Terrors of the Day

"Are you sure that you're ready for this?" Batman asked Dick as they both prepared to leave to go patrolling at night.

"One hundred percent." Robin replied with a large grin. Honestly, he was nervous about going out on patrol, but he was also excited. For most of Robins life, he had been told to be kind, do good things, and then when he left with the Court of Owls, they seemed to go against all of that, but now he would actually save people's lives and do the world good.

"Then let's get going." Batman said as they both hopped into the Batmobile.

Usually, Batman might have not let Robin go out on patrol this early, but after seeing Robins skills, he was convinced. Robin wouldn't say he was the best at fighting, but he definitely knew what he was doing.

"So, any where in particular that we might be going." Robin questioned as the Batmobile exited the cave.

"Yes, I'm following up a lead." Robin nodded as he listened," I have reason to believe that Scarecrow has broken out of Arkham and is now attempting to poison most of Gotham with his new fear toxins."

"Scarecrow?" Robin questioned once more.

Bruce let out a small sigh,"I didn't catch you up on Gothams most known criminals...," The vehicle stopped,"Maybe we shouldn't do this."

"What?" Dick blurted out," I'll be fine. Just catch me up when you can, but you told me I could go with you today. So, I'm not going to leave."

Batman narrowed his eyes,"You could get hurt."

"Wouldn't be the first time."

There was a moment of silence before Batman gave in,"Fine, but you need to be careful."

Dick gave a quick nod

"Scarecrows real name is Jonathan Crane. He known for using a variety of fear-enhancing drugs, toxins, and psychological warfare tactics to exploit the fears and phobias of his adversaries. He can be easily identified by a rugged scarecrow mask that is always over his face."

"He exploits your fears? So, someone who is hit with one of these toxins might end up having a panic attack?" Robin said as if it was nothing.

"And these often lead to death if not treated immediately."

"Oh..." Robins eyes widened at that. He had heard of toxins that caused people to witness their worst fear, but he had never seen the toxins lead the victim to their death.

Robin didn't say anything else as he thought of Scarecrow. What kind of maniac forced people to witness their worst fear right before they died? To be honest, the thought of a man that crazy led chills to Robins spine.

---

Robin crouched at a large glass pane window with Batman at his side as he watched Scarecrow order around his goons.

"We need this whole truck to be delivered by tomorrow!" The masked man yelled,"Why is that so hard to understand?!"

A man with a clipboard in his hands nodded. He had shaggy brown hair and a slight stubble of hair on his chin. He was obviously terrified of Scarecrow and refused to defy his orders,"Yes, sir. I am sorry, I will get that done right away."

He then gestured to the man next to him, who was tall and lean. He was cleanly shaven, and shortly trimmed charcoal black hair. This man didn't seem too bothered by Scarecrows behavior.

That man walked into the back of the small delivery truck, while "shaggy hair" hopped into the drivers seat. The trucks lights then lit up dimly, and with the roar of the engine, it took off.

"You follow the truck, I'll get Scarecrow." Batmans low voice spoke. Robin nodded as he swiftly and stealthily made his way to the truck.

To be honest, Robin would have preferred to fight Scarecrow, because well, how was a thirteen year old boy supposed to catch up to a speeding truck without any mode of transportation but his own two feet. Fortunately, the truck didn't get much of a head start, and the driver didn't seem to notice as he jumped onto the back. He was barley hanging on, his hands gripping the small door handles and his feet barely resting on a small ledge on the back.

Dick instantly yanked open back door, but regretted it as he remembered about the man who had decided to sit there.

BAM!

Bullets immediately whizzed passed his head, but to his luck, they all missed him.

The car then began to swerve as the driver realized that someone was attempting to stop the delivery.

"Damn it." Robin muttered as he lost his grip on the door and threw himself within the back of the truck.

"Who do you think ya' are?" The man spoke with a heavy accent.

