Getting home
I stared at Mr. Maxwell my mouth agape with disbelief. At first, I thought that Krandal a.k.a Cornor was lying. The logical excuse was that he wanted to clear out some bad records of him. I mean, who believed in spies anyway? I guess he isn't the bad boy I imagined.
Mr. Maxwell was about to put two fingers in his mouth but stopped when Krandal shouted," Wait! At least tell us how you knew we were here."
His eyes moving all around the yard and I could tell he was looking for something to get out of this helpless situation or at least to keep Mr. Maxwell from bugging us.
"When Bianca Waters ran to me saying that there was someone in my office, I immediately guessed that the agency sent one of their agents to steal something from me. I rushed to my office with Bianca in tow and when I found no one, I was at first furious. I then came back to my senses and checked my files. Just as I had feared, they were gone. I lost hope for a second but immediately regained it when she told me who she was expecting to be in my office. I asked her to tell me the whole story, and she did, surprisingly. I didn't punish her for the things she did to you, Alexa, because she had helped me, a lot. I knew you were such a nerd and so you would slow the agent down with either boredom, or stuff you forgot. I sent the janitor to keep an eye out for you and to lead you here by all means, and here we are."
He smiled maliciously then asked," Now, where were we?" He put his two, large fingers in his mouth and let out an ear - splitting whistle. I could hear metal clink from far away and I guessed that that was our ticket to death.
I looked at Krandal expectantly and he looked back at me helplessly, obviously crushing my hopes. "There is nothing here that I can use. There are some really useful things, I know. But I cannot lift them," he whispered.
"Those stupid tycoons refused to give me strength gloves," I heard him mutter to himself. Two giant, metal dogs appeared and sat on either side of Mr. Maxwell. "So," he smiled at me," just get me the files from that delinquent and you will get justice for how Bianca treated you and even, better grades." He said then winked at me.
Who the hell was he to think that I'd even consider his offer?! "No thanks. I like earning good grades. Anyway, you're the one at fault here," I answered with no ounce of fear in my voice. "Well," he laughed," your loss."
He snapped his fingers and the metal dogs started heading towards us slowly. "And destroy the files for me too, pups, " he instructed the metal dogs and left. He wasn't even going to watch us get torn to pieces by his beasts?! And who the hell calls two gigantic dogs 'pups?'
"Use the grappling hook!" I hissed at Krandal. "It's jammed," he snapped, then mumbled to himself," Those dummies gave me a malfunctioning one!"
I looked around and saw the gigantic magnet that I had made with my class two years ago. For now it was inactive but a little electricity would make it work again. "Distract them, I'll take care of the rest," I said and started rushing to the magnet that was leaning against a wall. It was so big and heavy that my teacher had to hire a crane to get it here. The school decided to by their own crane but it got overused and was left here to rust.
Krandal suddenly took my hand and asked," Are you sure it's not supposed to be the other way round?" I could see the fear in his eyes. Whether the fear was for me or for himself, I didn't know. "I've got this," I said then ran towards the large magnet.
I looked over my shoulder and saw Krandal taking a long metal rod from his jacket( I don't know how the heck it fit there) and shout," Wanna play fetch?" I couldn't help smiling at his courage.
I turned back to my work. All I needed was to restart the damn thing. I looked around and spotted some wires covered with trash, went over to them, removed all the trash and found that the tangled wires were connected to a giant power switch. What was a power switch doing in the dump? Aaarggh! Concentrate Alexa!!! Krandal could die at any moment.
All that I needed to do now was to untangle them and connect them to the north and south poles of the magnet. The untangling part was the easy part because I was used to untangling dad's earphones when he wasn't able to. The hard part was the connecting. How was I supposed to lift the gigantic thing, connect the southern pole and climb to connect the northern one.
I looked around once more and saw the old school crane. Sure it was old and rusty but it was my best shot. And by the looks of things, I needed to hurry, because the dogs were getting harder to distract.
I climbed as fast as my lazy legs could go and got to the operator's seat. I started the crane and to my absolute joy, it worked! I picked up the magnet and lay it to its side. This was actually easy. It was just like using my hand. Because of that, I decided not to waste time running around with wires and connected them using the crane and held them together. I left the crane at that position and ran to turn on the power switch.
I almost fell from the crane due to my hurry, but I stabilized myself and went to turn on the switch. Thank God the switch had so much power, because the magnet couldn't have recharged that quickly.
"Get them here!" I screamed at Krandal. He followed my orders and the plan worked successfully. They got stuck there and I laughed together with Krandal at the pathetic picture of the beasts trying to get unstuck.
