Ch 9: Liar

'If you come to save me, then I'll shoot and kill you during the rescue.' Karma remains facing upwards with his gun pointing in the air, 'If you let me die without helping, then your existence as a teacher will be destroyed!' A sneer then escapes his lips at the thought.

So that was how falling to his death feels like. He could see an incredible kaleidoscope of images in his mind.

"But papa and mama just got here. Are you leaving me again?" The redhead's eyes were all watery. To think that he still has memories of his primary school.

"Don't say it like that. We will always return to your side, sweetie." His mother wipes his tears with him on her lap, "Mama and papa have to work really hard to give you a good life. But for that, we have to part for a short while."

'Liar. You never chose me. I was never considered your choice in the first place.'

"You understand, don't you, son? Your mother and I can't miss this opportunity." Karma could only grasp the phone tightly, disheartened by the series of disappointments. "How about spending your birthday with your friends again this year? I'll have the money sent into your account."

'Liar. You abandoned me. You only ever come back whenever it's convenient for you. May it be several months, or even years.'

"What's wrong with helping a senpai who was being bullied?"

"No, Akabane. No matter how I look at it, you are in the wrong." He was taken back. Ah, to be betrayed once again. It's like a cycle that never ends. "You sided with Class E and injured someone who has a future. The only thing right about you were your grades. That's why I always stood up for you, but it's a different story if you're going to damage my reputation."

'Liar. Then again, why did I expect him to be any different? He's dying. In my mind's eye, sensei was dying. They are all dying. For them to be dead even though they were still alive.. at that moment, I understood.'

His faith in them was dead.

'Korosensei, you will die by my hand! Now, which 'death' will you choose?'

But that was his miscalculation. The teacher in question appears right behind him, catching him in a web formed by his tentacles.

"Karma-kun, the deliberation you put into this assassination was magnificent. If I had rescued you at the speed of sound, your body wouldn't have been able to withstand it. On the other hand, if I took my time saving you, I would be shot in the interim. So sensei tried using a bit of stickiness." As seen that Karma fails to get out of them in frustration. "Like this, you can't shoot me. Nurufufufu."

Perhaps he felt his sheer willpower that swayed his heart quite a bit. Of course, it wasn't all enough to relieve all his uneasy feelings.

"For me, the option to leave you doesn't exist. Believe in me and jump whenever you like."

"Ha.." And that's when he accepted his defeat. It was no good, he wasn't dead and he couldn't kill him. Not even his existence as a teacher.

And they eventually return to the surface.

"Karma-kun, you acted so recklessly without batting an eye." The blunette was still flabbergasted about his previous attempt, staring down the cliff that his friend fell down on.

He stares into space, "Not really.. Having thought it over, I figured that just now would be the best way I could kill him, but I guess I'll quietly rework my plan for a while."

"What's this? Have you already run out of ideas?" Korosensei provokes while holding up all the accessories he used to play with him in his tentacles, "I still have lots of maintenance implements for retaliatory purposes though? You are also an unexpectedly easy opponent."

Karma pops a vein and could feel his killing intent boiling, but somehow felt different than earlier. He then forms a smile of determination, swiping his thumb across his neck. "I'm going to kill you. Tomorrow, that is."

Healthy and refreshing killing intent. It seems improvements are no longer needed. A red circle appears on their teacher's face.

"Let's head home, Nagisa-kun. We'll get something to eat on the way."

That's when Korosensei notices a familiar wallet the redhead is tossing in the air continuously, "W-Wait! Isn't that my change purse?!"

"Like I said, you leave things defenseless in the faculty room~"

"Return that!"

"Sure~"

His eyes widened to find it all empty, "But you're taking out its contents?!"

And since it was all loose change, Karma claims that he ended up collecting it as contribution. He laughs as he hears the octopus going on with his complaints as they go down the mountain.

"Are you alright though?" Nagisa couldn't help but ask. While he didn't sustain any injuries from the fall, he could see how much of a mess his state of mind was just by his expressions alone.

"Quite an experience it was, I must say." It was thrilling, but also a little sad. "My entire life flashed before my eyes in mere seconds." There were so little good memories he remembered with people, but more when he was all alone.

"And now that you've tried it out, better not do it ever again." He now sounds like that mom friend.

Karma sweat drops, "You make me sound like some suicidal maniac when I simply just let my intrusive thoughts win."

"That's exactly your problem!"

As if Korosensei wasn't enough, he gets nagged until they reach the main gate. But even while humming with fingers in his ears, both of them stop to hear a call upon leaving school premises.

"Akabane-kun..?"

Karma didn't even get a glimpse of her face. But why is it that he could tell who it was without ever hearing her voice before?

"Looks like you could talk now." He finally turns around, seeing Ginka leaning against the school gates wall as if waiting for someone. Turns out to be him.

"Indeed." It was already Monday of the second week of school. Long enough for her speech to be restored to normal, "May I speak to you for a moment?"

"Is there even anything else to talk about?" That was a genuine question. It's not like he held a strong grudge against her words. He just found it ridiculous and gave her a piece of advice.

"I would like to apologize for my rudeness." She bows her head to show utmost sincerity, which Karma found somehow amusing as the Asano pride normally wouldn't do such thing. "I was caught up in my own world that I have lost grasp with reality."

Ginka felt ashamed. Preoccupied with her selfish desires, she was blinded with everything else.

"I have done my research on our school's horrid system." Information from both the web and students. Well, she was advised by Mika not to go around talking about it so she went on and told everything herself. "I have no rights to to tell my father how to run his own institution, but I also believe in a way that his choice of implementing E Class is not bad in itself."

It was a a really Asano thing to say, they thought.

"Those with low marks or violations are sent there, correct? To work in a drastic environment with little to no privileges as those in the main building, would their fear of falling or staying in that class not serve as a drive to better themselves to make their way back to the upper classes?"

Karma did think that does make sense in a way. There was certainly some logic into it but, "Heh~? But you're missing quite the crucial thing in that argument."

"Yes, I understand that it may appear more difficult than it seems. Even I acknowledge that while I may be a B class student, I am still lacking in my intellectual abilities." She admits that staying there might be deem difficult for her. While most of their teachers were kind, it didn't help that some were terrible at their job. Lectures were too fast-paced and wordy. They are unable to teach in a way that could benefit all students. "And that somehow becomes subject of oppression in this school, with E Class worst off the list." Being segregated away to a poorly conditioned campus with rejects and failures, as they say.

"Asano-san.. what is it are you trying to say?" The bluenette couldn't help but question. Was all that just a means of justifying herself to make her feel better? He cannot see the point onto why she's sharing her discovery that should have been known from the start.

"Perhaps I am only defending myself, but there are two more things I'd like to convey." Ginka hopes to speak on behalf of other students, like majority of Class B who did not share the same ill behavior towards them, as they were the reason why she was unaware of such blatant discrimination against end class until now. "Not everyone in the main building is your enemy. There are people who do not simply follow blindly with what is established. Though I also understand that these words seem empty with how our school works."

Something then comes into mind.

"But maybe there is something I can do."

As the daughter of the Board Chairman. Maybe there's something that can really change.

Or maybe that was just her wishful thinking.