Robin ran towards the man, but was pushed to the left as the truck swerved once again. Though not only did Robin fall, but so did the goon. Robin saw this as an opening, so he slid up to the man and snatched the gun away from him.

"Don't move." Robin pointed the large weapon towards the mans face.

"I dare you to pull that trigger." The man now wore a cruel smile as his eyes stared into Robins masked ones. He stared at the man for a second. If he pulled the trigger, his Uncle would be proud of him. He would be praised among the Court. He would actually be a Talon...

"Sorry, but..." Robin swung the heavy weapon onto the mans head, knocking him unconscious,"I don't kill." He didn't care what his Uncle thought.

Then, just to ruin the moment, the truck swerved once again.

Seriously?

Robin darted towards the open back doors, and with the help of his grappling hook, he flipped onto the top of the vehicle. He crept his way towards the drivers seat and pulled the door wide open.

The man had no time to yell as Robin gripped him by his dark cotton t-shirt and pulled him out onto the wet grass.

With the vehicle now empty, Robin jumped into the drivers seat and slammed on the breaks.

"I took care of Scarecrow. How are you doing on your part?" Batmans gruff voice spoke through Robins earpiece.

"I stopped the vehicle, I'll be there in a few." Now he had to figure out how to drive the truck back.... It couldn't be that hard, right?

---

So, it was that hard. A lot harder than he had once thought, but then again, he had never had any driving lessons, so he was excused.

Though those thoughts left Robins mind a he saw Scarecrow tied up by a thick rope.

"I'll get out again! I'll beat you one day Batman, even if it isn't this day." The villain made empty threats. Though he stopped as he noticed Robin approaching.

"Who is this little guy? Is he the one the media is obsessing over?"His mood seemed to lighten up,"Well, if I can't have Batman, at least I can hurt his partner?"

Batman rose an eyebrow,"What are you taking about?" The Dark Knight then whipped around to see to his protege. His eyes widened instantly,"Robin, watch out!"

Robin didn't have time to process his words as a syringe full of Scarecrows new fear toxin was injected into his arm.

Robin quickly elbowed the guy. He was the man who had been previously driving the truck. Robin hadn't checked to see if he was unconscious or bound by rope.

A mistake on his part.

"Robin!" Batman took no time to reach the Boy Wonder, but he stopped to punch the goon who was then rendered unconscious.

"I'm fi-" Robin was about to say, but then he felt a wave of fear pass his body. Cold chills  ran up and down his spine. His hair stood on its ends, and the darkness and shadows began closing around him.

Robin had never been claustrophobic, but the dark shadows around him made him want to hyperventilate. They made him want to curl up and cry.

"HAHAHAHA!" Scarecrows manic laugh filled the room, sending more fear to Robin. His loud cackles abruptly stopped for a reason Robin didn't want to dwell on.

"Dick, I need you to stay awake. Can you do that for me?" The reassuring voice of Bruce could be heard, but for some reason it brought him no comfort. It only send chills down his back and caused his heart to race.

Robin wanted to say yes to Bruce's question, but he was just beginning to realize that the darkness closing around him was actually his eyes closing.

Robin wanted to reply with something to let Bruce know that he was okay, but couldn't as his eyes closed sending him awful nightmares.

Dick stood in a dark room. There was no one- well, no one he could see. It was just him and the pitch black room. The cold air sent chills up his spine and racked his nerves. Where was he?

Suddenly, a light shone on him, and his own appearance startled him. He wore the horrendous Talon outfit that his Uncle had made specifically for him. It was covered in blood, but it wasn't his own.

The crimson blood stains made him want to cower away. Where did all this blood come from?

The question was immediately answered as he examined the knife he wielded in his palm. It too was drenched in blood that was not of his own.

Robin began to shake. He killed someone... But he didn't remember doing that. Wouldn't someone at least remember an event like that...?

Then more lights turned on, and before him was his new friends and family.

