Ch 8: The want to deny

Third person point of view

"You're talking to a transfer student who's only been here for five days. How do you expect her to know anything?" Morikawa Mika sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose. She wasn't usually one to pick fights, but she wasn't about to let some nobody talk down to her friend. "Unlike those dorks in the campus ranked below us, we don't exactly enjoy ridiculing people for sport." Her sharp gaze flicked over the group, unimpressed. "Frankly, your existence isn't even worth discussing."

Ginka's posture stiffened.

Despite her serene expression, she could feel the tension rising. She never saw Mika lose her cool like this before.

This was dangerous.

["Please calm down, Morikawa-san..."] But Mika didn't budge.

Kunugigaoka's Class B prided itself on being one of the more "reasonable" classes. They didn't bully the lower classes for fun. They promoted healthy competition—mainly targeting Class A, who constantly overshadowed them.

"Yeah, right." Karma's voice was dripping with amusement, his smirk sharp as a blade. "And this so-called transfer student also happens to be the daughter of that monster board chairman of the school."

Ginka's breath hitched.

"Let's be real," Karma continued, tone light, but eyes calculating. "You should know more than the students here do. This is your family's business, isn't it?"

That wasn't a question. That was a statement. Ignorance or a Lie?

Karma found it hard to believe that Asano Ginka knew nothing about how this school really worked. She was literally a candidate for succession.

Yet she was acting like she had no idea what was going on. It was ridiculous.

But Ginka was never considered as such and truly knew nothing. Perhaps there is fault in that. She got herself in a school without fully grasping how it works and just says whatever she pleases, as per the redhead thinks. While she is aware that there are five classes in total, she had no knowledge that one of them is secluded in the mountain with how big their school actually is.

But then— She just stood there. No denial. No argument. No fake act to deflect the conversation.

Just silence.

And somehow—that made it worse.

"Anyway," Karma exhaled, stepping away. "Just don't classify us the same as the rest of your school. We don't get treated the same, after all." His tone was lazy. But his words weren't. "We don't suck up to pretty words." He reached out, tapping her lightly on the shoulder before waving goodbye. "Better leave us alone, Asano-san. Keep hanging around us, and you might lose all your allies~"

The words lingered long after he was gone.

Of course, Ginka couldn't simply ask what he meant by that since her obliviousness might come off rude. She just ends up watching the bluenette calling his name as he catches up to him, tapping their cards to enter the Kunugigaoka station.

Ginka's fingers tightened around her notebook. ["Morikawa-san..."] She turned to her friend, who was visibly avoiding eye contact. ["What is it that I do not know?"]

Unlike her brother, Ginka had never stepped into the business world. She had never been involved in her father's control over this school. Questions about her family don't get questioned as she had always presented herself under the stage name of "Seiun" until now. Therefore, the way that Gakuho truly controlled the school never reached her ears. It also didn't help that she was away from them almost half her life.

But now— Now, it was becoming painfully clear.

"You know what they say," Mika muttered, shrugging. "Ignorance is bliss. Maybe it's best you just don't ask."

Ginka's expression didn't falter, but Mika could tell—

She wasn't going to let it go.

["But my words have hurt them in some way and while I do want to apologize for it, that would be meaningless if I had no idea about the origin of my mistake."]

"Look, you did nothing wrong. If anything, Akabane-kun was out of line speaking as if he knew everything about you."

["Putting it that way.. Am I also not the same?"] Ginka smiles weakly, attempting to convince her friend once more. ["It's no use keeping me in the dark. I'm pretty sure I could get this information by asking around. Why not just come clean with it?"]

Taking a deep sigh, she continues walking with her following from the side. "Alright then, listen carefully."

On the other end, Nagisa was more bothered that their defense came off rude towards a transfer student who hasn't been to an actual school for years and still adjusting to the environment.

"Weren't you a little too aggressive back there, Karma?"

The redhead just snorted. "Am I wrong, though?"

Nagisa frowned, "She's just a transfer student. She barely knows anything about this school."

Karma's smirk faltered slightly. "That's exactly the problem, Nagisa-kun." His gaze turned sharp, calculating. "She's dangerous."

Nagisa blinked, "Dangerous? Asano-san?"

He sounded genuinely confused, "She's been nothing but polite."

