really special, but it's mine so I like to think so." She said looking around the familiar space a bit. "No no, it's really nice, really special." He said, thinking that's what he was supposed to say. She laughed for a brief moment, "You can be funny sometimes, even if you don't know it." She explained, "Come on, we can head on downstairs to the kitchen and begin with whatever you want to make down there." She added, while the lock clicked while she turned it open, peaking outside before just leaving him.
Was he supposed to follow? He didn't want to get lost in the house even though it would probably be easy to find her if he wanted to but just in case things didn't go as well as she had in mine, it would be better to stick with her.
He rushed out of the door, seeing her turn a corner as he caught up to her, following her down the staircase, she made her way into the brightly lit kitchen while one of her older brothers sat in there, eating some dinner, "Hey Elizabeth, I tried calling you down earlier but you must of still been-" he stopped himself when he noticed this creature following behind her as she entered the room, "Elizabeth, watch out!" He yelled and with one swift motion, stood out of his seat, grabbing a kitchen knife off the counter and pulling his sister close to him, keeping her safe from the devil who just entered the room.
"Evan, stop it! This is my guest!" She yelled at him as she struggled for him to let her go, "No way, you can't just keep bringing these random things into the house! Especially demons!" He said before turning to Orkos, "What do you want demon!? Just get out and leave us alone!" Even shouted pointing the knife at Orkos in defence while Orkos backed up a bit. "N-nothing I just-" Orkos tried to speak but Elizabeth cut him off for a second, "Hey! Stop doing that! If Orkos wanted to hurt me, I bet he would've already done it by now!" She shouted back at him, trying to get him to understand that everything was okay.
And everything seemed to be okay until Evan accidentally out of all the commotion going on in the house swung the knife around, slicing Elizabeth right across the cheek while she tried to take it from his hand.
"Oh my god Elizabeth! I'm so sorry!" Evan panicked setting the bloody knife down, while she held the side of her face, stopping the wound to bleed out anymore.
He hurt her, why would he do such thing? Orkos grew angry at this point and reached quickly for the knife Evan had set down and began threatening him, "Back away from her!" He growled, "Stop it Orkos, it's fine, it was an accident." Elizabeth tried to assure him that he didn't mean it, but all Orkos could see was the pain in her eyes and the dripping blood, coming out from between her fingers from her cheek. He remembered the time when he felt pain and it was the worse feeling every, and he didn't want anyone doing it to Elizabeth.
"But he hurt you!" He yelled out still furious, "It was an accident! Put the damn knife down!" Evan yelled while standing his ground, while Orkos was having none of it, "Then why don't you back off!?" He shouted before the front door swung open, in came Elizabeth's other brother, Charlie and their father, and the scene that played before the two didn't look too good on Orkos' side of things, "What the hell is going on!?" Charlie ask after storming in, first to see the scene then after came their father, and even for a baker, he still looked very intimidating, "Hey you! Leave my family alone!" He said thinking that this demon came into his home and began attacking his children with a knife, and literally that's what it looked like.
Their father picked up the fire iron that was leaning against the wall next to the wood oven still yelling a he began to approach Orkos, "Get out! Before I kill you!" He screamed, "Father stop! He didn't hurt me! Stop it!" Elizabeth screamed being held back by Evan, Orkos had no choice but to leave so he made the same escape like he did last time, faded into a dark shadow, a slithered away and out the front door before any harm could be done to him, the kitchen knife fell to the ground, digging straight into the floorboards.
"What's wrong with all of you?! He didn't do anything wrong until everyone started freaking out around him! Evan accidentally cut me father, it was him!" She screamed, shoving Evan away as he lessened his grip on her, "That's no excuse young lady! He was in our home pointing a knife at you two, who knows what he could of done next if I didn't arrive on time!?" Their father yelled back, not excepting his daughter's awful attitude toward him, "Well you're not any better. Put the damn fire iron down." She scowled at him, crossing her arms, "Go to your room young lady! And you're not coming out until I say so!" He spat, slamming the fire iron back down where he took it from.
Elizabeth stormed up the flight of stairs as tears welled up in her eyes, she began to cry as she walked down the hall and slammed her bedroom door.
"Dad, don't you think that might of been a little harsh?" Charlie asked before Evan picked up the dangerous knife still present on the ground, "It's been a rough day son, I don't want to talk about any of this at the moment, you boys clean up, I'm heading to my room." He said, leaving in the same direction as Elizabeth before walking in the opposite direction of the hall towards his room, as he silently kept to himself probably to have some rest.
The two boys looked at each other, not knowing what to say, but, did as they were told and started cleaning up the messy kitchen.
Further out into the trees, still present on the little isle and not on the main land, was Orkos, back to his natural form, panting in fear, he began to feel this weird feeling in his chest, a pain, but not the same pain from before, less physical and more emotional, as tears came trickling down his warm red cheeks, he stifled a cry for a split second.
"What am I doing wrong!?" He shouted, upset, as he slammed both of his fists against a nearby tree. "I tried to protect her, that's supposed to be good, right?! Right?!" He screamed loudly, giving himself a headache as he felt the pain let loose, a river running down his face, hitting the soft earth beneath him and soaking it up.
He dug his nails into the tree as she fell to his knees, ripping some of it off in the process, "He hurt her and I didn't do anything... why do they all hate me...?" He mumbled to himself, wiping away the fresh tears on his face, feeling the pain in his knuckles as he watched them bleed out from hitting them so hard.
Orkos waited there silently as he felt like he had nowhere to go, like he was now alone, but it didn't take long until a familiar voice came echoing through the trees. "Orkos, where are you? I'm so sorry! Please come back!" The girl shouted.
His heart began to beat faster and faster at the sound of her voice, he wanted to call out to her but he couldn't, he didn't have the heart to, there had to be something wrong with him for the rest of her family to act that way, so was she just someone he had to leave behind, forget her like they never even met in the first place.
"Please come out Orkos!" She plead, as her voice seemed to get farther as she continued to call yet no answer in return, thinking that he just decided to leave. "Wait! I'm here! Elizabeth Wait!" He shouted, no he couldn't leave her, she was the first person who has been kind to him and he would never take that for granted.
He quickly stood up and ran in the direction of her voice, "I'm over here!" He shouted, the tears drying off his face as he ran.
Soon enough he saw her standing in the middle of nowhere looking around, "Elizabeth!" He said, happy to see her again, "Orkos, thank heavens I found you!" She said running up to him, embracing him in her arms, "I'm so so sorry." She said, begging for his forgiveness, "Sorry, why are you sorry, you did nothing wrong. I should be the one to be sorry." He explained, "No no, they ran you out of the house, nobody should be treated like that, never." She stated.
"How about we just say we're even okay. Oh god your face, we need to get you back there and fix you up." He said backing up a bit, not wanting to hurt her if he made any wrong move,
"No, I never want to go back there ever again."