Bruce was the first one he noticed. He was dead. Beyond saving, but he had been killed so viciously that someone without a heart had to have done that. His eyes had small x's over them that seemed to have been made by a thin blade. His throat had been slit, and his stomach- God, his insides seemed to be everywhere but within his own body.

Next, he noticed Wally. The way he had been killed was much worse. It made Dick want to run far away and never return.

Then a thought passed Dicks mind...The killer might still be in the room.

He then noticed his team members and even Superman, who he had just met.

Who did this?

Lastly, he saw Alfred. Dick was overjoyed when he realized that the older man was still breathing.

"Alfred!" The man took one look at him and backed away. He appeared to be hurt badly, so he was unable to get up, but Dick was unsure why Alfred was backing away from him.

"What's wrong?" Dicks voice cracked.

"You. You did this to all of them. We should have never trusted you. All you were was just a weight carrying us down. Everyone was happy before you came along. Why did you have to come into our lives? Why did you have to ruin everything? None of this would have happened if you had just stayed with the Court. If the Talon had just killed you that night, we all would be happy and alive."Alfred spoke, but it sounded nothing of his voice. The voice was harsh, cruel, but also full of pain. Though that wasn't Alfred's voice... Alfred's voice was always caring and loving. Not resentful and full of hatred.

Dick then looked down at the knife he held is him bloodied hand. This was his fault. He killed everyone who had helped him. He was the killer...

"I'm so proud of you." A new voice spoke. It was his Uncle. He put a hand on Dicks shoulder,"You now are a real Talon. I knew you could do it."

"No, no, no!" Dick backed up. This couldn't be happening. He would never... Would he? Here in front of him was proof that he could, but he didn't remember that. He didn't remember any of it.

"I'm so proud." His Uncle voice echoed off the walls of the room, repeating over and over and over again.

"Stop it! Make it stop!" Dick dropped the blade to clamp his hands over his ears to prevent himself from hearing his Uncles words,"I didn't do this! I couldn't have!"

"Oh, but you did,"His Uncle smiled maliciously,"And that's exactly why I'm so proud."

"No! No!" Dick shouted,"They can't be dead! T-this- it's not right." He felt tears stream from his eyes as he began to accept that they were all gone.

"But they are, and it's all your fault..."

Dick collapsed to his knees as tears poured from his, now red, eyes.

"Dick!" Dick turned his head to see Bruce. He was calling out to him.

Bruce was still alive? How?!

"I need you to wake up!" Bruce pleaded, but Dick found it hard to look at him due to the gruesome injuries covering his body.

"What? What do you mean?"

Then suddenly Dick was no longer in that horrifying place with his Uncle and dead friends, but in the Bat Cave with Bruce and Alfred.

"Dick, are you okay?" Bruce asked as he placed a hand on his shoulder. Dick immediately recoiled as he remembered how his Uncle did that in his dream.

"Sorry, but, y-yeah... I'm fine." He replied as he noticed the frantic looks on their faces.

"Master Dick, perhaps you should rest."

"I'm fine,"He said with more force before he noticed the worried looks they wore,"but, I'll go rest for a while." He slowly got up and began to walk towards the entrance of the Manor.

"Wait." Bruce stopped him.

Dick stopped, but he didn't turn his head.

"If you're up for it, I have a mission for the team tomorrow."

Dick just nodded as he continued to walk off.

He tried not to think about what happened in his dream, but he couldn't get it out of his mind. Could something like that really happen? Would he kill all his friends someday? We're all their lives at risk from him?

There ya go! I whole chapter. 2461 words and all! I know... It's great.

Just kidding! It really isn't. Well, the writing isn't... But the number is wonderful!

But you guys did deserve a chapter. I did force y'all to wait for quite a while. So, here it is.

Ugh, I've recently been reading fanfics similar to mine, and Robins personality in others peoples Fic's are making me confused about Robins personality in my books.... Hopefully I'll get over that soon... If not, I'm sure you will notice it in later chapters...
