Chapter 3
~AYAME's POV~
Opening my eyes, I take in the sunlight from the windows. Stretching my arms, I enjoy the view from Edward's bedroom in the main house.
You may be wondering; why am I not waking up in my own cabin bed? Well the answer is simple, every now and then I stay the night with my family because I can. They love it when I stay with them in the same house, they have never complained and I doubt they would now.
Ping!
Picking up my phone, I see a text from my best friend girlfriends that are outside the family. Lissa and Rose. I'm still learning about what kind of vampire's they are since they're not Cold One's like my family and I, but they don't mind telling me. It just takes a bit since my anxiety makes learning a bit slower for me.
Morning girl! We miss you, so much! We want to visit and see that gorgeous ring in person instead of a text, but we are sadly in Pennsylvania. We'll try to visit sometime, but we won't make a promise we don't intend on keeping, that is just rude or bad timing. Good luck with school, only two weeks left, huh? Wish we could see you off but your siblings will do that for us. Eat plenty and tell the family 'hi' for us.
Love you!
~ L & R
Smiling, I begin to text them back.
Out of nowhere, I start to cough. When I stopped coughing, I stand up feeling dizzy. I manage to get myself downstairs to see Mom and Dad in the living room.
"Daddy." I call out. He turns my way and looks at me concerned. Before I could say anything else, I couldn't feel my legs. About to fall and hit the floor, I feel myself getting caught.
Opening my eyes, Dad had his arms around me. Lifting me up and setting me on the island, he cups my cheeks.
"Sweetie, what happened?" He asks.
"I woke up not feeling well." I answer groggy.
"You're very warm. Wait here, I'll get a thermometer." He replies, speeding off.
Mom sped over and rubs me arms.
"What exactly happened when you woke up?" Mom asks.
"I got a text from Lissa and Rose. As I was about to text back, I coughed then felt dizzy. I could barely stand after coming downstairs to you guys. I feel like crap, mom." I answer, nearly sobbing at the end.
Let me just say this, every time I get sick, if I do I hate it. My insides stir like crazy making me feel like crap. My head will spin like my brain isn't connected to my spine. And don't even get me started on my senses.
"Here. Put it under your tongue." Daddy returns as stick the thermometer in my mouth.
A minute or two in, the door opens. Footsteps come closer to us as my siblings and fiancé enter the living room, and gasp slightly when they see me.
"What happened?"
"Is she ok?"
"Why does she look paler than normal?"
"Everyone calm down. We think she's got the flu, again." Daddy stops them.
"You think? You're the doctor, Carlisle it's your job to know." Rosie scolds him. She can really be protective, and I don't complain or blame her. She raised me as a sibling and a daughter.
"She just woke up less than five minutes ago, we have no idea if she's sick or not." Daddy starts.
"She's complained of symptoms similar to last time. Dizziness, upset insides, weak muscles. Not to mention her body feels more hot than last time." Mom finishes.
"Baby, I'm sorry you're not feeling well." Edward says speeding over to me as he cups my cheeks. When I felt his coolness, I held his hands in mine keeping them in place. I close my eyes as it felt good.
"Time's up." Dady said taking the thermometer out and looks at it.
"I'm sorry, sweetie. 101.5. Definite fever. I'll need to do a swab if it's flu for sure. But for now, you rest. We'll take care of you." Daddy states, sad. He hates it when this happens. Since I'm half human, I can get sick easily. Which does suck.
"Just like last time?" I ask, my voice hoarse.
"Of course." Daddy answers with a soft smile.
"Would you like a bath to warm you up?" Mom asks. I nod.
Holding my arms out, Edward smiles as he wraps his arms around me pulling me closer. I cling to him like a koala bear as he carries me up to his bedroom. Gently placing me down, I sadly let him go as I could barely keep my eyes open.
"We'll start your bath, okay honey?" Mom asks.
"Thank you, Momma." I answer, as she gave me a kiss on my forehead.
Rosie and Alice playfully kick Edward out as the others tease him while they help me strip. I manage to step in the bath and could feel the warmth of the bath water make me feel better. I cover myself, as Alice and Rosie add in some bath salts and a few bath bombs.
"Are those from 'Fragrant Jewels'?" I ask in a whisper. Alice smile as Rosie nods.
"Yay." I whisper/cheer.
"This is the 'Winter Solstice Collection'. Supposed to smell good plus the bath bombs make your body relax." Rosie says.
"Enjoy yourself. We have the jets on to keep it warm for awhile but we won't let you stay in for long, incase you get too warm." Alice replies.
I nod as they left. I uncover myself as I take in the relaxing fizzing of the bath bombs. They were right, they do smell good. Hopefully they came with rings like last time. I enjoy getting them because it calms my anxiety to watch the bath bombs fizz away and the candle melts.
Before I knew it, there was a knock at the door.
"Yes." I say.
"It's been 45 minutes, honey. Time to dry off." Mom says from behind the door.
"Okay, you can come in." I reply as I see that the bath bombs were gone and the water was a deep blue.
