Prologue

Screams raged throughout the darkness of the night. The moon shone through almost mockingly as it watched in utter silence as countless creatures were murdered. Cries and whines could be heard all through the city that lied in the soft shadow the looming castle created thanks to the seemingly glowering moon.
Families upon families hid from the black smoke and flame-like shadow creature that stalked the city in search of them. Its snarls seemed much more nasally than it should have been, sending off an eerie feeling. Some fled, though not many. They were all too frightened, too shocked, to be able to leave so easily. They couldn't believe that this deadly creature that threatened all the lives of the city, was their beloved prince Rex.
He was always so generous to all. Always so cheerful and caring towards everybody he knew and met. He was willing to help any and everybody he knew, even strangers. He was willing to risk his own life if it meant somebody else could be better off. He would risk his own health if it meant helping somebody else who was in need. He was always so nice to everybody.
And now he's a monster who wants to kill everybody who resided in this city.
He had broke through the gates of the castle, slowly turning into this evil creature before them and in front of the entire city. This evil creature which wished to slaughter all with its own teeth and claws. This monster who wants to kill everybody who resided in this city.

All throughout the lands, the word of a traitorous prince spread. A prince who was loved by all and then killed all. A prince who could never be trusted. A prince who slaughtered his entire kingdom in a single night.
He wasn't gone after, however. Most thought that it was all a myth, a simple legend created by some who wished to install fear into other kingdoms. The stories of him were told relentlessly though.
All were told that he was dangerous. That he couldn't be trusted and that you should never go after him. And if he found you? Run. It was as simple as that. Such a small reaction to such a big event.
Those who fled had only told the story. They didn't shoot down the rumors of the story being fake. They didn't want to think about it anymore.
Nobody knew what happened to the prince, and nobody would. They didn't speak or think of it anymore, and those who had hidden were far too scared to manage to think of anything. As they hid and died under the claws of that creature, the only thought that they could muster was: No.
