24-Jail
Listen to Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi.
"Me."
I turned around only to meet Tristan, he was smiling but at the same time glaring at me.
Karen came and took Adrian away saying she wanted him to meet someone, wrong timing girl.
I was left with Tristan who looked very furious.
He left his remaining wine on a nearby table and grabbed my arm, pulling me to the exit with him.
I didn't want to create a scene so I decided not to struggle but I stood my ground when we got to the parking lot.
I pulled away from his hold making him stop, he loosened his tie and faced me.
"Why are you so stubborn?"
"It's my hobby."
I shrugged coolly.
"Get in the car."
He said with an icy stare.
"But we just got here, it's your best friends engagement party we can't just leave, you didn't even inform him we're leaving."
He walked to the car and entered ignoring everything I said.
"Seriously?"
I grunted.
"I'm not leaving," I said crossing my arms.
"I will tell you what you need to know."
He said calmly.
"Okay," I said and entered the car.
The ride was quiet, I noticed how he was clenching and unclenching his hands around the wheel, he hadn't said a word since we left.
I took a glance at him, his face hardened then softened like he was fighting his emotions.
"I don't even know why you're upset, I didn't get the answer I wanted."
"I warned you to stop, you don't have to know who she is, Goddamnit! You don't have to know everything, Chloe!"
Oh, now we were back to Chloe? Okay.
"Why can't you tell me? I opened up to you about my past."
"I never asked you to!"
He snapped turning to look at me with cold eyes.
"For once, why can't you do as you're told? I only ask you to be patient with me, I will tell you what you need to know but not now. Stop going behind my back asking questions that will only hurt! " He yelled.
"I care about you and I wanna help with..."
"The only help I need from you is to convince my family that we're in love and you're carrying my baby."
He cut in.
"How were you expecting me to react Tristan? You told me Nadia was your wife then you asked me out and you avoid the question every time I bring it up, excuse me for trying to clear my confusion. I thought since we have something going on between us you'd open up a bit to me!"
"Something? Between us?"
He said like those words sounded strange to him, he took a glance at me, his ocean eyes were mocking me.
"Are you still that dumb and desperate kid who doesn't know the difference between lust and love? We have nothing between us, Chloe. I thought after your ugly experience with your exes, you'd be more sensible on that topic."
That had to be the first thing someone said to me that left me completely speechless and numb, all those words struck me like lightning.
I tried to find my breath, my emotions were complicated and not readily verifiable, I squeezed my knees and tried to get myself together, how could someone break me with just words.
It hurts, it really hurts.
"Chloe?"
His voice was soft but I knew the monster behind that softness.
"Stop the car."
I said not looking his way, I unfastened my seatbelt and waited for him to stop.
"Cassie..."
"Stop the car or I will break the window and jump out!"
That made him stop, I opened the door.
"You're an asshole!"
I spat and slammed the door not caring if I damaged the car.
"Cassie!"
I kept walking not looking back, I didn't know where I was going. I wanted to be anywhere but around Tristan.
My heels clicked on the ground as I kept walking straight, I didn't hear his voice again, I looked back and saw that he was gone.
Wow, and I was expecting him to follow me around apologizing till I agree to come home with him, I really suck at this.
The cold air made me aware of what I was wearing. I tried to think of anything else but what he said in the car, it still broke my heart that he drove off without even trying to apologize, not like I'd listen to him but I expected more.
I winced as my feet throbbed from the short walk in these heels, I looked around me, I only saw four people. I reached down and removed my heels, I exhaled in relief as my feet relaxed on the cold floor. I walked down the sidewalk with my heels in one hand, I knew this place, it wasn't far from my house.
I wondered if my parents would let me in if I knock on the door, I didn't want to go back to Tristan's place, I'd just feel furious the whole night. After walking for ten more minutes, I stopped at the bus stop and took a seat.
I could sleep here, I hated that my life was like this. I leaned back on the metal bench and grunted in frustration, I wanted to be three again, the age I had nothing to worry about, the age I was very happy.
Tears brimmed at the edge of my eyes, I closed my eyes and tried to keep my mind calm.
"Chloe?"
I knew that voice.
"Grey?"
I sat up on the seat as he kept staring at me with worry evident in his eyes, I looked pitiful right now.
"Hey."
I mumbled putting my arms around myself and avoiding his eyes.
"What are you doing here?"
He asked taking note of my bare feet.
I didn't say anything, I stared at my toes relieved they were attractive.
"Wanna talk?"
He asked and came to sit beside me, that familiar scent I was once in love with hit my nose.
My eyes stared at his black Nike, they looked good.
"Chlo?"
He called sounding more worried, I finally looked at him. Those brown eyes I loved staring into and those curls I enjoyed running my fingers into.
"I was taking a walk."
It wasn't a lie and it wasn't the truth either but the look on his face told me he didn't believe me.
He stood up making my heart drop, he was going to leave me too? No one wanted to be around me.
I was confused when he picked my shoes and took my hand.
"Come on."
He urged pulling me up gently, I followed not arguing.
We walked quietly down the sidewalk.
"If your feet are hurting I can give you mine though it'd be big for you."
He said and stared at my feet.
"It's fine, it feels good."
I said with a light laughter
I wanted to ask him where we were going but I kept quiet and followed.
"So what happened?" he asked taking a glance at me.
The guy I thought liked me just told me I'm stupid for mistaking lust with love. I wanted to say but settled for,
"I fought with the person I live with."
"You mean, Tristan Sanchester, your...lover?" he said with an inexplicable edge to his voice. I wanted to explain everything to him but I heard my name from behind.
