Chapter Twelve
A/n wow this chapter is late... sorry! I had big writers block... I had to change some stuff in the last chapter because by the time I was halfway through this chapter I remembered about a contradiction so I had to change it. Hope you enjoy!
Kageyama had come back from that general meeting with his boss, now he was on his way home. A smile creeped on his lips, excited for the next day, to spend time with his sunshine. Once he took note of his seemingly creepy smile, the corners of his lips dropped. He wondered why he would be excited to spend his days with a killer, but that particular detail seemed faint. It wasn't until he heard a gunshot that he was reminded.
He ran ahead towards the sound of the gunshot and hoped that it wasn't who he thought it was. He reached an alleyway and quickly entered, only to see a bright orange. He quickly backed up and hid behind a wall, covering his mouth to steady his breathing. Though he was aware of the fact that his friend was a killer, a small part of him still wished it wasn't true.
"No use hiding Kageyama." He held his breath, the sudden chill in his voice making him nervous. "I know you're there."
Don't lie to me.
Those words echoed in his head as he tried to think of something to say. He had nothing. Absolutely nothing. He turned on his heel, facing the opening before his took a step and revealed himself to the other. He took small breaths, attempting to hide his own fear. He always wondered why he was afraid of him. He dealt with other killers and such, powerful people, manipulators, and yet, this small high schooler terrified him.
He looked down at the victim, almost to pity him for doing something to piss the other off. He looked down at the victim and felt the underlying dread expand.
"Hey Hinata?" He almost breathed out. "Who did you kill?" He looked back at the supposed sunshine.
He could see that he was conflicted. He could tell he knew he was supposed to feel terrible, but he could see him hold back a laugh, a grin, and struggle with trying to look normal.
Normal. What the hell was normal at this point?
"Why do you ask?" A chill ran down his spine as he thought of his next words. If he found out about his profession, would he care?
"Hinata, who did you kill?" The suspense was killing the poor assassin. His mind went elsewhere as he realized that he was to fail again. Fail once more and he would have to pay.
"Why do you need to know?" His growl caught the other's attention. "Kageyama tell me."
It was too loud. His heartbeat was booming, his chest feeling heavy. He couldn't breathe and he wanted to kill him. He wanted to beat him to a pulp and have him beg for forgiveness. As he took a step forward, he noticed the gun in hand.
He held back the need to scream.
"Why did you kill him...?" Hinata dropped his head.
"He was a thief. A petty," he kicked the lifeless body once, "little," twice,"thief," and one last time. He raised his head to look at his setter. "Why do you need to know?"
...
"Kageyama?"
...
"Tell me."
...
"TELL ME!" Hinata raised his hand to threaten the other, only for him to be cut off by a hug.
"I was just, worried... Hinata please, I love you." He leaned back to make eye contact with him. "Do you think that I would ever lie to you? My one and only sunshine?" While he was stunned, Kageyama carefully grabbed the gun and put it away.
Don't lie to me.
Those words made it hurt.
Hinata responded with a smile.
"I love you as well."

The next day was a school day, a Monday, and Kageyama knew he had to break the news to his boss. Fortunately, they didn't have English that day, but they did have practice and he didn't know how he well he was going to play. He felt exhausted, but really it was just an excuse. He didn't want to interact with a particular someone.
"Kageyama!" The sound of footsteps followed. He knew exactly who it was, yet he walked on and on until the footsteps subsided.
~~
"You're avoiding me!" Hinata pouted. He could feel himself flinch at the sudden change in his voice. The memories from the day before made him sick, the air feeling thicker than it was before.
"No I'm not, idiot." Tsukishima could be heard in the back snickering as always. Practice was rather short, possibly because of the death of a teacher, and so they all decided to hang out after school.
Kageyama had different plans.
He decided to help the teen get away with his murders. Yes, that seemed reasonable. He had to gain his trust, all of his trust, and-
"Does the King really have such a shameful scar that he needs to hide it all the time?" Yamaguchi nudged the blond.
"Tsukki, that's a bit insensitive."
"Of course it is," Kageyama responded. "You should know, since you're always sitting on that high horse of yours. Thought your brother would have taught you some manners," he muttered.
"What do you know about my brother," Tsukishima snapped. Kageyama paused. He didn't even notice that slipping. He couldn't even stop it.
'What if he finds out?'
"Nothing, just overheard a rumor. Sorry." He went back to changing his shirt and grabbed his bag to leave. Hinata grabbed his arm.
"Hey, I thought we were all going to hang out together." That pout made his stomach turn. He could feel something crack as he forced a smile.
"I need to go home." His smile dropped almost immediately after he spoke and Hinata caught it. Kageyama went on ahead and Hinata excused himself, catching up to him.
"What did I do wrong?" He grabbed his arm. The other brushed it off and sped up.
"Nothing."
"Don't lie, you're clearly upset with me." He kept going forward and Hinata was still by his side.
"I'm not upset with you," he turned his head and faced away from him.
"Stop lying!" He stood in front of him. "Why are you upset with me? Tell me the truth." An image of his other half popped up, his words echoing.
Don't lie to me.
Kageyama shook his head, feeling uneasy.
"Go home, I'll see you tomorrow." Hinata watched as his friend walked ahead. A minute passed, and another. In a way, he could feel time brush by next to him as he could hear his other self whisper in his ear and grab a hold of him.
'Do you believe him?'
Hinata took a step, then two, then three. It took a second but he ran. He ran to catch up with Kageyama, that lonely setter. He ran until he saw him at his front door and walk in.
"Kageyama!" The door closed shut in front of him. He hit the door a few times, begging him to let him in. He tried the door handle. It was unlocked.
He rushed in.
"Kageyama wait!" He saw him walk up the stairs and into a room.
"Just go home." He saw him close the door, but he managed to make it in.
"Is it because I killed him?" He froze as he tried to speak, but it was no use. His words were stuck in his throat. "Why does it matter to you? He was a terrible teacher, you never liked English, and he was a thief! Why do you care so much-"
"BECAUSE YOU KILLED A FUCKING TEACHER!" Kageyama breathed out slowly as he gasped to take in air. He could see Hinata freeze up and his head drop lifelessly. He could feel him shift into his other self as that menacing aura took over. He backed up, realizing he had messed up. He turned around and put his book bag down, his back now to the killer.
"Is that really the reason?" Those words were spoken so slowly, each syllable articulated in a way that made each word feel heavy.
Kageyama could feel his entire body feel stiff. He felt paralyzed. He looked up, almost trying to beg God for something. He pursed his lips before he turned back around.
"No." Maybe it was time to tell the truth.
"Then why are you avoiding me?" Then again...
Maybe not.
Kageyama walked up to him and put his hands on the other's cheeks, pulling him in. The menacing aura subsided, feeling the genuine confusion the other emitted. Hinata responded back, his arms wrapped around the other's neck.
'So this is what it's like to kiss someone,' Hinata thought.
Kageyama backed up to look him in his eyes. He felt little emotion as he asked a simple question.
"Want to stay the night?"