Mom comes in and drained the tub. Swiftly wrapping my body up before the cold air could hit me, she lifts me out of the tub and lets me dry off.
"How do you feel? Any better?" She asks.
"Yeah. I guess I was so focused on the smell, I lost track of time." I answer.
"Well, I'm glad you could relax. We sadly don't have anymore cough medicine so Carlisle went himself to get it. He'd send one of the boys, but didn't want them to get caught with any wondering eyes just yet." Mom says.
"Yeah. They're good at hunting, but not that good at hiding." I reply but stop when a cough hits me.
Rubbing my back helps calm down my coughs as Mom walks me out of the bedroom. Dropping the towel, Mom hands my a different oversized t-shirt and underwear.
Once I was done changing, I felt a breeze. Slowly turning around, Edward was laying on the bed ready to welcome me with open arms. Smiling happily, I carefully climb into bed and cuddle into his chest. Feeling him shift, I pull away to see him holding the capsules from the bath. I smile as we open them together. Two capsules: two rings. They were beautiful.
"Think you can stomach some food?" Mom asks.
"Not a chance." I answer sad, while rubbing my stomach.
"In a bit, I'll bring you some broth to drink." Mom says before leaving the room.
Snuggling deeper in Edward's chest, I take in his scent. He rubs my back which makes me cuddle into him more.
"I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Wish there was something I could do." He says.
"You're doing it right now. You're comforting me, snuggling with me, just feeling you touch me makes my skin spark. I do feel better.. with you here." I reply.
Feeling him smile, he gently pulls me closer but turns our bodies so that I was still laying on the bed rather than him.
A bit later, Mom softly knocks before entering with a mug full of warm chicken broth. I happily drink it slowly as Edward puts on the first Transformer movie.
"I can never get over this movie." I say thrilled.
"I know. This has to be what, the 150th time you've watched since it's release on DVD?" Edward jokes. I hit his chest.
"It's my favorite movie. I sadly feel sleepy. I might not watch it." I reply closing my eyes.
"That's good. Just close your eyes for now and listen to it. We can warm the rest of your broth later if you want it. Just try to rest." Edward says in my ear as he rubs my back soothing.
~EDWARD'S POV~
As my love's eyes fell shut, her breathing was slower than normal. But I knew she was asleep. When she started to shiver a bit, I adjusted the blanket to cover her more. Rosalie and Alice took Ayame shopping to Seattle and they came back with clothes and a blanket for her to use in our room in the house. It's a super fluffy one, and I have to agree with my mate, it sure is soft. But more importantly, warm.
Glancing at the door, Carlisle softly walks in and then sits on the other side of the bed near Ayame.
"How is she?" He asks.
"Just tired, hasn't felt nauseous at all. She's a little cold, but nothing too bad." I answer.
"I'll take the swab." He says while rubbing a cotton swab on the inside of her cheek, "I'm going to test it to see how sick she is."
"It doesn't seem as bad as last time." I comment.
"Let us hope. She needs to sleep for now. Within the next couple of hours she needs to drink some more broth and get something on her stomach." He says taking the swab and leaves. I nod, as I kept my eyes on Ayame.
My love, she dislikes getting sick. The first time was when we were still in Alaska. I think her body grew around age 10... she woke up with a cough and shocked everyone. Carlisle nearly scared her when he tried to put the thermometer under her tongue for the first time. Made us laugh, but we managed to calm her down. Thanks to Jasper. I felt so useless, unable to do anything since she had no idea of the mate bond between us. Thankfully she wanted cuddles and that seemed to help, especially the both of us.
As an hour and half passed, I gently shook Ayame awake. Her eyes stirred as she rubs the sleep away.
"How long have I been asleep?" She asks, still sleepy.
"Near two hours. Are you hungry?" I ask.
"A little. I'll take some broth, please." She answers, polite.
I smile as I used my speed to get the broth back from downstairs. Sitting back on the bed, I hold it for her as she drank through the straw.
"How do you feel now?" I ask.
"A bit better. Thank you." She answers as I put the mug down and pull her closer.
"I can feel your fever has gone down. You're almost a hundred." I inform.
"That's good. Thank you for being here." She replies.
"Where else would I be." I joke softly as she smiles into my chest.
She moves her body so she could watch the movie. It was around the scene where 'Sam' and his crush were getting introduced to the Autobots. Ayame loves the CGI that this movie uses for the robots. Staying in this loop that Emmett and Jasper helped me find, there's a rumor about the next movie coming within the next few years. Keeping in touch, Alice also mentioned that she saw us cuddling in a theater seat. With a few more surprises with it, but she told me to wait.
When Alice tells us a surprise is coming, we always end up excited. But there are times when it makes us nervous, especially when the Volturi tries to call Carlisle. Just like the rest of us, he is worried about how they will react to Ayame, so he regrets not going and visiting. Considering Aro would take his hand to see his thoughts and memories, that would expose Ayame. We have to keep her a secret. I won't let anything happen to her.
Even though I've only waited a century for her, I feel like I've waited a thousand years.
