★ Chapter 13: A Loving Home ★
Once home, Sans took a seat on the couch and let out a long exhale.
He was still quite fatigued and could feel his eyes already giving up on him.
"do you want anything to drink?" Sans offered, his voice soft and caring.
Even in his state of mind, and very tired conditions, he still wanted to be attentive with his guest.
"No thank you, Sans. I'm fine. You need to rest. You look tired." Grillby spoke with concern, leaning closer to Sans and putting a hand on his shoulder.
There was a mere moment of silence before Grillby reluctantly began speaking his concerns.
"Today was a pretty eventful day and I just wanted to ask how things happened and if you're okay-"
"-don't worry about me. i'm fine now, really." The skeleton interrupted and hugged himself, avoiding eye contact with Grillby.
Ignoring every ounce of guilt from the amount of lies stacking up between him and Grillby, Sans comforted himself with the realization that he wasn't entirely lying.
He could feel his magic coming back very slowly.
"I see... oh I shouldn't have. It's a soft spot clearly, and i still invaded your privacy like that. I just am still worried." Grillby got up slowly.
"hey don't sweat it, it's fine."
"I guess I'm leaving now... If you need anything give me call. I'm here for you if you need anything."
Sans glared at Grillby as he started walking away.
His soul began beating intensely as he stopped Grillby.
"wait." He began.
"Hm?"
"can you, uh, stay? it'd be nice having you around this night after today. i feel safe around you... and uh, yeah... um..." Sans stuttered.
His face was burning up, this was so embarrassing to him and it was killing him.
He was scared of Grillby's answer.
What if he couldn't stay and he'd just made himself look clingy?
What if he feels incredibly uncomfortable because of him?
There was a knot at his throat he couldn't describe.
"Of course I can stay here with you!" Grillby finally answered, letting out a small giggle.
It was a giggle of multiple mixed emotions.
Happiness, excitement, nervousness, and so many other ones.
"do you wanna borrow some of my brother's pijamas? i'm pretty sure they'll fit you." Sans instantaneously began receiving Grillby.
"I can sleep without them. I don't want to bother your brother by taking his clothes without permission."
"come on grillbz. you know papyrus, he'd be more than happy to let you borrow stuff."
"Alright..."
Sans went upstairs.
He quietly entered his brother's room, slowly and cautiously closing the door behind him.
Sans walked towards Papyrus' racecar bed and gently sat on the edge of the bed.
"papyrus" He gently shook his brother awake.
Papyrus rubbed his eyes, waking up from his sleep and halfway sat up.
"BROTHER?" He asked still half asleep.
"grillby is staying in for the night, so could you let him use some of you clothes to be comfortable? i'd let him use mine, but you know, haha, they won't fit him."
"YEAH, AND SURE." Papyrus lied back on his bed, sticking out a foot from under his blankets and twisting and turning until finding a desirably comfy position.
"thanks bro" Sans chuckled, opening a drawer and taking out a white T-shirt and orange sweatpants.
Just as Sans was about to head out the room, Papyrus mumbled something.
"YOU DIDN'T READ ME A STORY, YOU BONEHEAD..."
"oh... sorry paps. i-i'll make it up to you tomorrow." he apologized at the realization, rubbing the back of his neck.
Papyrus was already asleep.
Still feeling guilty, Sans walked next to Papyrus and covered him entirely with a soft blanket.
"sleep well, little bro. i wish i could be a better older brother, you deserve it. love you." he whispered tenderly as he landed a small skeletal kiss on his brother's forehead.
Sans teleported out of the room and closed the door behind him.
Once out the door, Sans felt out of breath.
It wasn't a good idea to use his low reserves of magic in this state.
He'd barely regenerated a small fraction of his magic and he was already wasting it.
"sorry i took long, grillbz. i brought you the clothes. i'm pretty sure they'll fit you." Sans said, going down the stairs as he shook of the dizzy feeling I'm his head.
"It's okay, and thanks." He smiled, taking the clothes from Sans.
"no problem. don't hold back in asking for anything, make yourself at home. there's a restroom is right over there." He pointed at a door in the small hallway heading to the kitchen.
Grillby nodded and went to go change.
As soon as he got out, Sans handed him a bag to put his other clothes in.
Grillby took a seat on the couch, putting his bag to his side.
The two looked at each other, both beginning to blush.
Grillby accommodated himself on the couch, but before he even laid down, Sans stopped him.
"you are totally not gonna sleep on the couch." He said firmly.
"Where.... Do I sleep then?"
"well... you can sleep in my room." Sans nervously answered, his face turning a darker shade of blue.
"O-okay" Grillby murmured as he stood up, tightly holding his bag against his chest.
The two went to Sans' room, Grillby following right behind.
While Sans laid down on his bed and stared at the ceiling, Grillby remained seated at the edge of the bed.
"Where do I sleep? I'm okay with sleeping on the floor" Grillby repeated.
"definitely not. you can have my bed. i'll be the one to sleep on the couch" Sans quickly affirmed.
"No, Sans, this is your bed. We can both... um... We can share the bed? I mean, we've done it already so uh... It would not be something very new...?" Grillby suggested.
There was a dead awkward silence filling the room.
"o-okay." Sans choked out.
Grillby crawled to bed and laid down as far away as he could from Sans.
This was his second time sleeping with Sans, but he couldn't help but to blush.
Unlike last time, this happened intentionally.
"Oh God..." Grillby murmured under his breath.

Sans gasped for air with fear.
He felt the dirty hands of Christopher grab him with a hurtful grip.
"I will kill everyone you love" He whispered with a psychotic voice that would haunt him for the night.
Sans abruptly jolted awake.
He took deep, shaky breaths.
Grillby turned on the light.
"Oh Sans... Another nightmare..." Grillby realized, hugging Sans gently for comfort.
"sorry I've been causing a lot of trouble. i never wanted to be a pain in the ass, grillbz." Sans held onto Grillby.
"You'll never be a trouble for me, Sans. I'm here for you, till the end of time." He assured.
Sans blushed a little and wiped his sweat off his forehead.
"thanks, grillby. you're always there for me."
The two sat there in silence, staring at each other's eyes, in a loving way.
Grillby looked away, and opened his mouth.
Now it is not the right moment. What are you doing!? You idiot!!, his mind screamed at him.
"Sans, I know it's not the right time to tell you this but, I can't keep hiding this any longer. It's ok if you don't feel the same way, I get it, 'we're best friends'. I just feel the necessity to say what my soul is telling me to." Grillby started, a light blush spreading across his face.
Sans sat up, and gave all of his attention to Grillby.
Was this the moment where the truth would be revealed?
"Every time I see you, I feel my soul going crazy about to explode. This has been going on for the last couple of years, but I haven't really done anything about it and I'm tired of that. You and I have been getting... closer, since the barrier was taken down. I care about you so much, and being with you makes me feel extremely happy. I can say, I might even love you." He confessed.
Quiet and tension filled the atmosphere of the room.
Grillby had already began regreting his action.
Had he made a mistake?
Did he rush in into this relationship between his friend?
"grillby..." Sans mumbled, face still at a shocked expression.
Grillby felt like crying, he was already preparing for rejection.
His flames lowered; they weren't as bright and lively as they used to be.
"Like I said, Sans, it's okay if you don't-"
"-i love you too"