"Cassie," we both heard from behind, I turned around and saw Tristan. His expression hardened as his eyes rested on Grey.
"Go away, Tristan," I sighed.
"Can we please talk about what happened in the car?"
"No, you said everything you wanted. I heard you loud and clear, no need for a repeat."
"I'm sorry for everything I said, I didn't mean any of it," he said stepping closer.
"Ignore him, Grey. Let's go," I said and turned to leave.
"Cassie, wait," Tristan tried to get closer to me but Grey got in the way.
"She doesn't wanna speak to you, leave her alone," Grey said. Tristan's eyes flickered from Grey to me, his expression softened. I saw fear in his eyes that made him look vulnerable.
"Please," he said holding my gaze. I looked away and rolled my eyes.
"She wanna be left alone why don't you respect that," Grey said. Tristan gave him a dark look and tried to get to me.
"Stay the hell away from her, man," Grey said and shoved him hard in the chest. A sudden fear overtook me, I had seen Tristan punch his mirror, I had seen his aggression and I knew if he lost control right now Grey won't stand a chance.
" Grey, relax. Let's go," I said taking his hand, Tristan's jaw hardened as he stared at where I held Grey. A police car pulled next to us beside the road.
"Everything okay here?" the cop with the western accent asked and stepped out of the car.
"Is this young man giving you trouble?" he asked looking between me and Tristan.
"No," Tristan replied adjusting his suit.
"Are you sure? I saw him attack you," the cop asked stepping closer to Grey.
"He didn't do anything, officer," I said in his defense. The cop looked between us with a look of doubt washing over his face.
"Did he threaten you?" he asked and I heard Grey scoff at the question.
"No, Officer," I replied with a smile. The officer's scrutinizing eyes studied us for awhile.
"Can you put your hands up where I can see them, Sir," he said to Grey, and I could see him reaching for his gun.
"Why? We told you we are ok," I said stepping closer.
"It's ok, Chlo, it won't be the first time. Stay back, I don't you to get hurt," Grey said putting his hands up behind his head.
"What the hell are you doing? He didn't do anything," I said and the officer ignored me as he handcuffed Grey like he was a criminal.
"Tristan, say something," I said stepping closer to him.
"Officer, we were only having a conversation," Tristan explained.
"I saw him attack you, I'm taking him in for questioning," the officer said pushing Grey to the car and forcing him to the car.
"I'm not placing charges," Tristan said.
"I'm just doing my job, Sir, I will advise you both to cooperate and not interfere."
"Why aren't you taking us for questioning or arresting us too? Is it because of his skin color?" I asked, there was so much I wanted to say.
"You can stop by the station if you wanna drop a statement," he said and entered his car. I watched as he drove away with Grey in the backseat.
"You have got to be kidding me, what the hell was that for?" I sighed.
"Why didn't you do anything?" I asked facing Tristan.
"I tried, look, I will stop by the station and speak to a friend there so they..."
"Give me your car keys," I demanded. He gave me a confused look as he reached into his pocket and brought out the key. I snatched it from his hand and shot him a glare.
"Don't come after me," I said and walked to where he parked his car. I got in and drove off, leaving him alone on the sidewalk.
I threw my heels behind the seat and pulled the seat closer so I could see the road. I drove over to the police station, I argued with myself before putting on the heels. I entered the building and spoke to the cop at the front desk. I explained what happened and I was told to come back tomorrow.
I left the building feeling enraged. Grey didn't deserve to spend the night in jail, he did nothing wrong. I drove back to the house and I wasn't surprised to see Tristan in the living room. He stood up from the sofa when I walked in.
"How did..."
"I have a request," I cut in stepping closer to him.
"Sure, anything."
"If you want me to help you to keep deceiving your family, that's fine by me but from now on, you stay the hell away from me," his face fell at my request but I wasn't done yet.
"Go back to ignoring like you were doing when I first got here, pretend I'm invisible, I don't care. You have made your point clear, I was an idiot for thinking we had something going on and for trying to help. I will keep my distance, you won't even notice my shadow from now on. All I ask of you is to keep to your end of this deal or I will leave. I have an Uncle willing to take me in, " I said.
Rest in peace Uncle Phil.
"I will play the fake pregnant lover but that's all, don't expect anything else. Stay away from me, I'm sure you can figure how to make that work Mr. Sanchester," I said and walked away.
I slammed the door to my room so hard I cloud feel the walls shake. I kicked my heels off and climbed the bed, I hugged my pillow as the tears pricked at my eyes. I closed my eyes and allowed the tears to fall.

I left the house early the next day to the police station, Morris begged me to stay for breakfast but I refused.
I parked the car and came out. My eyes were still puffy from crying nonstop last night and my head was aching from screaming into the pillow.
I paused when I saw Grey walking out with his older brother, Calum.
He was a powerful businessman, one of the richest in America.
I stiffened when he saw me, I only met him once and he took me shopping that day.
He looked away and Grey smiled at me, he even waved.
I watched them till they entered the car and drove off. I was relieved he was out but I still owed him an apology. I entered my car to have some time alone, I took a deep breath and leaned back on my seat.
My phone rang, it was Morris. I picked it and cleared my throat to sound okay.
"Hello, Morris."
"Hi, Miss Simpson."
"Is everything okay?"
"Mr. Sanchester is at the hospital, his mom passed out."
"Okay, send me the address."
"I will do that right away."
"Thanks."
I buried my face in my hands and groaned.
I hoped Mrs. Sanchester was okay.
