1: Moving In

RAPUNZEL watched out the window as the taxi her cousins were in approached the house. A small moving truck followed behind. Well it wasn't really a house, it was more of a mansion. Rapunzel's parents owned a boat and lantern making company. She knew it was a strange combination, but that's what it was. It was also strange that the logo was a sun.

The truck and taxi stopped in front of the large mahogany and glass doors. The driveway looped around close to the house almost like there would be at a palace.

"Mom, Dad! Anna and Elsa are here!" She called for them happily.

"We're coming!" Mom replied.

Anna and Elsa stepped out of the car and stared vacantly at the house. Rapunzel scrambled to her feet, running to the door she opened it.

"Rapunzel!" Anna said as she ran to give her a hug. Elsa stayed closely behind. Though she didn't hug her cousin. "It's so good to see you, not really under these circumstances, but you know what I mean. I--" She rambled.

Rapunzel cut her off because otherwise she would start saying really weird and random things. "I'm sorry, Anna. That never should have happened to you." She peeked out from Anna's embrace to look at Elsa, "Either of you."

Elsa gave a thankful smile, but there was something hidden behind it. She was once so happy and cheerful...now she hesitantly joined the hug.

"Anna, Elsa," Dad said from behind them. The three pulled away to see Rapunzel's parents in the doorway.

"Uncle Thomas! Aunt Primrose!" Anna was the first to hug them. Then Elsa did as well. Her parents told the girls how sorry they were for the two of them and that they missed the kind couple as well. They helped them take their luggage and boxes to their bedrooms, which happened to be way at the other end of the home on the top floor.

"Do you want some help unpacking?" Rapunzel asked them when her parents left the room. The three of them were standing in Anna's bedroom. Elsa's was just across the hall.

"No thank you. I'll be in my room." Elsa answered politely. She walked out of the room leaving Rapunzel and Anna.

"Would you mind?" Anna asked, gesturing towards her three suitcases, and nine boxes.

"Not at all!" Rapunzel smiled.

"Thanks!" They started talking and unpacking her boxes that were filled with clothes, trinkets, and such. Anna even brought her bed, desk, desk chair, and bookshelf from her house.

ELSA left Anna's bedroom and entered hers. She had two suitcases and twelve boxes to unpack. She wanted to be alone so that no one would see her cry about her parents.

She cut open the box labeled 'Pictures' with a pocket knife and started to look through them. On the top were more recent pictures. Elsa at homecoming, Anna's eighth grade graduation, Their vacation to Jamaica last summer, and their vacation to Europe this summer. Tears fell from her eyes every time she saw a picture of her parents.

They were always so in love with each other.

Every time Elsa would talk with her dad he would make her feel good. He always told her to follow her dreams and do what would make her happy. And no matter what she decided to do with her life, as long as it made her happy, he would be proud of her. She smiled through my tears at the memory of when he first told her that.

Her mom was similar. She had the biggest heart, always cared more about others than herself. Much like Anna.

Elsa couldn't look at the pictures anymore. She pushed the box away and collapsed onto the bed. She started crying hysterically, not caring if anyone heard her. "It's all my fault!" She shouted, tears streaming down her cheeks then soaking into the pillow. "If I wouldn't have started ice skating in the first place," She got up and violently grabbed the pillow, "This never would have happened!" She screamed as she threw the pillow at the door to her closet. "I'm a monster," Elsa whispered to herself.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Elsa glanced at the small clock that was on the nightstand. It read 11:26 p.m. Apparently she was looking at those pictures for a few hours. She probably woke everyone up.

Elsa didn't answer the door. "Elsa... please, I know you're in there." Anna's voice calls silently.

"Go away, Anna!" Elsa said quietly. She fell on her bed again and buried her head in the icy blue pillows to cry.

Anna sighed, "I'm coming in," and she did.

Elsa didn't look up to face her, instead she kept sobbing into the pillow. "Elsa, this isn't your fault," Anna sat on next to her. She started to rub her back, trying to comfort her. She had always been the stronger one. "Why would you blame yourself for this? it was a freak accident caused by a drunk driver." She sniffled.

