★ Chapter 15: Surprises ★

It was beautiful, golden morning.

Papyrus was downstairs, preparing his best dish yet, home made pancakes.

The tall skeleton let out a proud laugh as he flipped a burned pancake up in the air 'professionally'.

After cooking six 'pancakes', Papyrus turned the stove off and trotted over to the living room, where he then took a seat elegantly and began eating his creations.

Just as the skeleton was about to take another forkful, due to the new absence of cooking noise, a repeated, very annoying beep was heard piercing through the quietness of the house once again.

Papyrus grumbled and turned on the TV.

He raised the volume in an attempt to ignore the ring, however, the sound still cut through the voices of the television.

"NYEH! SANS COULD YOU PLEASE TURN YOUR ALARM OFF!?" Papyrus frustratedly shouted, pausing the television in order to be able to hear more clearly his brother's response.

There was no response, only quiet.

Just that stupidly annoying faint, piercing noise.

Papyrus stood up, threw the remote control on the couch, and placed his plate on the small table at the center of the living room.

He stomped up the stairs fiercely and knocked on Sans' door loudly.

"SANS!!! WOULD YOU PLEASE TURN THAT OFF?!" Papyrus repeated in exasperation.

There still wasn't an answer.

At this point, the last straw was nonexistent.

Papyrus slammed the door open.

"SANS WAKE UP! WHY WON'T YOU ANSWER AND DON'T YOU HAVE TO GO TO WORK TODAY!?" He shouted as he approached to Sans' bed and pulled the blankets away from his brother.

Papyrus squeaked with surprise at the sight.

Grillby and Sans laid there on the bed, both cuddled together and without a shirt.

Papyrus' face turned a deep shade of orange and covered his eye sockets, turning away from the scene.

"Well, I wasn't expecting this...." He murmured under his breath.

Grillby was the first one to open his eyes.

Oh fuck, he thought at the sight of Papyrus there.

Grillby quietly shook Sans awake, desperate for him to wake up at that moment.

Wake up, he internally pleaded.

"mnngh" Sans moaned, waking up from his deep slumber.

The short skeleton looked at Grillby with a 'what's wrong?' look.

Grillby pointed at Papyrus, who was still with his eye sockets closed, turned away from the two.

His smile dropped dead at the instant he realized his brother was there.

"paps! what are you doing h-here!?" He inquired embarrassedly, covering both himself and Grillby with a blanket.

"I'M SORRY BROTHER! I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE SHIRTLESS! NEITHER THAT GRILLBY WAS HERE WITH YOU, AND ALSO SHIRTLESS. PLEASE FORGIVE ME! ALL I CAME FOR IS TO TELL YOU TO TURN OFF THAT ALARM THAT HAS BEEN RINGING FOR AT LEAST 40 MINUTES!" Papyrus quickly clarified.

There was an awkward silence.

"you could've just knocked"

"I DID! BUT YOU DIDN'T WAKE UP!... YOU LAZYBONES... SO I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, HAD TO COME IN HERE MYSELF TO WAKE YOU UP FOR WORK!" Papyrus exclaimed.

Grillby grabbed his phone, the source of the alarm, and turned it off before having another moment of realization.

Time.

Late.

Work.

Grillby sat there staring down at his phone, specially at the center of the lock screen, where in big bold numbers it read: 6:19 am.

"OH FINALLY YOU TURN THAT O-"

"-We're going to be late." Grillby calmly interrupted Papyrus, showing the time to Sans.

Sans let out a deep exhale and groaned.

"this can't be happening..."

Papyrus stood there and began to awkwardly walk out the door, knowing his cue to leave.

"WELL, GOOD LUCK BROTHER. TRY NOT TO BE SUPER LATE. GOOD LUCK TO YOU TOO, GRILLBY!" He said before entirely stepping out of the room.

Grillby jumped up to his feet and put on the T-shirt he had borrowed while Sans took out his clothes out of the closet and placed them on his bed.

Sans then ran to his restroom and brushed his teeth before putting one of his usual white t-shirt.