Something unexpected happened: One of the dogs, touched the uninsulated part of the wires and started getting electrocuted. In the process, he touched the other dog and they got fried together. Even if they were the enemy, I didn't feel happy. It was such a horrifying scene.
The way the dogs whined helplessly broke my heart. That was when I realised that they didn't deserve it. The bad guy was the boss, not the dogs. They were just being faithful to their master and following orders blindly. And worse still, maybe they were puppies. I just killed two little innocent puppies!
When I couldn't stand the sad sight anymore, I ran to the switch and turned it off. "Hey, why did you do that?" Krandal asked me amid laughter. I glared at him and snapped," How could you be so heartless?!"
His laughter died down then he said," To be a spy, Alexa, you need to be heartless. If not, you will never get what you want."
"Then I'm never becoming a spy. No matter what your stupid agency tells me," I told, more like screamed, him.
"So they already asked you?" He asked.
"Yes. And if those are the kinds of rules you have, forget about me joining!" I yelled. He smiled then said," There is a lot more to it, just give me a chance to show you." I studied him and then said," This weekend at seven in the morning. Right now I've got to get home, explain to my parents where I was and do homework. Bye!"
I picked up my bag, took one last look at the roasted dogs and started heading home. I stopped in my tracks when I heard Krandal say," Let me give you a ride home... as a sign of gratitude. For helping me." I turned to face him and asked," A ride on what? I don't see any car."
"Just accept or decline, nerdy," he said with a goofy smile playing on his lips.
"I accept. Just because it will be faster." I replied, "and please don't call me nerdy, I hate that name."
"I make no promises." His smile grew wider as he removed a whistle from his pocket and blew it loudly.
A giant drone came silently and rested at his feet. Damn it! I hated this drone, and by the look on his face, he knew it. I got myself into this one, so I had to suffer.
He stepped onto the drone and I did the same. I noticed him wincing slightly as he did so. Come to think of it, he was holding his ribs when he was laughing at the dogs, as if he felt a lot of pain.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when he asked, his smile growing wider, " Why are you staring at me like that? Like what you see? " I looked him in the eye, ignoring the stupid and cliche last question and asked," Did the dogs hurt you? Are you okay?" He gave me a heart stopping smile and asked jokingly," Are you genuinely worried about me?"
"Answer my question," I said. I wasn't one of the girls who would get easily distracted by a boy's wonderful smile. He got serious then said," Nothing warm water and painkillers won't fix. Now for the ride home ..." His goofy smile back on his face, he made the drone rise quickly into the air.
I hugged him in fear and could practically feel him wincing. As soon as I realised that I was hurting him, I let go of him and apologized. All he did was laugh warmly and say," I was scared the first time too. You are lucky you have a hot boy to hug when you are scared, I definitely didn't." I could feel my cheeks go red. He increased the speed, which made me whimper. When he noticed this, he took my hand and laced his fingers through mine.
"Try to enjoy it and push all the bad possibilities aside. If you keep focusing on what might happen, you will miss what is in front of you," he advised. I tried to follow his advice and stopped thinking of what might happen, like maybe me falling off the drone and hurting myself... I cleared my mind and felt the breeze go through my hair. This was actually great. I liked his kind and caring side more.
"Look at the town below," I heard Krandal say and looked at him like he was out of his mind. "Trust me, it's beautiful," he added. After I gathered up all my courage, I looked down and it really was beautiful. It was getting dark, so some of the lights were on and so from high above, the small town looked spectacular.
Soon, I could see my neighbourhood. We started going down and landed at the front door of my home. I watched as Krandal got down while still holding his ribs then I got down myself. "Why don't you come in? I'll take care of you," I stated. "Won't your parents mind?" he asked, looking at the house as if my parents would come out at any second. It was getting late and I was sure my parent's would kill me but what the heck?! "Nah. Just come in," I assured him. I' m definitely going crazy.
I led the way into the house and immediately went to look for my parents and try explain everything. When I couldn't find them, I started looking for any note that they left. I looked in my room, the fridge, the T.V, the couch but I couldn't find a note. I headed to the door, where I left Krandal, to check if it was there.
When I got there, he suddenly put something in his pocket. I wondered what it was that he didn't want me to see, but right now, I had no time for curiosity.
The note wasn't at the door. "Have you seen any note around?" I asked Krandal but he shook his head. This was so not my parents. I turned on my phone and found twenty missed calls from mom. I tried to call her back but her phone was off. I gazed at Krandal and saw a worried expression crossing his face.
What was going on?!

A few weeks later:
Heeey, I've done some editing and I hope the book is better. Also... I've changed the name Kavinsky to Krandal so if you see any Kavinsky, just tell me and I will fix that right away. Thanks again for reading.