It was Elsa's turn to comfort her. She pulled her down so that Anna laid next to her, and hugged her. "Why would you think that?" Anna cried on her shoulder. Her voice was heart breaking. Elsa didn't respond because she didn't know what to say to her. When her crying slowed, she spoke again. "You're not a monster." Anna drifted off to sleep.

Her words played over and over again on Elsa's mind until she fell asleep.

JACK picked up his phone and texted Elsa again the second he woke up. Her parents died a few days ago and she had practically climbed into the graves with them. He was so worried about her. He knew how she got when she was depressed: She would barely eat or even move unless she absolutely had to.

He desperately waited for a response, any response would make him feel better. "Come on, Els, please! Answer..." He begged her as he stared at his phone.

The phone beeped and he cried out in excitement.

I'm fine, Jack. I'll see you at school. ~E

He sighed in relief, at least she was going to try. He texted her again.

I'll take you. I'll be there at 7:30. Ok?

It took another moment for her to respond.

Sure Jack. Thanks :) ~E

He smiled at his phone. He knew she was still sad and broken--it would probably take a very long time to put her back together--but she was making an effort to go back to her normal life, and that was what mattered at the moment.

Jack jumped out of bed and got dressed. "Let's go, Ems!" He yelled as he walked down the carpeted stairs into the living room. "We're going to be late!"

"I'm coming, I'm coming!" The fourteen year old brunette came running down the stairs. She grabbed two oranges from the dining room table. Jack glared at her, "really?"

"I guess you don't want one. I'll just give it to Elsa then."

They walked out the front door and hopped into Jack's dark blue 2007 cobra mustang. He started the car and drove to Rapunzel's house.

MERIDA stared down at the plastic stick in her hands. How could she let this happen? How could she be so stupid and careless? Should she tell her parents? Hiccup? What would they say? This was a disaster. She had no idea what to do.

She couldn't help the tears that fell from her eyes.

Merida walked out of her bathroom and collapsed on her bed. She sobbed into her pillow.

Someone knocked on her door. "Merida, dear, yer goin' ta be late fer school." Her mother called. "Are ya ok, lass?"

"Yes, mum, I'm fine!" She shouted angrily, attempting to assure her mother she wasn't upset.

"Alrite but hurry up, Hiccup called, he said he wanted ta take ya dis mornin'."

That was just the cherry on top of her already terrible morning. "Okay, mum." She changed into a white tank top, plaid flannel, jean shorts, and black converse. She sighed, looking into the mirror. At least she was fortunate enough that she won't gain weight yet.

Merida walked downstairs and grabbed a green apple from the kitchen. Hiccup honked the horn of his car from outside. "Bye mum!" She yelled.

Her mother ran to give her a hug. "Have a good first day of senior year! Love ya."

"Love ye, too." She pulled away from her mother's tight embrace, grabbed her black backpack, and ran out to Hiccup's car.

He kissed her on the cheek as she sat in the passenger seat. "Ready for our last first day of high school?" He smiled cheekily.

Through her pain, she smiled at him. He looked at her, confused. He knew something was wrong, but didn't dare mention it, in fear of angering her. The drive to the high school was silent and awkward but they finally arrived.

Merida was about to step out of the car but he locked the doors. She glared daggers at him but he only did the same to her. It took a minute, but she gave up.

Hiccup sighed. "What is it, Mer? Usually you'd be complaining about your mom, or acting all excited about football tryouts."

"I don't want ta talk about it." She looked down, avoiding his emerald green eyes.

"I didn't...hurt you...last weekend, did I?" Out of the corner of her eye she saw his face scrunch up in concern. "Merida, please," He begged, "I need to know if I hurt you." Tears started to well up in her eyes again. Fortunately, her hair concealed her face from his gaze. "Merida?" His voice cracked.

Of course he didn't hurt her; he was as soft and gentle as petting a newborn puppy. But she couldn't bring herself to say anything.

Merida manually unlocked the car and raced away from his car as fast as possible. Hiccup called after her but she refused to see her crying like this and kept walking.