"That's exactly what's wrong." Karma exhaled through his nose, tilting his head.  "Her overall vibe—doesn't it catch you off guard?"

Nagisa paused.

He thought back to their conversation. To her posture. To her expression. To the way she never looked rattled. It wasn't the same calm that came from confidence.

It was something else.

"Well," he admitted, rubbing his neck, "she does have an air of a celebrity. Pretty eyes, too."

That earned him a deadpan stare.

"Nagisa-kun, that's not what I meant."

"Then what do you mean?"

Karma exhaled through his nose, closing his eyes for a moment. "I guess I just want to deny her."

"Deny her?"

"Yeah."

A long pause.

Then—

"Because I don't think she's real."

Liars are certainly intriguing.  Not because he couldn't lie himself. But because he knows exactly how people fake emotions or intentions. It was enjoyable pushing the limits of one's facade under pressure.

Asano Ginka was born to be deceitful.

And maybe—just maybe—she didn't even realize it herself.

And said person still couldn't figure what Karma was talking about since the he wouldn't go into detail. It wouldn't be right to pry either. He was unsure if they were close enough to go deeper into that in the first place, "Can you at least try not to provoke her?"

Well, Karma can't really promise anything since he's more on doing what feels right at the moment. So he just switches topics to ask the main issue at hand: their teacher's weakness, which Nagisa willingly gave the information of.

"I see. I've thought of something nasty." He almost choked up a laugh.

Which his friend couldn't help but be concerned. "Karma-kun, what are you planning to do now?"

"You know, I'm really happy. I was wondering what I would do if he were just a monster but," He gave off a disturbing smile that sent goosebumps down one's spine. "I'll be able to kill a proper teacher, since the previous one died out of his own accord."

He felt the grudge of being unable to do it himself, projecting such ill feelings on his kind instead.

"Ah, soorry! I mistook it for you and end up killing it. I'll throw it away, so just bring it over here." Karma spoke with full arrogance, pointing at the octopus he stabbed on the desk. As he is unable to kill him as of the moment, he attempts to kill his spirit bit by bit.

Only for Korosensei to finally counter his antics, backing him into a corner. "Sensei never lets an assassin be bored." His eyes lit up in determination, cooking up takoyaki with a missile and tentacle drills along with several ingredients he fetched in mach speed. The redhead chokes as the finish product shoved into his mouth, "That complexion comes from not having eaten breakfast, doesn't it? I have made much more. If you eat this, you'll come closer to be a healthy child."

Karma raises his sleeve to cover his mouth. He is an octopus who has little to no limitations. Unpredictable more than anything.

"You should come at me each day with a serious intent to kill. And each time, I will improve you." He continues, throwing back the same level of mockery his student did. "Before school lets out, I will polish your body and spirit until they shine."

2nd period. 3rd period. 4th period. 5th period. The entire day has passed and none of Karma's series of attacks had any success whatsoever. He just made a fool out of himself playing into his teacher's hands.

It was his loss. All his ideas had dried up.

But still pondering about it more until the day ended, biting his nails in frustration. "Karma-kun, don't be impatient and we'll kill him together. If you target Korosensei by yourself, no matter what tricks you use, you alone can't kill him. He's different from other teachers, after all."

Teacher. Teacher. Teacher. The more it echoed in his head, his bloodlust intensified that he no longer submits to reason. He leers forward, "No way.. I want to kill him. Surviving by some fluke will piss me off the most."

And the said target appears before them, "Now, Karma-kun. Today, sensei certainly provided you with lots of improvements." The stripes on his face indicated provocation, "You can still kill me, you know? I will polish you until you shine even brighter."

Suddenly, he had another plan in mind. The final one, probably. It was a plan that would work for him whether or not he succeeds.. no matter how insane it may seem.

"I'd just like to confirm but you're a teacher right, Korosensei?"

He was confused on why he was asking the obvious, "Yes."

"So would a teacher put his life on the line to protect his students?" He stands up from swinging his legs from being seated on the tree hanging off the cliff.

"Of course. A teacher's a teacher, after all."

"I see, that's good." Karma gives off a smile like he's finally lost it, "In that case.." He points a gun at him and takes a step off the branch, allowing himself to fall to his death.

"This time, I'll definitely kill you."