"Let's go to your house and get you some clothes" Sans said, grabbing his clothes from his bed and waiting for Grillby at the door.

Grillby nodded, and rushed to Sans' side.

The two soon got downstairs and were just about to leave when Papyrus stopped them, just to hand both a brown paper bag with something warm inside.

A sweet smell filled the air.

"CAN'T START A DAY WITHOUT BREAKFAST! I MADE YOU TWO SOME PANCAKES; ONE OF MY BEST DISHES YET!"

"thanks uh... you're the greatest."

"NYEHEHE! OF COURSE I AM! BYE SANS! BYE GRILLBY!"

As soon as Papyrus got out of the way and closed the door, Sans and Grillby quickly got in the car and drove as fast as they could to the bar.

Once they arrived to the bar, Grillby got out of the car and opened the door for Sans.

"aw thanks, grillbz." Sans thanked, a light blush across his face.

Such a gentleman, he thought.

Grillby guided Sans precisely to the back of the establishment where the stairs leading up to his apartment were.

Sans stood there blank faced, staring up at the stairway.

He still was pretty shocked about how Grillby lived right above his bar and kept it a secret for this long.

"You coming?" Grillby asked, already at the top unlocking his door.

Sans nodded and quickly catched up.

Once again, Grillby opened the door for Sans and led him in.

"you sure aren't holding back with opening doors for me, huh" Sans laughed.

Grillby smiled sheepishly and shook his head sideways, making Sans laugh.

Once inside, Grillby turned his light switch on, lighting his living room with a bright, luminous light.

The room was very organized, and its fragrance was a unique one; kind of like an apple scented clean up product mixed with some of Grillby's cooking.

Sans fell back onto Grillby's black leather couch and made himself at home once more.

"If you need something just tell me. I'll go get myself ready for work" Grillby said, walking down the small hall into his room and shutting his door shut behind him.

Sans sat there in silence for a minute, waiting for anything else to happen besides from just pure nothingness.

This is boring.

Sans stood up and stretched, walking around in Grillby's living room to take a better glance at the details that made up Grillby's house.

Something caught his attention quickly.

Sans laughed to himself as he looked up at some of Grillby's old pictures hanging on the wall.

One in particular was of him when he was a small baby and was apparently learning how to eat by himself.

aw, that's adorable, Sans thought as he took a picture with his phone.

"I'm back" Grillby sighed, re-entering the room, in which Sans stood, still wearing his white T-shirt and black shorts.

"Why haven't you changed your clothes?" Grillby questioned as he finally finished fixing his bowtie.

"i can change in less than five minutes, so i'm good." Sans slipped his phone back into his pockets slowly.

Grillby rolled his non-existent eyes, taking off his glasses and beginning to wipe them with his apron.

"Sure..." He sarcastically responded with a snicker.

"you doubt me!?" Sans dramatically gasped in a novel like way, grabbing his clothes from the couch and placing his free hand to his face.

"Yes." Grillby flatly answered, putting on his glasses.

"i am gonna go change now" Sans chuckled, entering the restroom and blowing a raspberry at Grillby before closing the door.

Grillby checked his watch and let out a happy sigh.

Watch him get out of there in 15 minutes...

After some time, Sans stepped out of the restroom and just grinned.

"told ya I'm fast getting ready"

"Sans, it took you 16 minutes exactly to get ready." Grillby deadpanned.

"it wasn't my idea to learn how to tie a bow tie" Sans just shrugged, a carefree smile on his face.

"Anyway, bar opens in five minutes. We should head down." Grillby sighed.

"ok"

The two were soon on their way downstairs to the bar; and Grillby, of course, was ahead of Sans.

As Sans headed down, a wave of nausea suddenly hit him, along with a painful, shallow headache.

His vision began blurring up a little, making him blink a few times, trying to regain focus.

Grillby turned around.

"Are you okay?" He asked with worry in his voice and expression.

"yeah, i'm fine." Sans said.

Whatever chemical Christopher had had used in Sans to block his magic, side effects were now beginning to creep in.

And he wasn't liking any of it.
